Check your PlayStation account’s country/region before buying. PlayStation says you can’t change it after creating the account. Your account region also determines which Store you use, while disc-game DLC and voucher codes have their own region-matching requirements. Payment methods and catalog availability vary by country or region.

How to check your PlayStation account region

On the web, sign in to Account Management, select Your Information, then edit Residential Address. The country/region appears at the bottom. In the PlayStation App, open Account Information and then Residential Address.

PlayStation Support states, “You can’t change your account’s country/region after your account has been created.” If you move or discover the account is registered to the wrong region, the existing account’s region cannot simply be edited. Check the regional options and guidance available from PlayStation for your situation before making purchases or adding funds. PlayStation’s account country/region guidance.

Why account region matters for game purchases

The PlayStation Store is regional: PlayStation says, “Content and services available on PlayStation Store vary by country/region.” A game, add-on, service, or price shown in one country’s Store may not be available or priced the same in another. Check the Store for the account that will make the purchase rather than relying on a listing for a different region.

PlayStation’s US terms describe Store transactions as being with the regional SIE company determined by the account’s registered country or area of residence. The terms also say confirmed purchases are accessible through the account used to order them, subject to applicable usage terms. They warn that closing an account may lead to loss of access. These are US terms; do not assume identical legal terms in every country. PlayStation Network Terms of Service (US) and US digital-content terms.

Does DLC work with a disc from another region?

For a game on disc, PlayStation says an add-on cannot be used if the add-on’s country/region does not match the country/region of the disc game. The key comparison is the disc game’s licensed region and the add-on’s region—not simply where you bought the console or where you currently live. PlayStation’s cited guidance specifically addresses disc games; it should not be treated as a universal rule for all digital games.

Before buying a disc-game add-on

Check the game box’s small print for its licensed country/region. If it is unclear, ask the retailer to confirm the disc’s license region.
Check that the add-on is available in the PlayStation Store for the account you plan to use.
Compare the add-on’s region with the disc game’s licensed region. If they do not match, do not assume the add-on will work with that disc.

Can you use a PlayStation voucher or gift card from another country?

PlayStation says voucher codes and the account’s country/region must match for successful activation. A physical voucher may show its country/region with a printed flag. Check the code’s region before buying or redeeming it; a code intended for another region may not activate on your account.

For US accounts, PlayStation’s terms specify that wallet prepaid cards must have a currency value from the same country designated for the account. That is US-specific guidance, not a complete global list of voucher rules. Check the terms and voucher details for your own region. Account and voucher region guidance; US PlayStation Network terms.

Why might a payment card not work on your Store region?

Payment acceptance depends on the country or region. PlayStation says a card registered in a different country from the Store region may not link. Available payment methods also differ by market, so a payment method accepted in one country is not necessarily available in another.

Check the payment methods PlayStation lists for your local Store.
If your card is registered in another country and will not link, try another locally accepted payment method.
A region-matched PlayStation Store wallet top-up code may be an alternative, provided its region matches your account.

PlayStation’s card troubleshooting page suggests trying another available payment method or a wallet top-up code when a card from a different country cannot be linked. Its accepted-method list is market-specific. PlayStation card troubleshooting (US); PlayStation accepted payment methods (US).

How PlayStation wallet funds work

Adult accounts have a wallet. Eligible payment methods or gift cards can be used to add funds, which are then used for Store purchases. PlayStation’s wallet guidance says wallet funds are applied first; if the balance does not cover the full purchase, another payment method can cover the remainder.

PlayStation’s UAE wallet guidance says added funds cannot be refunded.
