In Ontario, online casino safeguards are organized through provincial regulation: operators must be registered with the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) and have an operating agreement with iGaming Ontario. That description applies to Ontario, not all of Canada. The rules, legal sites and age limits elsewhere must be checked with the regulator for the player’s own province or territory.
Who regulates online casinos in Ontario?
The Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) is the provincial regulator. It registers operators and suppliers, sets standards and monitors compliance. iGaming Ontario commercially manages online gaming offered through private operators. Before a private operator can offer games in Ontario, it needs successful AGCO registration and an operating agreement with iGaming Ontario. iGaming Ontario explains the operator framework and safeguards.
OLG.ca is a separate government-operated offering; it is not managed by iGaming Ontario. This distinction matters when checking which framework applies to a particular service.
How to check whether a casino site is regulated in Ontario
- Open iGaming Ontario’s official operator directory.
- Find the operator or gaming website you are considering and confirm it appears in the directory. Do not rely on a site’s own claim of being regulated as a substitute for checking the official listing.
- Check the directory again when you are ready to use the site: listings and market details can change.
The directory was marked accurate as of September 1, 2026, and listed 49 operators and 84 gaming websites. Those are Ontario directory figures for that date, not a permanent count or a Canada-wide total. The same player information says users must be at least 19 and physically located in Ontario to play. These eligibility rules are Ontario-specific.
What safeguards does the Ontario framework describe?
Regulation gives players ways to verify an operator and establishes standards for the market, but “safe” does not mean risk-free. iGaming Ontario says operators must obtain and maintain RG Check accreditation. Its current FAQ also describes BetGuard, a centralized way to opt out of regulated online gambling in Ontario, alongside self-exclusion programs that operators must maintain. See iGaming Ontario’s current operator FAQ.
These measures are safeguards, not guarantees that a player will avoid losses or gambling-related harm, nor proof that gambling is suitable for a particular person. If you want to stop or take a break, look into BetGuard or an operator’s self-exclusion program and consult responsible-gambling support appropriate to your location.

What entertainment is available?
Ontario’s regulated offerings include casino games, poker, sports betting and novelty betting. The official information establishes these broad categories, but does not support claims about a particular site’s game library, individual game odds, bonuses, payment options or withdrawal speed. Check an operator’s current terms and product information directly rather than assuming all listed sites offer the same experience.

The agency notes that player accounts are not unique people: one person may have accounts with multiple operators. These market totals describe activity, not an individual player’s likely outcome.

Can you play from anywhere in Canada?
The Ontario rules and directory do not establish which sites are legal, what age limits apply or which safeguards operate in other provinces and territories. Before registering or depositing, check the official regulator or government information for the jurisdiction where you are physically located. Do not assume an Ontario listing makes a site eligible everywhere in Canada.
