To estimate how old your Sony BRAVIA TV is, first find its exact model name and serial number. Use the model to check when that model was introduced; that can indicate its generation, but it does not establish when your individual TV was manufactured. Sony’s published guidance does not document a universal method for decoding a BRAVIA manufacture date from its serial number. If you need the exact date, ask Sony Support to check the specific set.
Find your BRAVIA model name and serial number
Record both identifiers exactly as shown. Sony notes that the model and serial numbers are different, so one cannot be substituted for the other. You can find them in a few places:
- Rear label: Check the product sticker on the back of the TV. Sony says it is usually near the lower-right rear corner or at the bottom center.
- Original packaging or manual: Check the box label or the user manual included with the TV.
- TV system information: If you cannot reach or read the label, look for the identifiers in the TV’s settings or help screens. Sony’s instructions list several possible paths, and the exact labels vary by model and software.
Sony Support’s instructions for finding a TV’s model name, serial number, or software version include pictures and menu routes. If the TV is wall-mounted, Sony suggests using a small hand or inspection mirror to view the rear sticker, then taking a phone photo. You can flip the image horizontally if that makes the label easier to read.

Try the route that matches your TV. Names and screens may differ by model:

- Android TV or Google TV: Possible paths include Help and Feedback → Help → Status & Diagnostics → System information; Apps → Help → System information; Help → System information; or BRAVIA Settings → Customer Support → Contact & Support.
- Non-Android/Google TV, 2015 and later: HOME → Settings → System Settings or Product Support → Customer Support or System Information → Product Information.
- Non-Android/Google TV, 2014: HOME → Help → Customer Support → System Information.
- Non-Android/Google TV, 2013 or earlier: HOME → Settings → Product Support or Set-up → System Information or Product Information.
These year ranges are menu-navigation guidance, not a way to determine the age of your particular set. For model-specific instructions, use Sony’s guide to finding a model and serial number.
What each clue tells you about the TV’s age

Start with Sony’s support or product information for the exact model. Treat a release year as the model’s period, not proof of when your set left the factory. If the manufacture date matters, give Sony Support the model name and serial number and ask about that specific TV. Sony’s support guidance is U.S.-focused; model suffixes, menus, and support information may differ by region.

Don’t use Sony’s serial-number checker as an age lookup
Sony’s Serial Number Checker is described as a software-update eligibility checker, not a tool for finding a TV’s manufacture date. A result from that page should not be treated as the set’s age.

Estimate age without confusing release and manufacture dates
- Write down the model and serial number. Check the rear label, packaging, manual, or system information.
- Look up the exact model. Use Sony’s model-specific support or product information to identify its generation or release period, where available.
- Check a receipt if you have one. It may establish when that particular TV was bought, but not when it was made.
- Ask Sony about the individual set if an exact manufacture date is important. Provide both identifiers and avoid relying on an unofficial serial-number formula unless Sony confirms it applies to your model and market.
The model generation, purchase date, and manufacture date answer different questions. Keep those distinctions in mind when judging how long the TV has been in use or looking for model-specific support.
