Snapchat does not display an account’s age on your profile, but you can find the exact creation date through Snapchat’s own account-data export. Request Login History and Account Information from My Data, then open the ZIP file that Snapchat prepares for you. The profile birthday is a different thing, and it is the most common reason people read the wrong date.
How to find your account creation date
The process runs entirely inside your own signed-in account, so it works only for accounts you can log into. You can start it on the web or in the app.
- Sign in at accounts.snapchat.com, or open the Snapchat app and go to Settings, then select My Data under Account Actions.
- In My Data, choose Login History and Account Information from the data categories.
- Pick a date range, or turn off the range limit to request all available data. Larger downloads and longer ranges take more time to prepare.
- Submit the request and confirm it through the notification email. Snapchat says it will email a link when the export is ready. Recent exports can also be viewed in the portal.
- Download the file, extract the ZIP, and open the account-information files to locate the creation date. If the download is awkward on a phone, use a computer.
Why the birthday on your profile is not the answer
The signup flow asks for a birthday, which records the age you entered, not the day the account was made. Snapchat’s support material lists the account creation date separately, as part of the downloadable account information. If you are comparing a birthday with an export, the export date is the one that answers the question “how old is my account?”

Treat the export as the authoritative record, with three limits that Snapchat itself describes:

- Retention varies by data type. Snapchat says it keeps different kinds of data for different periods, so the export may not contain every item collected since the account was created.
- Your selections shape the file. The date range and data categories you choose determine what is included. If the creation date does not appear, rerun the request with the range limit turned off.
- Timing is a goal, not a guarantee. Snapchat states that it aims to deliver exports within seven days, and larger requests can take longer.
Be cautious with third-party sites that claim to reveal how old a Snapchat account is. Snapchat documents its own export as the route to this information, and it is the one to rely on.
If you cannot find the export
- No email link: check your spam or promotions folder for the notification message, then look for the request in the portal’s list of recent exports.
- ZIP will not open on your phone: download it to a computer and extract it there.
- Creation date missing from the files: submit a new request with the date range turned off and compare the results.
How Snapchat has changed since it launched
Knowing the creation date is more useful when you can place it against the product’s history. Snap Inc.’s 2017 SEC-filed registration statement records the milestones below, and Snap’s own product history confirms the Stories and Memories dates.

From a photo app to a launch-era product
The registration statement describes the original service in plain terms. In its words, “When we launched Snapchat in September 2011, it was one of the fastest ways to send a photo on a smartphone.” That is a statement by Snap Inc. in its filing, not by an individual executive. The company’s own history also ties the app to its earlier name, Picaboo, so accounts created in the earliest period may reflect that origin.

Stories and the shift to shared daily posts
Stories changed the service from one-to-one messaging into a way to share a sequence of moments with a wider audience. Snap’s product history describes it as a move into shared daily storytelling, and it is the feature many users associate with the app’s identity from the mid-2010s onward.

Memories and the name change
Memories gave users a personal archive for Snaps they wanted to keep. Later the same year, Snap announced that the company would drop the Snapchat Inc. name in favor of Snap Inc., reflecting products that extended beyond the Snapchat app. An account created before 2016 therefore sits in a period when the product and the company were both branded differently.
Snap’s chronology also lists later additions such as Discover and Lenses, which you can compare with your account’s creation date when you review your export.
