Nick Pino’s basement gaming room grew out of a disrupted home-cinema plan: after flooding affected the space, he renovated it in 2026 with future water damage in mind and made it a place to play Xbox Series X and PS5 games, relax, and spend time with family and friends. His account names a Samsung S95H OLED, but it does not establish the installed screen’s size.
From an interrupted cinema plan to a shared gaming room
In a Tom’s Guide article published September 27, 2026, Managing Editor, TV and AV Nick Pino describes turning a partially finished basement into a multipurpose recreation space. He bought the home in 2022; after two years of above-average snowfall and basement flooding, water damage disrupted his earlier plan for a home cinema.
Pino says the 2026 renovation addressed future water damage, but he does not describe the work, name a contractor, give a budget, or report measured flood-prevention results. The account therefore offers a personal renovation story, not a guide to waterproofing or a guarantee that a particular fix will prevent flooding.
What the room is for now
The room’s current role is broader than a dedicated theater: it is a comfortable place to unwind, play Xbox Series X and PS5 games, and spend time with friends and family. Pino writes, “This is now my favorite room in the house.”

That use helps explain the range of items associated with the room in the article: lighting, a sofa, rug, TV stand, coffee table, soundbar, consoles, games, and a Star Wars-themed pinball machine. The shopping links identify product listings, but they do not prove that Pino installed every exact listed item or variant.
The display is a Samsung S95H OLED, but its size is unclear
Pino identifies the display as a Samsung S95H OLED. The headline calls it a 65-inch OLED, while the linked product card is labeled “Samsung 77-Inch Class S95h OLED 4K TV.” The body does not give the size of the screen in the room, so the linked 77-inch product should not be treated as confirmation of the installed TV’s size.

The account also does not provide a display comparison, console performance measurements, or a tested equipment list. It is best read as a description of one person’s room and priorities, rather than a recommendation that the S95H—or any linked product—is the right choice for every gaming space.

Pino says he may eventually turn the room into a home-cinema space with an ultra-short-throw projector and tower speakers. Those are possible future additions, not equipment he describes as installed. For now, the story centers on a flexible gaming and hangout room rather than a completed dedicated cinema.

What this transformation does—and does not—show
The useful idea in Pino’s account is the shift in purpose: a basement that no longer fit the original cinema plan became a shared room for gaming and relaxing. The story does not establish how well the renovation would translate to another home, what construction approach is appropriate for a flood-prone basement, or the total cost. Those decisions depend on the space and its water issues, details the article does not supply.
