Choose Standard for ad-free shows and movies
If your main reason for upgrading is to watch shows and movies without ads, Standard is the relevant plan to compare first. It includes the same two-stream limit and Full HD resolution listed for Basic with Ads, plus downloads and ad-free shows and movies.

Consider Premium for more streams or higher-quality playback
Premium raises the simultaneous-stream limit to four and allows up to 100 downloads. It also lists 4K Ultra HD and Dolby Atmos where available; the plan information does not establish that every title supports those formats. Premium does not promise to remove ads from live events.
Does the ad-free plan still have ads during live sports?
Yes. Max says live events have ads regardless of plan. Standard and Premium remove ads from shows and movies, not from every kind of programming. Basic with Ads also carries ads before and during shows and movies; Max estimates about four minutes of ads per hour on that plan. Is the Disney+, Hulu, and Max bundle an alternative?
Max lists a no-ads Disney+, Hulu, and Max bundle at $29.99 per month in the United States. It includes Max Standard, Disney+ Premium, and Hulu without ads. Selected live and linear content may still contain ads, and applicable taxes are excluded. This is a comparison for people who want all three services, not a lower-priced Max-only plan. Is HBO Only the same as ad-free Max?
No. Max lists HBO Only at $16.99 per month, the same monthly price as Max Standard, but the narrower option provides HBO series and movies while Max includes broader programming. The cited help page does not list an annual HBO Only rate. Check Max’s HBO Only information if you are comparing that option.
