Amazon does not publish a typical monthly income for Associates. It publishes commission rates by product category, and those rates apply only to qualifying purchases. Your earnings depend on what readers buy, how much qualifying revenue they generate, and whether Amazon’s attribution and policy rules are met. The current Amazon.com US schedule ranges from 0% to 10%; that rate card alone cannot show which niche earns the most.

How Amazon affiliate earnings are calculated

For standard product commissions, the basic estimate is:

Estimated standard commission = qualifying revenue × the applicable category rate

For a basket containing products from multiple categories, calculate each category separately and add the amounts. For example, if a hypothetical qualifying purchase generated $100 in revenue in a category paying 4.5%, the standard commission calculation would be $4.50. This is an illustration of the arithmetic, not a typical result or an income forecast. The actual qualifying revenue and commission may differ under Amazon’s rules.

This calculation does not predict how much traffic a site will attract, how many visitors will click or buy, the value of their orders, or whether an order will later be disqualified or reversed. Amazon’s official rate schedule does not provide an average Associates income or a representative monthly earnings range, so there is no verified figure here to use as a benchmark.

Which Amazon affiliate niches pay the most?

By published category rate alone, the highest rates in the schedule are 10% for Luxury Beauty, Luxury Stores Beauty, and Amazon Explore. But a high rate does not establish that a niche will produce more total income. A niche’s earnings also depend on what its audience is likely to purchase, the qualifying revenue, the ability to attract readers and generate qualified clicks, and whether the content meets Amazon’s terms.

Use the rate card to compare the rate attached to products your audience actually buys—not as evidence that one niche converts better or earns more overall. Amazon’s schedule is not a niche-level earnings study. A lower-rate category could produce more commission in a particular case if it generates more qualifying revenue; the schedule itself cannot tell you whether it will.

  • Check the relevant product categories: A site may cover several categories, and different purchases can receive different rates.
  • Assess genuine audience demand: Consider realistic purchase intent and product prices, without treating either as a proven conversion forecast.
  • Evaluate your ability to reach buyers: A rate matters only if your content can attract an audience and earn qualified clicks.
  • Prioritize useful content: Recommendations should add value through commentary, analysis, or transformation rather than merely reproduce product information.
  • Account for eligibility and attribution: A click or order does not by itself ensure a commission; the purchase and promotional method must meet Amazon’s rules.

When a referral can qualify for commission

Amazon’s Associates agreement describes using properly tagged Special Links on a qualifying site. Its policies set a standard 24-hour session boundary, but that does not mean every purchase made within 24 hours automatically earns commission. Other events can end a session, and cart purchases and digital products have separate rules. The product and transaction must meet the applicable requirements.

Under the policy terms announced effective April 14, 2026, a qualifying product must also be shipped, streamed, or downloaded, and paid for within 180 days of purchase. Amazon’s current policies and Operating Agreement provide the governing details; check them for the rules that apply to your account and promotion.

Changes effective April 14, 2026

  • Paid or boosted ads: Purchases referred by paid or boosted ads linking to Amazon are disqualified, subject to limited exceptions in the terms.
  • Onsite commissions: The same-ASIN rule is narrower: onsite commission applies only to a direct qualifying purchase of the same ASIN variant as the linked product detail page.
  • Original content: Amazon defines original content as content that adds value through commentary, analysis, or transformation.

These changes can affect whether a referral qualifies, so review Amazon’s April 14, 2026 policy change notice as well as the live terms.

When Amazon pays commissions

Amazon says standard and special commissions are reported monthly and paid approximately 60 days after the end of the month in which they were earned. That payment timing is separate from the shopper’s attribution session: it is not an extension of the referral window.

Disclose Amazon affiliate links clearly

Amazon requires the site statement: “As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.” It also says link-level disclosure should be clear and conspicuous near the link or product review. Examples Amazon gives include “(paid link),” “#ad,” and “#CommissionsEarned.” Put disclosures where readers encounter the recommendation, and check any legal and platform requirements that also apply. See Amazon’s disclosure guidance.

Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon at the time of purchase will apply.
