Midwest Wheel’s documented AI work helps employees make better-informed sales decisions; the available accounts do not show AI diagnosing truck faults or autonomously choosing and ordering repairs. In 2021, an Infor system recommended related heavy-duty truck parts during order entry. In a separate workflow described in 2026, Proton’s Pronto AI helped field representatives prepare for customer conversations.
How the Infor parts recommender worked
When a customer ordered a part for a truck repair, sales staff often had to research other parts that might also be needed. If an associated item was missed, the customer could need a second trip or order. Midwest Wheel and Infor addressed that problem by embedding an artificial-intelligence and machine-learning recommendation engine in Infor CloudSuite Distribution’s sales-order entry screen. As an order was entered, the system generated ten related-part suggestions for the salesperson to consider. Infor’s November 2021 announcement describes the award-winning project.
The system was decision support, not an autonomous repair service: the published descriptions show a salesperson receiving suggestions and deciding what to offer. They do not establish that the software diagnosed a mechanical fault, selected a repair, or placed an order on its own.

What data informed suggestions
Constellation Research’s 2021 profile says the model used three years of historical customer order data stored in Infor’s data lake to predict products associated with a given part. Managers could also use an Opportunity Loss Report to compare recommendations with invoiced items and follow up on suggestions that did not result in a sale.

What results were reported—and what they mean
Infor reported up to a 30% reduction in sales-order processing time and said the AI application was operationalized in four weeks. These are figures reported by Infor about the Midwest Wheel deployment, not independently verified results or a guarantee for other distributors.
Constellation Research described a validation example in which the system recommended ten additional parts for a spring order and reported 100% accuracy for that example. That is a single ten-part validation, not a general accuracy rate across orders or a measure of diagnostic accuracy.
How the 2026 Proton workflow differs
Midwest Wheel’s later AI-assisted sales workflow is a separate product and use case. In an April 23, 2026 case study, Proton.ai says Midwest Wheel uses its distributor CRM and Pronto AI to provide field sales representatives with account summaries, changes in buying patterns, and product-stock suggestions. This supports account preparation and sales conversations; it is not a new name for the Infor parts recommender.

Both accounts describe information presented to employees. Neither cited case establishes that Midwest Wheel deployed an AI agent that independently diagnoses faults, decides on repairs, or completes transactions. Infor’s current platform page promotes enterprise AI tools enabled with AI agents and separately identifies Midwest Wheel’s recommendation-engine story; that vendor positioning does not show that Midwest Wheel adopted those newer agent capabilities. In April 2024, Infor said Coleman AI was renamed and simplified to Infor Artificial Intelligence (AI), with its functionality and services remaining in the InforOS ecosystem. Infor’s current AI page is the relevant reference for its present-day terminology.

An AI suggestion can help a parts salesperson remember items that customers with similar orders have bought alongside a repair part. It can reduce manual lookups and make it easier to discuss potentially related heavy-duty truck replacement parts. But a recommendation is not proof that a part fits a particular vehicle or is required for a particular repair. The available Midwest Wheel accounts do not identify specific part numbers, vehicle compatibility, or an AI fault-diagnosis capability; those decisions still require appropriate product and repair information.
