Meta’s AI support assistant can answer account questions and, on Facebook, handle some requests such as reporting impersonation, managing privacy settings and resetting a password. Availability varies by country, platform and support topic: Meta’s March 2026 update said login help was initially rolling out only for select cases in the United States and Canada. The assistant is a feature in Meta’s apps and Help Centers, not a product users need to buy.
What Meta announced—and when
Meta announced a centralized support hub for Facebook and Instagram on December 4, 2025, saying it was rolling out globally on the iOS and Android apps. At that time, the company described its AI support assistant as a test starting on Facebook globally. In a March 19, 2026 update, Meta described a broader assistant rollout in countries and territories where Meta AI was available, in the Facebook and Instagram apps for iOS and Android and in the services’ desktop Help Centers. Meta updated availability details on March 20, 2026. Meta’s December support-hub announcement and March rollout update distinguish the hub from the assistant rollout.
The assistant was described as rolling out in languages supported by Facebook and Instagram for support topics. That does not mean every assistant capability is available to every account or in every location. For help logging in, Meta said rollout had started with select cases in the United States and Canada, with expansion planned; it did not promise that all locked-out users in those countries could use the feature.
What the assistant can do
Meta says the assistant can answer questions about account issues, settings and app features. Its March announcement described a growing set of requests it could carry out directly within Facebook:

Meta said comparable actions on Instagram were planned for the future. The March announcement therefore does not establish that Instagram and Facebook have the same direct-action features now. Meta’s phrase for the goal was: “When you have an account issue, you need a solution — not just a suggestion.” That wording appears in Meta’s announcement, not as a statement attributed to a named executive.
What to expect from account recovery
For someone who cannot log in, the assistant may be one route to guidance or help, but access depends on rollout and the particular case. Meta’s December announcement also described improvements to account recovery: recognizing familiar devices and locations, improving SMS and email alerts, and offering an optional selfie-video verification route. Those measures are separate from a promise that the assistant can recover any account.

Meta reported that new account hacks on Facebook and Instagram globally decreased by more than 30% over the prior year, and that the relative success rate of hacked-account recovery in the United States and Canada increased by more than 30% in 2025. These are Meta-reported figures; the announcement does not provide enough methodological detail or an independent assessment to treat them as independently verified outcomes. Meta says people will remain involved in high-risk decisions such as account-disablement appeals and law-enforcement reports. That indicates Meta does not describe every such decision as fully automated. It is not a promise that users with routine account problems can always escalate to a human support agent.

Meta also says assistant responses typically arrive in under five seconds and that the service is available around the clock. These are descriptions from Meta, not independently measured guarantees. The company says most users who provided feedback reported a positive experience, but its announcement does not give a sample size or detailed methodology for that claim. Meta’s description of the service contains these qualifications.

AI-assisted support does not replace account security. Meta recommends Security Checkup and two-factor authentication (2FA), which adds a code from a phone or authenticator app to the password sign-in process. Meta also points users to passkeys on Facebook and Messenger. These are built-in account protections, not a reason to buy a particular device. A separate incident notice shows why recovery flows should not be treated as risk-free, but it should not be confused with the public-facing assistant. In a notification dated June 5, 2026, Meta disclosed a vulnerability in an AI-assisted Instagram recovery system called High Touch Support (HTS). Meta said it discovered the issue on May 31: a separate code path failed to verify that a submitted email matched the email associated with an account, potentially allowing a password-reset link to be sent to an unassociated address. Meta said it disabled the affected path and invalidated outstanding links. The notice listed 30 Maine users as a potential upper bound for impact, not as 30 confirmed compromised accounts. It does not establish that the general support assistant shared the vulnerability or that the issue remains active. The incident notification and its associated notice describe the report.
