Manipal Hospitals is building a connected care model rather than adopting one headline technology. Its stack combines MAI, a WhatsApp-based conversational assistant; telemedicine and remote monitoring; electronic medical records (EMR); cloud data, AI and machine learning; robotic surgery and advanced imaging; and research programs for digital therapeutics, medical devices and healthcare logistics.
Public descriptions show what the programs are designed to do, but they do not establish a single, independently audited measure of clinical impact. Availability and implementation can vary by hospital, specialty and geography.
How Manipal’s technology strategy fits together
Manipal’s approach has five connected layers:
- Patient access: MAI and telemedicine help people find information, appointments, specialists and follow-up care.
- Clinical precision: Robotic surgery, advanced imaging and AI-enabled diagnostics support diagnosis and treatment workflows.
- Operational integration: EMR, cloud data and paperless processes connect information across the hospital.
- Care beyond the hospital: Remote monitoring and digital consultations extend services to patients outside a campus.
- Innovation pipeline: The Centre for Digital Health and Technologies, the MIDAS Hub and the DRONE project explore technologies that may move from research into routine care.
This is best understood as an ecosystem: a patient interaction can begin in a digital channel, generate data for clinical teams, and feed a hospital’s records and decision-support systems.
MAI brings AI to patient access
What MAI is designed to do
Manipal describes MAI as a 24/7 conversational assistant available through WhatsApp. Its documented functions include symptom analysis, appointment assistance, explanations of medical reports and connection with an appropriate specialist.
#1 Best Overall
What that means for patients
MAI is an access and navigation tool, not a replacement for a clinician. It can help a patient decide where to start, understand a report in plainer language or reach the right department, while diagnosis and treatment decisions remain clinical responsibilities. Users should treat any symptom guidance as preliminary and seek urgent in-person care for emergencies.
Availability to verify
Public material does not establish that every Manipal facility, specialty or region offers the same MAI functions. Check the current Manipal channel and local hospital instructions before relying on a specific capability.
Google Cloud and the data foundation
What was announced
Google Cloud announced a collaboration with Manipal Hospitals in 2022 to use data, artificial intelligence and machine learning to improve patient experiences and outcomes. Google Cloud India Managing Director Bikram Singh Bedi described the goal as follows: “Data-driven innovation is growing exponentially in healthcare, and this collaboration will help Manipal Hospitals use data, AI, and machine learning to improve patient experiences and outcomes.”
Why cloud infrastructure matters
Cloud systems can provide a common foundation for storing, processing and analysing information from records, imaging, appointments and connected-care services. In a hospital network, that foundation can make it easier to deploy analytics or machine-learning tools across sites than isolated, department-by-department systems.
Rank #2
What has not been published
The announcement states an intended direction, not a quantified evaluation. It does not publish a peer-reviewed or independently audited reduction in waiting time, diagnostic error, length of stay or any other clinical metric attributable to the collaboration.
Connected hospital systems and paperless workflows
Digital infrastructure listed in Delhi
Manipal’s Delhi technology description lists electronic medical records, telemedicine, remote monitoring, AI, virtual reality, “augmented thinking” and automated pneumatic chutes. The stated objective is a seamless, paperless digital hospital.
These components address different bottlenecks. EMR reduces dependence on paper charts; telemedicine and monitoring support care outside the ward; virtual-reality tools can support training or clinical experiences; and pneumatic chutes automate the movement of materials within a facility. The description is a list of capabilities and goals, not evidence that every item is deployed identically across the network.
Yelahanka’s clinical technology mix
The Yelahanka hospital page highlights robotic surgery, digital records, advanced imaging and AI-enabled diagnostics. Together, these technologies target more precise procedures, richer diagnostic information and faster access to a patient’s history. Their value depends on trained teams, appropriate clinical indications, maintenance and safe integration with existing records.
Telemedicine and remote monitoring extend specialist access
Services offered through Manipal Hospitals Global
Manipal Hospitals Global describes secure consultations by video, phone or chat. The service covers initial consultations, follow-ups and second opinions, with digital prescriptions where clinically appropriate.
Where remote monitoring fits
Remote monitoring appears in Manipal’s hospital technology descriptions and in the wider digital-health program. Connected measurements can give clinicians information between visits, but the usefulness of a monitoring program depends on which device is used, how often data are reviewed, alert thresholds and the response process. Patients should confirm who receives alerts and what to do if a device reports an abnormal value.
Limits of a virtual visit
A remote consultation cannot perform every physical examination, procedure or diagnostic test. A clinician may therefore direct a patient to an in-person appointment, imaging service or emergency department. The exact clinician, specialty and prescription rules depend on local regulation and the service’s current coverage.
Robotics, imaging and AI-enabled diagnostics target clinical precision
Robotic surgery
Robotic surgery is one of the technologies identified at Yelahanka. Surgical robots provide instruments and a control interface; they do not operate independently. Outcomes still depend on the procedure, surgeon expertise, patient factors, perioperative care and the hospital’s protocols.
Rank #4
Advanced imaging and AI diagnostics
Advanced imaging can produce more detailed views for diagnosis and treatment planning. AI-enabled diagnostic tools can help analyse images or other clinical data, but they should be treated as decision-support systems that require validation, clinician oversight and appropriate handling of false positives and false negatives. The public descriptions do not provide a network-wide accuracy figure for Manipal’s AI diagnostic tools.
AI as a shift toward prevention
At the DH Bengaluru 2040 Summit, Manipal Hospitals Chairman Dr. H. Sudarshan Ballal said, “AI will help society move from illness to wellness care.” That ambition links patient-facing tools, monitoring and analytics to earlier intervention, but the statement is a vision rather than a published outcome measurement.
The Centre for Digital Health and Technologies broadens the innovation pipeline
Manipal’s Centre for Digital Health and Technologies works across:
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- Artificial intelligence and machine learning
- Telehealth and mobile health (mHealth)
- Remote monitoring
- Digital therapeutics
- Extended reality (XR)
- Data sharing
- Clinical decision support
This portfolio reaches beyond hospital IT. Digital therapeutics and decision-support systems require clinical validation; data-sharing projects require governance, consent and interoperability; and XR applications need evidence that they improve training or care. Listing a research area does not mean a finished product is available to every patient.

Medical-device and logistics projects show the wider ecosystem
MIDAS Hub: designing and commercializing devices
The DST-supported MIDAS Hub focuses on designing, testing and commercializing medical devices. A workshop held on 29 May 2024 and published on 17 June 2024 illustrates the program’s emphasis on moving device ideas toward validation and market use. This is an innovation and commercialization pathway, not a claim that every device discussed is already used in Manipal hospitals.
DRONE project: healthcare logistics
An ICMR–MAHE–KMC DRONE project applies drones to healthcare logistics. Its inaugural event took place on 10 April 2024. Logistics applications can address the movement of medical supplies or specimens, but the public project description does not establish a nationwide operating network, routine patient transport or measured delivery improvements.

Scale of the organization
Manipal Group’s corporate profile, accessed in 2026, reports more than 50 hospitals, over 12,600 beds, more than 11,000 doctors and over 8 million lives impacted annually. These are current profile figures and may change; they describe the group’s scale rather than a measurement of any one technology’s effect.

1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsHow to assess a Manipal digital-health service
- Identify the facility and country. Technology names can cover different implementations at different hospitals.
- Check whether the service is clinical or experimental. MAI and teleconsultations are patient-facing descriptions, while MIDAS, DRONE and much of the Centre’s work are innovation or research programs.
- Ask what human oversight exists. Confirm who reviews AI outputs, remote alerts or report explanations and how urgent problems are escalated.
- Confirm data and prescription handling. Ask how records are linked, which communication channel is official and whether digital prescriptions are valid for your location.
- Request evidence for consequential decisions. For surgery, diagnosis or chronic monitoring, ask about clinical indications, validation and the alternative in-person pathway.
Bottom line
Manipal Hospitals is combining patient-facing AI, telemedicine, connected records, cloud analytics, remote monitoring, robotics and diagnostic AI with a research and commercialization network. The strategy is broad and increasingly connected, but public sources mainly document capabilities, partnerships and project aims. They do not yet provide a single independent, peer-reviewed measure of the technology program’s overall clinical impact, so patients and providers should verify the current service, location and evidence for each use case.
