Main Line Health was preparing for possible hospital-at-home care by modernizing security for a workforce and technology environment that had spread beyond hospital walls. A Network World report published August 21, 2024 described moves to cloud-based security services, better visibility into connected devices, and network isolation for legacy equipment. It reported that the health system was planning its own hospital-at-home services but had no firm launch date. Current service pages describe home health, hospice, and Mobile Integrated Health; they do not establish whether a distinct acute hospital-at-home program has since launched.
What “hospital at home” means—and what was known about Main Line Health
Hospital-at-home care generally means delivering hospital-level treatment to selected patients in their homes, with clinical visits, virtual contact, monitoring, and coordination of services. It is more intensive than routine home health, though both take place outside a hospital.
The 2024 Network World feature described Main Line Health as planning a hospital-at-home offering, not as already operating one. It did not give a firm launch date. The health system’s current home health and hospice information and home health page document related services, but do not confirm an acute hospital-at-home launch.

How the care models differ
- Acute hospital at home: hospital-level care for selected patients in a home setting, supported by clinicians, monitoring, and coordination. The 2024 article used examples from other health systems to illustrate this model; those examples were not specifications for a Main Line Health service.
- Home health: visits from nurses or therapists for care at home. Main Line Health says telehealth can monitor care between visits, and that a nurse or therapist contacts a patient within 48 hours of discharge to arrange an evaluation visit.
- Mobile Integrated Health: an EMS service that brings care outside the hospital to help people manage health needs safely at home and, when appropriate, avoid unnecessary 911 calls and emergency-department visits. Main Line Health describes it on its EMS page.
These services are related, but the available descriptions do not make them interchangeable.

What the 2024 report said Main Line Health changed
Aaron Weismann joined Main Line Health as chief information security officer in summer 2020, during the pandemic. The feature said a distributed workforce and rapid growth in telemedicine exposed the limits of security tools designed around an on-premises perimeter. According to Weismann, the health system replaced those tools with cloud-based services.
The report also said Main Line Health used Armis to identify legacy devices that lacked modern security capabilities. That work helped inform investment in newer equipment and network isolation for older devices that remained. Weismann described the aim as making those devices exceptionally difficult to reach from the internet. These are actions and assessments reported in the 2024 feature, not independently audited security outcomes or evidence of an endorsement or current procurement relationship with Armis.

Reported scale of the environment
Network World described a complex, distributed organization: more than 14,000 employees; four acute-care hospitals; one rehabilitation hospital; a treatment center; five large ambulatory locations; 140 clinics; and medical and IT internet-of-things devices numbering in the “low six figures.” These are figures reported in 2024, not current verified counts.

In a hospital, connected devices and staff typically operate within a managed clinical environment. At home, devices may be outside that environment, while clinicians still need reliable information, secure access, and a way to respond when a patient’s condition changes. The 2024 feature connected the possibility of hospital-level services at home to medical devices that can be managed centrally while operating beyond the hospital.

At the time of the report, hospital-owned equipment sent home with patients was not independently connecting to the internet. The article said device makers were beginning to design secure connectivity into products. That description is specific to the 2024 report and should not be read as a statement about current equipment or capabilities.
Other health systems’ hospital-at-home examples in the feature included clinician visits, daily video contact, continuous vital-sign monitoring, testing, therapy, social work, meal services, and access to a virtual care team. They illustrate the operational demands of distributed care; they do not establish what Main Line Health planned to include in its own model.

Infrastructure questions a home-based model raises
- Device visibility: Can the health system identify what equipment is connected, where it is operating, and whether it is supported?
- Secure access: Can clinicians and devices connect to the systems they need without exposing vulnerable equipment or relying on a hospital-only perimeter?
- Central monitoring: Can relevant readings be observed and managed remotely, with the right teams able to see them?
- Clinical escalation: What happens when monitoring indicates a change that requires a clinician, an in-home visit, or a higher level of care?
- Service coordination: How are monitoring and virtual care integrated with home visits, testing, therapy, social work, and other support?
What the dated numbers do—and do not—show
The Network World feature included two broader figures as context, but neither should be treated as a present-day measurement:
- It attributed to McKinsey an estimate that up to $265 billion in Medicare and Medicaid treatment could shift to the home by 2025, described as one-quarter of the programs’ spending. This was a forecast reported in 2024, not a measured outcome.
- It said that, as of April 2024, 320 hospitals were approved for the federal Acute Hospital Care at Home program and treating more than 11,000 patients. Those figures were reported by the feature and were not independently verified here.
Neither figure confirms Main Line Health’s service status, patient volume, or a particular technology deployment.

What the DocGo announcement establishes
In October 2023, DocGo announced an agreement with Main Line Health covering medical transportation and collaboration on remote patient monitoring initiatives. The company described remote-monitoring services and devices as possible support for the health system. The announcement documents an agreement, but by itself does not confirm a deployment, current activity, or an active offering to patients.
For evaluating a health system’s readiness, the useful comparison points are device inventory and visibility, isolation of legacy equipment, secure remote connectivity, centralized monitoring and management, clinical escalation, and integration with home-care operations. The available information does not support ranking vendors or products.
