Plan on about 20–30 hours for a first playthrough of Mina the Hollower. That range comes from Yacht Club Games programmer David D’Angelo and is an estimate for first-time players, not a guaranteed completion time. Your result will depend mainly on how directly you follow the main route, how thoroughly you search the interconnected world, and how much time you spend experimenting with equipment.
At a glance: the numbers are estimates, not competing promises
Several playtime figures are now associated with Mina the Hollower, but they describe different things. The developer’s estimate covers a first-time playthrough, while the figures displayed by GOG are community-attributed categories from HowLongToBeat. They should not be treated as measurements made under identical conditions.
| Playtime figure | What it represents | Source and qualification |
|---|---|---|
| 20–30 hours | A first playthrough for a first-time player | Yacht Club Games programmer David D’Angelo, quoted by GameReactor on May 18, 2026; developer estimate |
| 18.5 hours | Main story | HowLongToBeat figure displayed by GOG; community-derived and subject to change |
| 24.5 hours | Main story plus side content | HowLongToBeat figure displayed by GOG; community-derived and subject to change |
| 31.5 hours | Completionist play | HowLongToBeat figure displayed by GOG; community-derived and subject to change |
The 18.5-hour main-story figure sits below the developer’s lower bound because a storefront category and a developer estimate can use different definitions of “finished.” It may also reflect experienced players, varied reporting, or different expectations about optional content. The figures are useful for planning, but none is a guaranteed result for your save file.
What the 20–30-hour developer estimate actually means
In a GameReactor interview published May 18, 2026, D’Angelo answered a question about the length of a playthrough: “For first time players, it’ll run about 20 to 30 hours. Imagine it like all the Shovel Knight campaigns in one! It’s quite the adventure… but we crammed the same density of fun you’d find in any Shovel Knight game!”
#1 Best Overall
- Mina the Hollower - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition
The important qualifier is “first time players.” The statement does not promise that every new player will finish in 20 hours, nor does it define a completionist route, a speedrun, or a second run. It is best read as the expected scale of a normal initial adventure for someone learning the game rather than as a timer that applies to every style of play.
A player who follows objectives efficiently and rarely detours may land near the lower end. Someone who investigates suspicious walls, searches side paths, tests weapons, or pauses to improve a preferred build can move toward the upper end or beyond it. Neither outcome indicates that the game is being played incorrectly.
Why individual playtimes differ
Exploration in an interconnected world
Yacht Club Games describes a large, densely interconnected world containing secrets and routes that reward looking beyond the most obvious path. Navigation is therefore part of the runtime, not merely travel between discrete stages. Players who check alternate passages and revisit areas will naturally spend more time than players who keep moving toward the next objective.
Learning a new combat vocabulary
Your first run includes time spent understanding enemy patterns, Mina’s movement, weapon behavior, and the consequences of different equipment choices. A newcomer may need several attempts to solve encounters that a practiced player handles quickly. Failed attempts and experimentation are part of the first-playthrough estimate’s context, even though no source provides a separate average for retries.

Build and equipment decisions
The official description highlights sidearms, Trinkets, and a level-up system that lets Mina be shaped around a preferred playstyle. Choosing a setup, testing it, and changing it when it does not suit a particular challenge can lengthen a run. Conversely, settling quickly on a comfortable configuration can make a more direct playthrough possible.
Optional discoveries
Secrets and side content create a meaningful difference between “reaching the end” and investigating what the world contains. The developer has not published a separate time budget for every secret or optional objective, so there is no reliable formula for converting a main-route run into a fully explored one. The community categories provide a broad reference instead.
How to interpret the GOG and HowLongToBeat figures
GOG currently displays three HowLongToBeat-attributed figures: 18.5 hours for the main story, 24.5 hours for the main story plus side content, and 31.5 hours for completionist play. The listing was accessed on October 13, 2026, and these values can change as additional players submit or revise their times.

This is the shortest published category and is most relevant if you intend to follow the critical path with limited detours. It is a community figure, not a Yacht Club Games benchmark, and the category’s definition may not match every player’s idea of “main story.”

Main story plus sides: 24.5 hours
This category is a useful planning midpoint for players who want to investigate optional material without treating every collectible or secret as mandatory. It falls within the developer’s 20–30-hour first-run range, although the two figures were produced differently.
Completionist: 31.5 hours
The completionist number is the best readily available indication of how long a very thorough community run may take, but it should not be presented as an official 100-percent target. The developer has not confirmed that 31.5 hours is the time required to obtain every item, defeat every optional encounter, or use every modifier.
What makes Mina the Hollower replayable
New Game Plus
Yacht Club Games has confirmed New Game Plus. That establishes a supported repeat-play mode, but no official source gives a duration for a New Game Plus run. A repeat playthrough may be faster because the player already knows routes and encounters, or slower if the goal is to test a new build or a higher level of challenge.

Hundreds of gameplay modifiers
The February 12, 2026 announcement also lists hundreds of gameplay modifiers. This is a substantial menu of possible rule changes, but the announcement does not state how many modifiers can be active at once, how they are unlocked, or how long it takes to explore them all. Their value for replayability is clear; their added hours are not quantified.

More than 25 bosses and mini-bosses
The same announcement counts more than 25 bosses and mini-bosses. That gives repeat players a large set of encounters to revisit with different equipment or constraints. It does not, by itself, establish a separate boss-rush length or a required number of attempts.
Sixty Trinkets and varied tools
Yacht Club Games lists 60 Trinkets, alongside sidearms with different movesets and Mina’s level-up system. These systems encourage players to compare combinations rather than treating one loadout as the only correct answer. A second run focused on a different setup can therefore feel meaningfully different even when the route is familiar.
First playthrough versus repeat play
| Goal | What is established | What is not established |
|---|---|---|
| Finish the first adventure | Developer estimate of 20–30 hours for first-time players | An exact time for an individual player |
| Follow only the main route | GOG displays an 18.5-hour community main-story figure | Whether every player or category uses the same definition of “main story” |
| Include side content | GOG displays a 24.5-hour community figure | A fixed amount of side content that applies to every run |
| Seek completion | GOG displays a 31.5-hour community completionist figure | An official 100-percent checklist or developer-verified duration |
| Start New Game Plus | New Game Plus is confirmed by Yacht Club Games | A separate official hours estimate |
| Try modifiers and alternate builds | Hundreds of gameplay modifiers, 60 Trinkets, sidearms, and leveling are confirmed | The number of hours needed to sample or master them |
Planning your time around the estimate
If you are deciding whether the game fits your schedule, treat 20–30 hours as a range of play sessions rather than a deadline.

A direct main-route approach is closer to the shorter community category, while exploration and optional objectives move you toward the developer’s upper range or the community completionist figure.
- Budget in sessions. Two-hour sessions would spread a 20–30-hour first run across roughly 10–15 sessions. One-hour sessions would spread it across roughly 20–30 sessions. These are simple planning conversions, not additional playtime measurements.
- Allow room for learning. Early attempts, route-finding, and build experimentation are normal parts of a first run. Avoid scheduling the final hour as though the estimate were a guaranteed countdown.
- Decide what “done” means before you start. Reaching the ending, investigating side content, and pursuing completionist goals are different targets. Defining yours prevents the community categories from creating the wrong expectation.
How to get more from a first run without chasing a checklist
Explore when the route invites it
The world’s interconnected layout and secrets are central to the experience. If a passage looks deliberately placed or a route loops back toward a familiar area, investigating it can reveal content that a purely forward-moving run misses. There is no published requirement to find every secret, so choose a level of exploration that keeps the adventure enjoyable.

Use equipment as an experiment
Sidearms, Trinkets, and leveling provide several ways to tune Mina. Instead of assuming the first effective setup is permanently optimal, try a different combination when a challenge exposes a weakness. This may add time, but it also uses the systems the developer identifies as part of the game’s design.
Separate discovery from completion
You can enjoy optional discoveries without committing to a complete collection. The 24.5-hour community “main plus sides” category is a useful conceptual target for that middle approach, while the 31.5-hour completionist figure is better reserved for players who intentionally pursue a very thorough run.
What is still unknown about total replay time
No named study, controlled playthrough test, independently measured median, or first-hand testing record establishes a precise total for repeat runs. In particular, there is no source-backed number for a second playthrough, all New Game Plus content, every gameplay modifier, or every possible Trinket and equipment combination.
Adventure Gamers, in an update dated May 29, 2026, repeats the 20–30-hour estimate and discusses exploration as a reason some players may approach the upper end. That supports the interpretation of the estimate but is not an independent playtime study. The clearest evidence remains the developer’s first-time-player range, supplemented by the clearly labeled community categories on GOG.
Quick Recap
Bottom line for different kinds of players
- Want the story with minimal detours? Use the 18.5-hour community main-story figure as a rough lower planning reference, while recognizing that it is not an official promise.
- Expect a normal first adventure? Set aside 20–30 hours, the range supplied by Yacht Club Games programmer David D’Angelo for first-time players.
- Like side content and exploration? The 24.5-hour community category is a useful midpoint, and thorough searching can push a first run higher.
- Chase completion and replay experiments? The 31.5-hour community completionist figure is a qualified reference, while New Game Plus, hundreds of modifiers, 60 Trinkets, and more than 25 bosses and mini-bosses provide reasons to continue beyond the first clear without a published upper limit.
