Grand Theft Auto: Vice City takes about 18–22 hours to finish the main story. A completionist run takes roughly 50–60 hours when you add properties, collectibles, races, emergency-service work, stunt jumps, rampages, robberies, and the other percentage objectives. Those are estimates rather than guaranteed runtimes: retries, exploration, route planning, platform differences, and your familiarity with the missions can move the total substantially.
Finishing the storyline is not the same as reaching 100%. Rockstar’s PS2 support article says that you can view the end credits with only 25%–40% completion by following the storyline missions. The checklist below explains what the remaining percentage requires.

The gap between the two figures is large because Vice City’s percentage system counts many activities that are unrelated to the critical path. A player who rushes objectives may finish the story near the low end of the first estimate, while a first-time player who explores, retries difficult vehicle sections, or leaves collectibles for later may take longer. The 50–60-hour figure similarly assumes reasonably efficient play rather than a speedrun or unlimited wandering.
What 100% completion means
A detailed checklist from iGrandTheftAuto (2026) counts 154 essential objectives. That number is a checklist accounting system, not a literal count of every individual package, jump, or mission. For example, all 35 rampages are treated as one completion objective, and hidden-package progress is awarded in ten-package increments. The actual work performed in the world is therefore much larger than 154 actions.

Story missions and the mission-count discrepancy
You may see different mission totals in otherwise reliable guides because they group the same content differently. The iGrandTheftAuto checklist counts 34 story objectives that award percentage. Rockstar Games’ 2024 PS2 support list instead identifies 21 storyline missions and 23 Cuban, Haitian, Love Fist, Biker, Avery, and Phil missions, alongside five phone missions and the other activity totals.
These figures are not proof that one source is missing missions. They reflect different labels: Rockstar separates the main storyline from character and asset strands, while the checklist counts percentage-awarding objectives. Use the percentage checklist for tracking a 100% save and Rockstar’s list as a content overview; do not add the two systems together.
Businesses, properties, and asset work
Eight businesses are part of the required asset progression
Buy the eight businesses identified by the checklist and finish the work that turns each one into a completed asset. Merely purchasing a property is not enough when that property has missions or production tasks attached. Asset income and mission completion are separate practical concerns: a business can generate money, but the percentage objective comes from completing its qualifying work.

Sunshine Autos has two distinct completion components. You must win its six street races, and you must deliver 24 import-garage vehicles across four lists. Treat the lists as a tracking project: record each delivered model so that a near-complete garage does not leave you guessing which vehicle is missing.

InterGlobal Film Studios
InterGlobal Film Studios unlocks four missions. Completing that strand also unlocks the final unique stunt jump mentioned in the checklist. If your jump total appears short after finishing other activities, check the studio progression before assuming a jump has failed to register.
Safehouses and story-unlocked properties
The guide identifies seven purchasable safehouses and two properties unlocked through the story. They are useful for saving, storing vehicles, and organizing a route through the city. The 100% summary gives an explicit required count for eight businesses, while safehouses are cataloged separately as properties rather than assigned their own percentage total in that summary.
Collectibles and one-time challenges
Hidden packages
All 100 hidden packages are required. The game awards progress in groups of ten, so collecting nine packages does not produce the same checklist increment as collecting the tenth. Use a map or a written grid and mark packages immediately; revisiting every island without a record is one of the easiest ways to lose time.
Unique stunt jumps
Complete all 36 unique stunt jumps. A jump only helps when the game recognizes it as the designated unique jump, so a dramatic leap that is not one of the listed locations does not substitute for a missing entry. Approach jumps with a suitable vehicle, line up the takeoff, and confirm the recognition message before moving on.

Rampages
There are 35 rampages. The checklist groups them as one objective, but you still have to complete every individual rampage. Because each attempt can fail quickly, clear nearby police attention, learn the weapon and target pattern, and retry from a controlled position instead of treating the entire set as one casual task.
Store robberies
Rob 15 stores. These are discrete robberies rather than a general “earn money” requirement. Keep a written list of completed locations and allow wanted-level pressure to cool down between attempts if it makes the next robbery safer.
Races, stadium events, RC missions, and checkpoints
Hyman Memorial Stadium
Complete all three stadium events: Dirt Ring, Bloodring, and Hotring. They test different driving skills, so a failed event does not indicate that the other two have counted. Verify each event separately in your notes.

Sunshine Autos street races
Win all six Sunshine Autos street races. “Entering” a race is not enough; the requirement is a win. Improve your odds by bringing a reliable vehicle, learning the route, and restarting promptly after a crash rather than trying to recover from a lost position.

RC challenges
Complete the three RC missions. Their small vehicles are sensitive to steering and camera position, so use short inputs and avoid unnecessary speed near obstacles. Record each completed challenge because the game’s broader activity list can make the RC tasks easy to overlook.
Hidden checkpoint challenges
Complete all six hidden checkpoint challenges. These are separate from ordinary story driving and from the six Sunshine Autos races. A route can be completed quickly yet still fail to count if a checkpoint is missed; restart and verify the completion result when that happens.
Dirt-track time trials
Finish both required dirt-track time trials. They are distinct from the stadium’s Dirt Ring event, so completing Dirt Ring does not replace either trial.

Vehicle sub-missions and taxi work
Emergency-service levels
- Vigilante: reach level 12.
- Paramedic: reach level 12.
- Firefighter: reach level 12.
These are cumulative level targets, not single mission wins. Plan around vehicle durability and travel time: a failed run resets the chain, making a safe route and a suitable vehicle more valuable than rushing the first few levels.

Pizza Boy
Reach Pizza Boy level 10. This target is lower than the three level-12 emergency-service requirements but is still mandatory for the checklist. Start only when you have enough uninterrupted time to build the delivery streak.
Taxi
Complete 100 passenger drop-offs. The requirement is the number of completed fares, not the amount of taxi money earned. Keep working until the game’s counter reaches 100, and do not assume that merely driving a taxi or abandoning a passenger counts.
A practical order for a 100% run
- Finish the story while buying required businesses as they become available. This opens later character, asset, and studio content and avoids a separate citywide tour solely to unlock properties.
- Complete each business strand as soon as it opens. Track the eight businesses, the Sunshine Autos lists, and the four InterGlobal Film Studios missions in separate notes.
- Do vehicle sub-missions during early free-roam. Emergency-service chains are easier before the city becomes cluttered with wanted-level interruptions and damaged vehicles.
- Use a map-based sweep for packages, jumps, rampages, robberies, and checkpoints. Divide the map by island or district, and mark every confirmed completion immediately.
- Finish races and stadium events in dedicated sessions. This keeps race wins, RC challenges, dirt-track trials, and stadium events from being confused with ordinary driving.
- Audit the checklist before declaring 100%. Confirm all four service targets, 100 taxi fares, 15 robberies, 35 rampages, 36 jumps, 100 packages, the six races, three RC missions, six checkpoints, two dirt trials, three stadium events, five phone assassinations, and every required asset task.
Why a save can appear stuck at 99%
A 99% file usually means one small, countable objective is missing rather than that the entire story must be replayed. Check categories in this order:
- Collectibles: verify the full 100-package total, not just the ten-package milestones you remember.
- Jumps and rampages: compare all 36 unique jumps and all 35 rampages against a location list; one unrecognized stunt or failed rampage is enough.
- Asset work: confirm every one of the eight businesses, all 24 Sunshine Autos import vehicles across four lists, and the four film-studio missions.
- Service levels: check the exact targets—Vigilante 12, Paramedic 12, Firefighter 12, and Pizza Boy 10.
- Races and events: make sure all six Sunshine Autos races are wins, all three stadium events are complete, both dirt-track trials are done, and all three RC missions and six checkpoint challenges are recorded.
- Small counters: verify five phone assassinations, 15 store robberies, and 100 taxi passengers. These are easy to postpone and forget.
Do not use the end credits as a completion test. Rockstar’s 25%–40% statement explains why a save can finish the narrative while still being far from 100%.
What you receive at 100%
The iGrandTheftAuto checklist reports these rewards for a fully completed file:
- Maximum health increases to 200.
- Maximum body armor increases to 200.
- Ammunition becomes infinite for all weapons.
- You can recruit three Vercetti Estate bodyguards for $2,000 each.
- The Frankie outfit unlocks at the Vercetti Estate.
- Vehicles driven by Tommy Vercetti receive double health.
These rewards are the practical payoff for completing the checklist, but they do not shorten the route to 100%; every required objective still has to register first.
Platform and edition qualifications
Rockstar’s quoted requirement list is explicitly for the PS2 version. Menus, save behavior, mission grouping, and small tracking details can differ in later ports or editions, so use the checklist as a planning framework and verify any platform-specific counter in your own version. The 18–22-hour story estimate and 50–60-hour completionist estimate are secondary-source playtime ranges, not official Rockstar runtimes.
