Plan for approximately 30–40 hours to finish the main story of Final Fantasy Resonance on PS5. A playthrough that adds most side quests and optional activities is likely to take about 50–60 hours, while broad completionist play—including challenge content and optional bosses—fits the producer’s estimate of roughly 60–80 hours. These are planning ranges from producer Keisuke Nakashima, not guaranteed times or averages measured from a large post-launch player sample.
Final Fantasy Resonance PS5 completion times at a glance
| Play style | Expected time | What that usually includes |
|---|---|---|
| Main story | Approximately 30–40 hours | The primary scenario with limited optional detours |
| Story plus lighter side-content run | Approximately 50–60 hours | A substantial selection of side quests, exploration and optional encounters |
| Broad completionist run | Approximately 60–80 hours | Most side quests, optional bosses, challenge activities, exploration and endgame content |
The ranges come from Square Enix producer Keisuke Nakashima in 2026 interviews. Your result can move outside them depending on combat speed, difficulty, retries, reading pace and how thoroughly you explore.
Where the 30–40-hour main-story estimate comes from
In a Japan Expo interview, Nakashima said that following only the main story should take about 30 to 40 hours. His Famitsu estimate is closely aligned: the main scenario is “about 30–40 hours,” with additional content extending the experience when players engage with it broadly.
That makes the 30–40-hour figure a developer planning estimate for a focused campaign, rather than a promise that every PS5 player will see the credits in that window. A player who examines every dialogue line, experiments with party builds or retries difficult encounters may take longer. Someone who follows objectives efficiently and uses a more forgiving difficulty setting may finish sooner.

What “main story” normally means here
For this estimate, “main story” means progressing through the primary scenario while treating optional quests, challenge battles and deep exploration as secondary. It does not mean rushing past all conversations or skipping every optional fight. The estimate is best used as a budget for a normal story-focused playthrough, not as a speedrun target.
Why completionist play can take about twice as long
The official PlayStation description highlights several optional systems and encounters: Gilgamesh battles, a Colosseum, the Chamber of Arms and a fight with Ultima Weapon. Side quests and exploration sit alongside those activities. Taken together, they explain why a broad run can approach twice the story-only commitment.
| Optional element | How it affects your schedule | Why it may take longer than a single story chapter |
|---|---|---|
| Side quests | Adds travel, objectives and additional battles | Quest chains can send you back through previously visited areas and may require preparation |
| Gilgamesh encounters | Creates extra combat checkpoints | Optional boss-style fights can involve retries and party adjustments |
| Colosseum | Provides repeatable or staged challenge content | Winning may require learning enemy patterns and refining equipment or abilities |
| Chamber of Arms | Adds exploration and combat outside the critical path | Optional areas take time to locate, clear and revisit if you are collecting everything |
| Ultima Weapon | Acts as a major optional battle | Preparation, attempts and recovery after a failed run can materially extend a save file |
| General exploration | Increases time spent searching maps and interacting with optional content | A completion-focused route is slower than traveling directly between story objectives |
Nakashima described completing all side quests as a 50-, 60- or even 80-hour experience in the Japan Expo interview. In Famitsu, he characterized broad play with the game’s many completionist elements as roughly 60–80 hours. Those statements support a wide completion range rather than one fixed “100%” number.

Which completionist target fits your play style?
Focused story run: 30–40 hours
Choose this target if you want the narrative and key battles while leaving most optional objectives for later. Keep moving through the main scenario, take convenient side quests and avoid repeated attempts at challenges that are not required to progress.
Story plus selected extras: 50–60 hours
This is a practical middle ground for players who want the world to feel substantially explored without treating every optional activity as mandatory. You might complete many side quests, investigate optional areas and attempt some special encounters, while skipping the most demanding challenges or stopping after a few failed attempts.
Broad completionist play: 60–80 hours
This target suits players who intend to clear most side quests and optional areas, work through challenge content and defeat major optional enemies. It also leaves room for experimentation, repeated battles and the backtracking that comes with searching for anything left unfinished.

“Completionist” is not presented as a formal trophy percentage in the available statements. It is Nakashima’s description of playing broadly and pursuing the game’s substantial optional content, so do not treat 80 hours as a guaranteed 100% checklist time.

1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsHow difficulty and habits change the final number
The producer’s ranges cover different kinds of players, and several habits can move your personal total:
- Difficulty setting: A casual or more forgiving setting can reduce failed attempts, while a harder setting may add retries and preparation time.
- Combat experimentation: Testing abilities, equipment and party combinations takes longer than using a familiar setup, but it can also prevent repeated defeats later.
- Dialogue and reading pace: Players who read every line and inspect optional conversations will spend more time than those who advance quickly through text.
- Exploration style: Direct travel keeps a story run near the lower end of the estimate; searching every area pushes a save toward the higher end.
- Retries: Optional bosses and Colosseum-style challenges can add an unpredictable amount of time because each failed attempt includes another approach, battle and recovery period.
- Route efficiency: Combining nearby side quests before returning to a hub can save time compared with completing them one at a time.
These factors are why the ranges should be used for planning—such as deciding whether the game fits a holiday break—rather than as a promise of identical completion times.

What the demo tells you about length
Square Enix says the free demo covers the opening chapter and provides approximately 3–5 hours of gameplay. Save data carries into the full release, so time spent in the demo is not necessarily discarded when you buy the complete game.
The demo is useful for judging combat feel, presentation and the opening pace. It is not a reliable way to multiply the chapter’s runtime across the entire campaign: early chapters can have a different balance of tutorials, dialogue, exploration and battles than later sections. Use the demo to decide whether the game’s systems suit you, then use the producer’s campaign estimates for time planning.

How to budget your own playthrough
- Set your primary target. Reserve about 30–40 hours if the main scenario is your priority, or choose a 50–60-hour middle-ground plan if you want regular side content.
- Decide how you will treat optional bosses. Mark Gilgamesh encounters, the Colosseum, the Chamber of Arms and Ultima Weapon as optional time blocks rather than assuming they fit inside the story estimate.
- Use the demo as a pacing check. Play the 3–5-hour opening chapter and note how quickly you read dialogue, fight encounters and explore. Do not scale the full campaign by simple chapter multiplication.
- Keep a short completion list. Track side quests and optional areas as you encounter them. This reduces late-game backtracking if you are aiming for the upper end of the range.
- Leave room for retries. If you plan to challenge optional bosses or Colosseum content, add uncommitted sessions rather than scheduling every hour as story progress.
- Reassess after the opening chapter. Your actual play pace is more useful than a generic hourly average. If the first chapter takes longer because you explore heavily, plan toward the upper side of your chosen range.
What “how long to beat” means for different players
A player asking only about the campaign usually wants the 30–40-hour estimate. Someone asking how long it takes to complete all side content should use the wider 50–80-hour band, with the lower part representing substantial but selective side play and the upper part representing broad completionist engagement. Optional bosses and challenge modes are the main reason two players who both finish the story can report very different totals.
There is no evidence here for a single measured average across thousands of PS5 saves, and no basis for promising that every player will reach a particular hour count. The most defensible expectation is therefore a focused campaign measured in a few dozen hours, with optional content capable of adding several dozen more.
