Nothing does not use one update schedule for every phone. The official specifications cited for Phone (1), Phone (2) and Phone (2a) Plus promise three years of Android-version updates and four years of security updates. Phone (1) and Phone (2) also specify security patches every two months. The Phone (3a) specification promises three years of Android updates and six years of security patches, with that six-year period beginning when each device first became available on the market.
Those are separate promises: a phone can stop receiving major Android releases while still being within its security-support period. Nothing has also said that Phone (1), Phone (2) and CMF Phone 1 will not receive Nothing OS 5.0, but that statement alone does not establish the final date of their security updates.
The update commitment depends on the model
Use the exact model name when checking support. “Nothing phone” is not a single policy category, and the published specifications show two different security-support periods.

The table contains sourced examples rather than a complete inventory of every Nothing or CMF handset. Do not assign one of these durations to an unlisted model without that model’s own official specification or support statement.

Android updates and security updates are different
Major Android-version updates
A major Android update moves the phone to a newer Android release and normally brings changes to the operating system, APIs, permissions, user interface and bundled features. Nothing’s “three years of Android updates” wording is a duration for that category of release; it is not a promise that every feature from a newer Nothing phone will appear on an older one.
Major-release eligibility can end before security maintenance does. That is why a phone can be excluded from a new Nothing OS version yet still have time remaining in its security commitment. Conversely, a security patch does not necessarily change the phone’s Android version.
Security, corrective and functionality maintenance
Security updates address vulnerabilities and other defects that could expose data or compromise the device. They are narrower than a full Android-version upgrade. For Phone (3a), Nothing’s series wording describes the six-year period as covering security, corrective and functionality updates. That language should not be read as a guarantee that every maintenance release will contain a major feature addition.
Only the Phone (1) and Phone (2) specifications cited here state a two-month patch cadence. That cadence should not be generalized to Phone (2a) Plus, Phone (3a), CMF Phone 1 or other models unless Nothing publishes the same detail for them.

How to interpret the support clock
Phone (3a) starts at first market availability
Nothing says the Phone (3a) series’ six-year update period starts when each device first became available on the market. This is different from assuming that the clock starts when an individual owner activates a phone, installs its first update or buys it second-hand. A later purchase does not restart the manufacturer’s stated period.
Other models need model-specific dates
The cited Phone (1), Phone (2) and Phone (2a) Plus specifications provide durations, but the retrieved pages do not provide publication dates or a model-by-model final patch date alongside those figures. To calculate an exact end date, first identify the regional model and its original market-availability date, then confirm Nothing’s current support statement for that model. Do not turn a duration into a calendar date by guessing the start point.
Regional and carrier variation
An update can be promised for a model without appearing for every owner on the same day. Nothing describes rollouts as indicative and phased by region and carrier where applicable. Firmware approval, network certification and regional packaging can therefore make two otherwise identical phones show different update availability.
What Nothing OS 5.0 eligibility tells you
Nothing’s Nothing OS 5.0 information identifies Phone (1), Phone (2) and CMF Phone 1 as having reached the end of major software support and says they will not receive that OS release. This is a statement about a major operating-system release. It is not, by itself, a statement that security patches stopped on the same day.

When assessing an older device, keep two questions separate:
- Is the phone eligible for the next major Nothing OS or Android release?
- Is the phone still inside its model-specific security-update period?
The first answer can be “no” while the second remains uncertain or still “yes.” Look for a security-support statement for the exact model rather than inferring one from OS 5.0 eligibility.
How to check for an update on a Nothing phone
Nothing’s support instructions use the following path:

- Open Settings.
- Tap System.
- Tap System updates.
- Allow the phone to check for available software.
- Read the update details, including the Android version, Nothing OS version and security-patch level, before selecting the download or install option.
If the screen says the phone is up to date but another owner has received an update, that does not prove your device is unsupported. Rollouts can be phased by region and carrier. Check again later while connected to a reliable network and with sufficient battery and storage.

What to do when an expected update is missing
Check the exact device and software state
- Confirm the model under the phone’s device-information screen; “Phone (2a) Plus,” for example, is not the same support entry as Phone (2a).
- In Settings > System > System updates, note the displayed Android version, Nothing OS version and security-patch date.
- Check whether the phone is carrier-branded, imported or running a regional firmware variant, because rollout timing can differ.
- Keep enough free storage and charge available for the download and installation.
Do not treat a delayed rollout as a lapsed commitment
A staged release may reach one region before another. Repeatedly checking or restarting the phone cannot force a package that has not been enabled for its region. Avoid installing firmware intended for a different model or region; a mismatched package can create boot, network or update failures.
Contact Nothing when the device remains eligible but cannot update
Nothing’s support guidance says to contact support if an expected update is missing. Provide the exact model, country or carrier, current Nothing OS and Android versions, security-patch date, and any error shown by the updater. These details let support distinguish a phased rollout from a device-specific problem.

Start with the model’s published commitment, not a generic claim about the brand. A handset with a four-year security period has a different remaining-life calculation from one with a six-year period. For Phone (3a), use the first-market-availability rule when estimating how much of the support window remains.
Then inspect the phone itself. The system-update screen shows the installed security-patch level, which is more useful than relying on a seller’s statement that the phone is “still supported.” Ask for the device’s region and carrier history as well, since those affect rollout timing even when the model is eligible.

If the seller cannot establish the model, region or software state, treat the remaining support as unverified. Do not assume that an Android-version upgrade is still due merely because the phone is receiving security patches, and do not assume that security support ended merely because a newer Nothing OS release is unavailable.
Questions to answer before relying on a support promise
How many Android updates does a Nothing Phone get?
The cited specifications for Phone (1), Phone (2), Phone (2a) Plus and Phone (3a) each state three years of Android updates. That figure is a model-specific duration, not a universal promise for every Nothing or CMF handset.
How long will my Nothing phone get security patches?
The cited figures are four years for Phone (1), Phone (2) and Phone (2a) Plus, and six years for Phone (3a). No duration is established here for CMF Phone 1; Nothing’s OS 5.0 statement only addresses major software support.

No. OS 5.0 eligibility concerns a major software release. It does not establish the final security-patch date, so check the model’s separate security commitment.
Why has another owner received an update first?
Nothing says rollout timing is indicative and may be phased by region and carrier. Different availability dates do not necessarily indicate different support commitments.
Bottom line
For the models covered by Nothing’s published specifications, the answer ranges from four to six years of security support, while the stated Android-version period is three years. Phone (3a) has the longest documented security window, starting at first market availability.
