For Worlds 2026, Riot announced 19 team places: three apiece for the LCK, LCS, LCP, LEC, and LPL; two for CBLOL; one for the MSI champion; and one extra place for the region whose team finishes second at MSI. Most teams qualify through their own region’s final-split competition, but the route and playoff format vary by league. The MSI champion’s invite is conditional: its team must also qualify for playoffs in its home region.
How many teams qualify for Worlds 2026?
Riot’s March 22, 2026 announcement says 19 teams will qualify. The places are split between regional league routes and two distinct MSI-related routes:
| Qualification route | Worlds places |
|---|---|
| LCK | 3 |
| LCS | 3 |
| LCP | 3 |
| LEC | 3 |
| LPL | 3 |
| CBLOL | 2 |
| MSI champion | 1, conditional on the champion’s team qualifying for playoffs in its home region |
| Region whose team finishes second at MSI | 1 additional place for that region’s domestic league |
The MSI champion’s invite and the second-place region’s extra place are separate benefits. The first belongs to the MSI-winning team, subject to the home-region playoff condition. The second goes to the runner-up’s region, which receives an additional domestic-league place.

How do teams qualify through their regional leagues?
Teams generally earn Worlds places through their region’s final split and playoff system. Riot’s 2026 season overview identifies six regional leagues—LCK, LCS, LCP, LEC, LPL, and CBLOL—and says regions use their own split formats. There is no single standings formula or playoff bracket shared across all six.

LCK: three playoff teams qualify
The LCK sends its top three teams from Split 3 playoffs to Worlds. Its route into those playoffs includes a regular season and a four-team play-in for the remaining playoff places. See the 2026 LCK handbook for the league’s rules.

How does MSI affect Worlds qualification and seeding?
MSI affects who can reach Worlds as well as how qualified teams are seeded. Its champion receives a Worlds invite if its team also qualifies for playoffs in its home region. Separately, the region represented by the MSI runner-up receives one additional place in its domestic league.
