There is no single phone that is best for everyone. The title alone also does not identify which phone the video features, who made it, or what they tested. As of October 4, 2026, the Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra and Apple iPhone 18 Pro Max are current flagship contenders, but choosing between them depends on what matters to you: ecosystem, camera and video, display, performance, battery, distinctive features, and cost.
What does “best phone” mean?
“Best” is a judgment about fit, not a universal result established by a headline, a specification, or an editorial ranking. A phone may suit someone who wants a particular platform or feature especially well while being a poor match for another person.
The title does not say which handset the video covers. Identify the model from the video itself before assessing its claim. If the creator shares hands-on impressions, distinguish those observations from published specifications and other outlets’ comparisons; the title does not establish that the creator tested anything.
Which phones are current contenders?
Current coverage compares the iPhone 18 Pro Max, released in September 2026, with Samsung’s Galaxy S26 Ultra. Recent coverage also places Google’s Pixel 11 Pro in the camera-phone conversation. These mentions are not a controlled three-way test, so they do not establish an overall winner.

For example, TechRadar’s comparison of the iPhone 18 Pro Max and Galaxy S26 Ultra discusses camera differences, including macro photography. It does not provide a basis here for declaring one the definitive camera winner. Tom’s Guide’s Samsung buying-guide coverage highlights the Galaxy S26 Ultra’s Privacy Display, a feature whose value depends on whether you need it.
How to compare the phones that matter to you
Use the same criteria for each candidate. A difference only matters if it affects how you use a phone.

- Please note, this device does not support E-SIM; This 4G model is compatible with all GSM networks worldwide outside of the U.S. In the US, ONLY compatible with T-Mobile and their MVNO's (Metro and Standup). It will NOT work with other CDMA carriers, and it is also not compatible with their MVNO (Visible, Xfinity Mobile, US Mobile, Cricket Wireless, etc).
- Compatibility with certain third-party devices and accessibility accessories, including some hearing aids, may vary depending on manufacturer support, Bluetooth protocols, software compatibility, and regional firmware limitations. For additional hearing aid compatibility information, please refer to Samsung’s official support documentation.

| What to compare | What to ask | What the available coverage establishes |
|---|---|---|
| Platform and ecosystem | Which operating system, services, and other devices do you already use? | There is current Samsung-versus-Apple flagship coverage, but it cannot decide which ecosystem suits an individual reader. |
| Display | Do size, refresh rate, brightness, resolution, or privacy features matter most to you? | A recent iPhone 18 Pro Max–Galaxy S26 Ultra comparison reports the same screen size and refresh rate for both, with differences in pixel density and peak brightness. Tom’s Guide also highlights Samsung’s Privacy Display. Those differences do not determine personal preference. |
| Camera and video | Do you care most about still photos, zoom, macro, low light, or video? | TechRadar’s comparison discusses camera capabilities, including macro photography, but the available result is not a full controlled test across matched conditions. |
| Performance | Are you judging everyday responsiveness, demanding apps, or benchmark results? | Scores reported for older iPhone 17 Pro Max and Galaxy S26 Ultra comparisons are not a current matched test against the iPhone 18 Pro Max. They cannot substantiate a current performance winner. |
| Battery | Do you need a particular pattern of daily use, or are you relying on a lab endurance result? | Older comparisons discuss battery testing, but no current equal-condition endurance result for these two contenders is established here. |
| Distinctive features | Will a specific feature change how or where you use the phone? | Samsung’s Privacy Display is highlighted in current buying-guide coverage; whether it is useful depends on your circumstances. |
| Price and value | What are the local prices for your preferred storage tier, and what will the total cost be? | No country-specific current price, retailer terms, or budget is established. Prices and availability need checking for your location and purchase date. |
Why a feature or score does not settle the question
A specification can show a difference without showing that it matters more than another difference. A distinctive display feature may be valuable to someone who often uses a phone in public, for example, but irrelevant to someone who does not need it. Likewise, a camera comparison focused on macro photography cannot answer which phone is better for video, zoom, or low-light stills.
Benchmark results also need context: the tested models, benchmark version, and conditions matter. Scores from older comparisons involving the iPhone 17 Pro Max do not establish how the iPhone 18 Pro Max performs against the Galaxy S26 Ultra. Battery endurance has the same problem: without a current test using comparable conditions, an older lab result cannot predict every reader’s mixed daily use.

How to choose the best phone for you
- Start with your ecosystem. Decide which platform and services fit your existing devices and habits.
- Pick your top two priorities. Choose from camera and video, display, performance, battery, and features such as Privacy Display. Be specific about the camera tasks or display qualities you care about.
- Look for evidence on those priorities. Prefer comparisons that cover the exact models and relevant use case. For camera or battery claims, check whether conditions are matched; for benchmarks, check the version and devices tested.
- Compare the local total cost. Check current pricing for the storage configuration you want, plus any carrier or other purchase terms that affect the amount you will pay.
- Make a conditional choice. Favor the model that best fits your actual priorities rather than treating a review’s winner as a universal verdict.
What the headline can—and cannot—tell you
“How is this the best phone on the market?” is a useful question to ask of a video, but the title alone does not identify the device or substantiate the claim. Current comparison coverage offers relevant contenders and points of difference; it does not provide a controlled, all-purpose test proving one phone is best for every buyer.
