Giorgi Kobaidze’s cyberpunk GitHub profile is built from 23 SVG images and an automated pipeline that turns contribution activity into an isometric city. In his October 1, 2026, project account, each active day becomes a building, while quiet days remain empty lots. The approach works within the limited rendering options of a GitHub profile README: rather than relying on interactive page code, it composes the console from image slices and refreshes generated assets with GitHub Actions.
GitHub displays a profile README when a public repository matches the account’s username and contains a nonempty README.md at its root. See GitHub’s profile README instructions for the setup requirements. The visual and automation details below are Kobaidze’s account of his project, not an independently tested tutorial.
How the profile becomes a console
Kobaidze says GitHub strips scripts, style blocks, and inline style attributes from README content. He therefore built the visual effects into SVG images, including a blinking cursor and glitch treatment. In the image context he describes, external resources and hover or in-image interactions are unavailable; GitHub’s image caching can also delay when a changed image appears.
The console is split into 23 SVG slices. To make them read as one window, the header carries the top border and title bar, the footer carries the bottom border, and the intermediate slices continue the side rails. Kobaidze aligns the images to a 40-pixel grid, lets the glow extend past slice edges, and uses align="top" to avoid a small inline-image gap.

How contribution activity becomes a city
The visualization maps a 53-week-by-7-day contribution grid into an isometric scene. A day with contributions becomes a building with a roof and two walls; a day with none remains an empty lot. Buildings are drawn back to front with a painter’s algorithm so nearer shapes layer over those behind them.
Why building heights use a square-root scale
The author’s height rule is h = 8 + 110 * sqrt(c / c_max), where c is a day’s contribution count and c_max is the busiest day’s count. He chose the square-root curve because it gives smaller counts more visible height without letting the busiest day dominate in direct proportion. In the post’s example, the busiest day has 43 contributions.

These are the author’s illustrative outputs for the project’s formula and example maximum, not performance or usability measurements. A seeded random generator keeps building windows stable when the data and seed have not changed.
Choosing green or blue
Kobaidze rendered both green and blue versions. Green echoes the familiar contribution graph; blue better matched the neon palette of this profile. His choice was a design preference, not the result of a reader test.

How the assets are updated
Kobaidze describes a four-part Python pipeline: fetch.py collects data into JSON, render.py creates the SVGs, readme.py updates marked README sections, and Git commits only when generated files differ. This keeps unchanged runs from creating unnecessary commits.
Fetching GitHub and DEV data
The post’s GraphQL queries gather follower and pull-request totals, owned public repositories, stars, forks, language sizes, contribution years, and contribution calendars. Because the described API approach allows only one contribution-calendar year per request, the author uses aliases to query multiple years.

For DEV, the project uses the Forem API. The post distinguishes public article, reaction, and comment totals from private article views and follower counts, which it says require an API key. GitHub and DEV fetches can fail independently; Kobaidze says the pipeline retains prior JSON values when one fetch fails, so a partial outage can leave the profile showing one-day-old data rather than blanking it. That is the author’s stated fallback behavior, not an independently verified guarantee.

Kobaidze says the GitHub and DEV credentials are stored as Actions secrets. He describes his fine-grained GitHub token as read-only with Metadata and Contents permissions. That is his configuration for this project, not a universal statement that those permissions are sufficient or current for every setup.

The project’s central design decision is to treat the profile README as a constrained canvas: assemble visual effects from images, then automate the generation of those images and the README content. The post does not report formal performance testing or a user study, so its contribution counts, slice dimensions, formula examples, and design choices should be read as implementation details rather than measured results.
Kobaidze recalls seeing the idea and deciding: “Are you kidding me? This is so cool! I’m building it right now. I don’t care how tired I am.” His article invites readers to fork the project, change the username, and build their own version.
