“Removing” a Frontpoint sensor can mean three different things: temporarily bypassing it, physically taking it off a wall or frame, or deleting it from your account or panel. Frontpoint documents how to bypass a sensor and how to take one down, but its general device-management instructions do not establish a sensor-specific deletion procedure. Choose the action that matches what you need; physical removal alone does not confirm that the sensor is deleted or no longer monitored.
Which kind of sensor removal do you need?
| Action | What it does | What Frontpoint’s guidance establishes |
|---|---|---|
| Bypass | Temporarily excludes the sensor from active monitoring under the system’s bypass rules. | A bypassed sensor is not actively monitored and will not trigger an alarm while bypassed. Bypass states reset under specified system conditions. Frontpoint explains bypassing sensors in its app. |
| Physical take-down | Separates the sensor from its mounting surface, for example when moving or relocating it. | Frontpoint recommends slowly working a thin tool between the adhesive and the mounting surface. This does not establish that the sensor has been removed from the account or panel. See Frontpoint’s take-down instructions. |
| Account or panel deletion | Would remove the device’s registration from the system or account. | Frontpoint’s general device-management page says users can rename or remove devices, but does not provide a security-sensor-specific procedure or explain the effect on monitoring. Ask Frontpoint for instructions for your sensor and system. Review the general device-management guidance. |
How to physically take down an adhesive-mounted sensor
Frontpoint recommends using a thin tool—such as a butter knife, putty knife, or dental floss—and slowly working it between the adhesive and the mounting surface. The aim is to separate the adhesive gradually; Frontpoint says this can help avoid ruining the current adhesive or damaging painted walls. The guidance does not specify a tested tool material or guarantee that either the adhesive or surface will remain undamaged.
- Choose physical take-down only if you mean to detach the sensor. It is not the same as bypassing or deleting the device.
- Work slowly between the adhesive and the mounting surface. Use one of Frontpoint’s suggested thin tools: a butter knife, putty knife, or dental floss.
- Do not assume detaching it changes its system status. Contact Frontpoint if you also need the sensor removed from the account or panel.
Frontpoint’s instructions are available in “How do I take down a sensor if I need to move it?”. A plastic putty knife is one possible practical choice, but Frontpoint names a putty knife generally and does not specify plastic.

If you are moving the security system
For a move, Frontpoint’s guidance is to disarm the system, power down the Control Panel, and then carefully remove the sensors. Its moving guidance also says the Mover’s Kit includes adhesives for remounting sensors. It does not establish the kit’s current availability or whether the adhesives can be purchased separately.

When to bypass a sensor instead
Use bypass when you need a temporary change in sensor coverage rather than taking the device off its mount. Frontpoint states that a bypassed sensor is not actively monitored and will not trigger an alarm if activated while bypassed. Bypass is temporary, and its state resets under specified system conditions; it is not device deletion. Follow Frontpoint’s app bypass instructions for the controls available to your system.

Frontpoint’s general device-settings guidance describes managing devices through the app or website and says users can rename or remove devices. It does not show that a security sensor can be deleted through a particular menu, nor does it explain how deletion affects monitoring or service. The page also notes that settings can vary between the app and website, and device visibility can depend on the service package.
