The right way to restore an Acronis backup depends on what you need back and whether Windows can start. For individual files, use the backup in the Acronis app; for a system disk, use its recovery workflow; if the computer will not boot, start it from Acronis bootable media. Acronis products and releases use different labels and features, so the steps below are specific to the documented Cyber Protect Home Office versions unless noted.
Choose the right restore method
| What you need to restore | Can Windows start? | Documented route |
|---|---|---|
| Selected files or folders | Yes | Restore from the backup in Acronis Cyber Protect Home Office. |
| System disk or partitions | Yes | Use the Home Office recovery workflow and restart when prompted. |
| System disk or partitions | No | Boot from Acronis bootable media and recover from the backup. |
Before proceeding, identify your Acronis product and version, operating system, backup location, and recovery scope. These details matter: the instructions cited here cover Home Office 2022 and 2023, alongside separate Cyber Protection Service and Cyber Protect 16 documentation; they do not establish one workflow for every Acronis product.
Restore files or folders in Cyber Protect Home Office
- Open Backup in Acronis Cyber Protect Home Office and select the backup that contains the files.
- Choose a backup version if you need a particular point in time. The documented 2023 workflow selects the latest version by default.
- Select the files or folders to recover.
- Choose whether to restore them to their original location or another folder, then start the restore.
Check the selected version and destination before starting, especially if you are restoring over existing files. The available version and interface labels may differ by release. Acronis Cyber Protect Home Office documentation

Acronis warns that disk recovery from Acronis Cloud may take a long time depending on internet connection speed; the cited guide does not give a fixed duration. Acronis Cyber Protect Home Office 2022: Recovering your system from Acronis Cloud
Check the destination before disk recovery
Disk or partition recovery is not the same as restoring a few files. Acronis warns that data on the selected destination partition will be lost because the recovered data and file system replace its contents. Confirm that the intended target is selected and that anything you need from it is backed up elsewhere before proceeding. Acronis Cyber Protect Home Office recovery documentation

Restoring to a different computer
A standard system recovery should not be assumed to work unchanged on different hardware. In the Cyber Protect 16 documentation, Acronis specifies Universal Restore for recovery to dissimilar hardware. That instruction is product-specific; confirm that your edition and license support the required feature and follow the documentation for your installed version.
