To use downloaded music in Rekordbox, first obtain audio files through a legitimate source, then import them into Rekordbox on Mac or Windows with File > Import > Import Track for one file or File > Import > Import Folder for a folder. Rekordbox adds the selection to Collection; streaming access is a separate workflow and does not create files you can export to USB or SD.
How to download music on Rekordbox
Rekordbox is the library and DJ-performance software in this workflow. Its documentation explains how to import audio files, but does not establish an in-app storefront for buying general music downloads. Obtain files separately from a legitimate source, then import them.
- Save the audio files in a stable folder on your Mac or Windows computer. Rekordbox must be able to find them later; moving or deleting source files can leave missing-file entries in your Collection.
- In Rekordbox, choose File > Import > Import Track to add a single file, or File > Import > Import Folder to add a folder. These are the documented desktop steps in the Rekordbox ver. 7.2.14 manual; labels may change in later versions.
- Select the file or folder. Rekordbox adds the track to Collection and loads its tag information. Analysis starts if Auto Analysis is enabled.
- Check that the track appears in Collection and that its file remains where Rekordbox can access it. If the file is missing, use Rekordbox’s file-relocation workflow or remove the unusable entry from Collection.
Local music or streaming: which should you use?

A streaming service’s offline cache is not an exportable music file. Do not assume that a track will remain available after a subscription ends; check the service’s current terms and Rekordbox’s current compatibility information. The official streaming FAQ also cautions that regional service availability does not necessarily mean the service is supported in Rekordbox.
Can I download songs from Spotify to Rekordbox?
Do not treat Spotify streaming or offline listening as a way to obtain audio files for import or DJ export. Rekordbox’s current FAQ includes Spotify playlist and Collection behavior beginning with ver. 7.2.16, but that is a streaming integration, not a general music-file download route. Check the current Rekordbox support information for your version, territory, and plan before relying on a service integration.

Why can’t I export streaming tracks to USB?
Rekordbox says streaming-service tracks cannot be used in EXPORT mode and cannot be exported to USB storage or SD cards. Streaming access is intended for supported playback inside the relevant software and service workflow, not for creating a portable file you can move to DJ media.
Offline playback rules also differ by service. For example, the Rekordbox FAQ states that SoundCloud Go+ tracks cannot be played offline. Do not assume another service follows the same rule; check its current Rekordbox guidance and subscription terms.

Can I add music to Rekordbox on a phone or tablet?
Rekordbox’s mobile operation FAQ describes importing tracks from a smartphone or connected external storage: choose File on the library-selection screen. It also documents Mobile Library Sync over the same Wi-Fi network and Cloud Library Sync upload and download workflows. Exact availability and steps can depend on the mobile app and library setup; consult the official mobile operation FAQ.

Supported audio formats vary by DJ equipment. Before preparing export media, check the compatibility information for the exact player or controller you will use rather than assuming every file Rekordbox can import will work on every device. Also check that device’s media and file-system requirements. A USB drive does not remove the restriction on exporting streaming tracks.

Playing streaming music in public
Permission to play streamed music in a club or other public setting depends on the streaming-service contract and the copyright laws that apply where you are. Rekordbox’s FAQ says this depends on the service contract, national copyright laws, and international conventions. Check the relevant service terms and local rules; there is no universal permission implied by being able to play a track in the software.
