A 21-year-old man has been charged with capital murder in the deaths of his father, mother and sister in Wichita, Kansas. Police information reported that a toddler and two teenagers were inside the home and were not injured. The charges are allegations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.

What happened in the Wichita home

Wichita police officers responded on September 26, 2026, to a home in the 5000 block of East Blake Street in southeast Wichita after a 911 call reported that people had been shot, according to police information reported by Law&Crime. Officers found three adults dead.

The Sedgwick County District Attorney’s Office identified the victims in its September 30 charging announcement as Juan Valenzuela-Ayala, Brenda Silva Cervantes—also rendered Brenda Valenzuela-Silva in the release—and Daisy Valenzuela. The announcement said 21-year-old Juan Valenzuela-Silva was charged in their deaths.

Three younger family members were reported unharmed

Police information reported by Law&Crime said a 17-year-old boy, a 17-year-old girl and a 2-year-old girl were in the home and were not injured. Wichita Police Chief Joe Sullivan said officers’ first priority on arrival was ensuring the children were safe.

What charges were filed

On September 30, 2026, Sedgwick County District Attorney Marc Bennett announced that Juan Valenzuela-Silva had been charged in Sedgwick County District Court with capital murder and aggravated endangering a child. The District Attorney’s Office release says the capital-murder charge invokes K.S.A. 21-5401(a)(6): the intentional and premeditated killing of more than one person in the same act or transaction, or in connected acts or transactions.

That statutory description is the prosecution’s theory in the charge, not a court finding that the allegations are true. The materials available for this report do not establish a motive or a later court ruling.

What penalty could follow a conviction

The District Attorney’s Office says a person convicted of capital murder faces life imprisonment without parole or the death penalty. As of the September 30 release, prosecutors had not decided whether to seek the death penalty in this case. Those are potential consequences described by the prosecutor; no sentencing outcome has been determined.

What is known about the case’s status

The charging announcement reported a $100,000,000 bond. A bond amount is not evidence of guilt and does not determine the case’s outcome. The District Attorney’s Office said the case was pending and that it would make no further statements beyond public court filings.

The office also stated: “Every defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.” The available information does not establish subsequent court proceedings or the eventual outcome.

What the family’s goodbye message means

Guadalupe Vazquez, identified by AOL/KWCH as a relative of the victims and fundraiser organizer, wrote: “How do you begin to say goodbye to three people you love at the same time?” The line came from the family fundraiser, not from police or prosecutors.
