To set up AOL Mail in Samsung Email, add it as an Other account, choose Manual setup if prompted, and select IMAP if you use the mailbox on multiple devices. Enter AOL’s current incoming and outgoing server settings, then finish sign-in. If the app rejects your regular AOL password, you may need an AOL app password.
Set up AOL Mail in Samsung Email
Samsung’s documented process supports manual setup for accounts the app does not recognize automatically. Menu names and locations can differ by Galaxy model and software version. Samsung’s setup guide was published June 5, 2021, and notes that device screens may vary: Samsung Email setup instructions.
- Open the Email app on your Galaxy phone. If it is not installed, Samsung says you can download Samsung Email from Galaxy Store or Google Play.
- Tap Other when asked which kind of account you want to add. If you already have an account in the app, open its add-account option; its location varies by version.
- Enter your full AOL email address and continue. Choose Manual setup if the app offers that option.
- Select IMAP if you read the same mailbox on more than one device. Samsung recommends IMAP for that use.
- Enter AOL’s current incoming and outgoing mail server settings, then complete sign-in. Use AOL’s official instructions for the values: AOL mail settings for third-party apps. The exact server names, ports, and encryption options are not included here, so don’t guess or copy settings from an unofficial source.
When you need an AOL app password
AOL says an app password is needed for a third-party mail app that does not use AOL’s branded sign-in page. If Samsung Email opens AOL’s sign-in flow, follow that flow; if it asks for a password directly and your regular AOL password is rejected, create an app password instead.
- Sign in to your AOL account and open Account Security.
- Choose the option to generate an app password, name the app, and generate the password.
- Enter the generated password in Samsung Email when it asks for the account password.
AOL says an app password remains active even if you change your main account password. To invalidate one, delete it from the app-password list. See AOL’s app-password instructions.

Choose between Samsung Email and AOL’s app
If you want to keep using the mail app already on your Galaxy phone, Samsung Email provides a manual account-setup route. AOL also offers an official Android app, which is an alternative if you prefer AOL’s own app and sign-in experience: AOL app for Android. The available information establishes these two paths but does not support a detailed feature-by-feature comparison.
Troubleshoot setup or sign-in failures
If the account will not connect or authenticate, work through these checks. Samsung lists credentials, mail settings, two-step verification, service problems, and network connectivity among possible causes; its troubleshooting guidance is Samsung Email troubleshooting.

- Check the address and password: Confirm the full AOL address is correct. If the app requests a password directly rather than using AOL’s branded sign-in, try an app password.
- Recheck the server settings: Compare each incoming and outgoing value with AOL’s current official settings. Avoid substituting values from an unrelated provider or an unofficial guide.
- Consider two-step verification: If sign-in is protected by additional verification, follow the prompts or AOL’s instructions for third-party app access.
- Check the connection and service: Try a stable network and consider whether AOL’s mail service may be temporarily unavailable.
- Review the app’s account setup: If necessary, remove the incomplete account and try adding it again using Other and Manual setup. Exact menu paths vary by phone and software version.
