To connect a Logitech mouse, first identify whether it uses Bluetooth, a standard 2.4 GHz receiver, a Unifying receiver, or a Logi Bolt receiver. These connection types are not interchangeable: check the mouse’s underside and the receiver’s markings before pairing or buying a replacement.

Identify how your Logitech mouse connects

Check the label or symbols on the mouse’s underside, then inspect the USB receiver for a model number or logo. Logitech distinguishes standard 2.4 GHz receivers, Unifying receivers, and Logi Bolt receivers; a Logitech receiver is not automatically compatible with every Logitech mouse. See Logitech’s receiver identification and troubleshooting guide.

Connection method What to look for What to do
Bluetooth The mouse model supports Bluetooth; it may have a connect or channel control. Put the mouse in pairing mode and select it in your computer’s Bluetooth settings. Exact steps depend on the model and operating system.
Unifying receiver The mouse and receiver bear the Unifying logo. Pair using Logitech’s Unifying process. One Unifying receiver supports up to six Unifying devices.
Logi Bolt receiver The mouse and receiver are compatible with Logi Bolt. Pair through Logi Options+ or use Bluetooth Low Energy if the mouse supports it.
Standard 2.4 GHz receiver The receiver is not identified as Unifying or Bolt; compatibility is model-specific. Use the receiver intended for that mouse and check the model’s support information before attempting pairing or buying a replacement.

Logitech confirms that Bolt devices can connect either through Bluetooth Low Energy or a Logi Bolt USB receiver, but the available choices vary by mouse model. Check Logitech’s Bolt connection guidance and the support page for your specific model.

Pair the mouse using its connection type

Connect by Bluetooth

  1. Check the mouse’s model support information to confirm Bluetooth is available.
  2. Use the mouse’s connect or channel control to enter pairing mode. The exact button sequence varies by model.
  3. Open Bluetooth settings on your computer, choose the mouse from the available devices, and follow the on-screen prompts.

If the mouse does not appear, confirm it is powered on and in pairing mode, then consult its model-specific instructions. A receiver-only mouse cannot be paired through Bluetooth.

Logitech USB Unifying Receiver - 2 Pack
  • TECHNICAL REQUIREMENT: This is not a standard plug-and-play receiver. It strictly requires -downloading the official Logitech Unifying Software to sync and pair with your compatible keyboard or mouse

Pair a Unifying mouse

Use this process only for a mouse marked with the Unifying logo and a compatible Unifying receiver. Logitech’s documented workflow launches its Unifying software and guides you through prompts, including turning the mouse off and on. Follow the instructions for your device, then move the mouse to confirm the cursor responds. See Logitech’s Unifying pairing instructions.

If pairing does not complete, restart the process and check the receiver connection using the troubleshooting steps below. One receiver can pair with up to six Unifying devices, but that capacity does not make it compatible with Bolt or standard 2.4 GHz mice. Logitech notes that its Unifying Software and Connection Utility are no longer supported or maintained; use Logi Options+ only if Logitech lists your individual device as supported. Read Logitech’s Unifying software and compatibility guidance.

Logitech Bolt USB-C Receiver
  • FOR BACKUP OR MULTI-COMPUTER USE - Have it handy in case you need to replace the receiver that came with your Logi Bolt wireless device. Connect to two different computers with a strong, secure Logi Bolt wireless connection on both devices. Use it with your Flow-enabled Logi Bolt mouse for your multi-computer workflows. These are just a few reasons to buy a Logi Bolt receiver.
  • RELIABLE, SECURE WIRELESS - Designed for security and high performance, Logi Bolt delivers a strong and secure, no drop-off connection for up to 10 meters (33 feet)¹, even in congested wireless environments. Compatible with: Windows, macOS, Linux, Chrome OS.
  • DISCRETE AND CONVENIENT - One port is all it takes. Once the receiver is plugged in, you can keep it installed. Take your laptop and connected Logi Bolt devices with you to different workspaces and keep working.
  • ONE RECEIVER - 6 DEVICES - Connect up to 6 Logi Bolt wireless keyboards and mice to one computer with a single Logi Bolt receiver and forget the hassle of multiple USB receivers. Plus, keep one wireless keyboard/mouse set in each workspace, then simply move your laptop into range. No need to carry or commute with mice or keyboards.

Pair a Logi Bolt mouse with its receiver

  1. Open Logi Options+ and choose Add Device.
  2. Select the Logi Bolt receiver.
  3. Hold the mouse’s connect button for about three seconds, until its light blinks rapidly.
  4. When the mouse appears in the app, select Connect and complete the verification prompt.

The app should show the mouse as connected. These steps apply to Bolt pairing through a Bolt receiver; do not use them as a substitute for model-specific Bluetooth instructions. Logitech’s Logi Bolt pairing instructions.

Fix a Logitech mouse that will not connect or keeps disconnecting

  1. Check power. Charge the mouse or replace its batteries, then switch it off and back on.
  2. Reconnect the receiver directly. Plug it into a working USB port on the computer rather than a hub, extender, or unsupported device.
  3. Try another port. If Unifying pairing failed on a USB 3.0 port, try a USB 2.0 port.
  4. Move the receiver closer. Keep it away from metal surfaces and likely sources of radio-frequency interference.
  5. Repeat the correct pairing process. Use the procedure for Bluetooth, Unifying, or Bolt that matches the mouse and receiver.

Logitech lists low batteries, moving a receiver between ports or computers, hubs or unsupported devices, metal surfaces, and radio-frequency interference among possible causes of a lost connection. For Unifying failures, Logitech also recommends checking whether the device appears in the computer’s device list and connecting the receiver directly rather than through a hub or extender. See Logitech’s connection troubleshooting guidance and its Unifying receiver port troubleshooting.

Choose a compatible replacement receiver

Before buying a replacement, identify the mouse model and connection system, then confirm Logitech says the mouse can pair with that receiver. A Unifying receiver is appropriate only for a Unifying-compatible mouse. Do not assume it will work with a Bolt or standard 2.4 GHz mouse. Logitech’s receiver guidance includes a replacement-receiver purchase path, but compatibility must be confirmed for the particular mouse.
