Bluehost AI Gateway gives eligible applications on Bluehost Self-Managed VPS and VDS a shared way to access supported large language models (LLMs) and pay for usage from one prepaid AI Credits balance. You buy credits, create an API key in your hosting panel, then configure a supported app to use the gateway. It does not manage your server’s operating system or applications, and it is not a dedicated on-server model.
What Bluehost AI Gateway does
AI Gateway is a route from supported apps to models offered by multiple providers. Bluehost lists models from Anthropic, Google and OpenAI, as well as providers including xAI, DeepSeek, Mistral, Kimi, GLM and MiniMax. The available models and apps can change, so check Bluehost’s AI Credits help page and AI Models and Credit Pricing page for the current catalog.
Bluehost describes the gateway endpoint as OpenAI-compatible. That provides a familiar API connection pattern, but it does not mean every tool that supports an OpenAI-style endpoint will work: the app must be eligible and configured for the gateway.

The service is intended for eligible applications running on Bluehost Self-Managed VPS or VDS. Bluehost’s help page lists OpenClaw, Hermes Agent, n8n, NanoClaw, Sim, Claude Code, GStack, Flowise, BMAD, GatorClaw, Open WebUI, Open WebUI + Hermes Agent, Ollama, Paperclip, Langflow and Dify. The product page has a shorter list, so confirm that your exact app is currently supported before planning a deployment.

Self-Managed hosting remains infrastructure-only. Bluehost maintains hardware, networking and virtualization; you manage the operating system, configurations and applications. AI Gateway supplies access to supported hosted LLMs. It does not take over server administration or provide dedicated GPU inference on your VPS/VDS.
How to connect an eligible app
- Buy AI Credits. Choose a one-time credit pack in the Bluehost account. Existing eligible VPS/VDS customers can add credits without purchasing another server.
- Create an API key. Open the VPS/VDS control panel’s AI Tooling area and create a Bluehost API key.
- Copy the key into your app. Configure the eligible application to use the Bluehost AI Gateway endpoint and the key, following that app’s setup instructions.
- Select a supported model. Use the current Bluehost model list and the app’s own provider/model settings to select a model the gateway supports.
- Monitor the balance and usage. The wallet is shared across qualifying VPS/VDS instances and API keys on the Bluehost account, so usage by one configured app draws from the same balance.
At launch, key creation and copying are manual. Bluehost’s September 11, 2026 launch article described automatic provisioning and injection as planned for a future release; it should not be assumed available in Release 1.
How AI Credits are priced
Bluehost’s AI Credits help page, updated September 16, 2026, lists these one-time prepaid packs. Prices are subject to change.

Bluehost lists each credit at a retail value of $0.010. Model usage is charged at different rates per million tokens, generally separating input from output and including cache-write or cached-input rates for models that support them. For example, Bluehost’s pricing table updated September 16, 2026 lists GPT-4o mini at 16.5 input and 66 output credits per million tokens; Claude Haiku 4.5 is listed at 110 input and 550 output credits per million tokens. These are model-specific listed rates, not a universal price per request, and rates can change.

To estimate a workload, identify the model, approximate both the tokens you send and the tokens it returns, and apply the respective input and output rates. Include cache rates only if the selected model supports caching and your usage will incur those rates. Consult the dated pricing table before purchasing; a credit pack does not correspond to one fixed number of prompts.
Balance sharing, expiry and refunds
- Shared wallet: eligible instances and API keys on the Bluehost account draw from the same balance.
- No subscription renewal: packs are one-time prepaid purchases, not a monthly plan or automatic renewal.
- 12-month validity: credits are valid for 12 months from the most recent purchase. A new purchase resets the validity period for the remaining balance.
- Expired balance: if credits expire without another purchase, the balance resets to zero; the API keys and workspace remain.
- No refunds or proactive alerts in Release 1: Bluehost says credits are non-refundable and that Release 1 does not send proactive low-balance or expiry email alerts.
Because the balance is prepaid and non-refundable, estimate likely use and check current terms before buying. Track the expiry date yourself rather than relying on an email warning.

Is AI Gateway a fit for your VPS/VDS project?
- It may fit if your app appears on Bluehost’s current eligible-app list, needs one of the currently supported models, and you want usage charged through a shared prepaid account balance.
- Check carefully if your app only accepts a particular provider’s endpoint, requires a model not on Bluehost’s current list, or depends on automatic key provisioning.
- It is not a substitute for managing your self-managed server, nor evidence of local model hosting or dedicated GPU capacity.
Bluehost product manager Ram Pramod characterized the launch as a way to consolidate model access, API keys and billing in one place. That is Bluehost’s description of the intended convenience; it is not independent evidence about setup time, performance or service quality.
