Asia’s AI buildout is expanding business across a hardware chain that includes chips, memory, packaging, servers and cooling. Taiwan and South Korea are home to prominent suppliers, and Wistron’s reported AI-server growth shows how the boom can reach beyond chip designers. But the available figures establish company growth and market exposure—not that a particular founder became a billionaire because of AI. Personal wealth claims need separate, current evidence.
AI hardware is a supply chain, not a single product
An AI data center depends on more than the accelerator named in a headline. Chips must be designed and manufactured, paired with memory, packaged and tested, then built into systems with the components, cooling and integration needed to operate them. Asian suppliers participate at several points in that chain, though their business models and ability to capture profits differ.
| Stage | What it contributes | Why it matters to AI infrastructure |
|---|---|---|
| Chip design | Designers develop AI accelerators and related processors. The OECD describes accelerator design as one of the central layers of AI infrastructure. | Design determines the processor’s capabilities, but the chip still has to be manufactured and assembled into a working system. |
| Foundry fabrication | Foundries manufacture chips from designs using advanced production facilities. | Advanced fabs are expensive, complex and take years to build, limiting how quickly capacity can expand. The OECD report cites 2024 estimates that TSMC controlled more than 60% of worldwide chip-manufacturing contracts and an estimated 90% of contracts for the most advanced chips; these are dated estimates, not current market-share measurements. |
| Memory | Memory suppliers provide DRAM and high-bandwidth memory (HBM), which the OECD identifies as important to AI systems. | Accelerators need high-speed memory to work on large AI workloads, making memory a distinct supply constraint and business opportunity. |
| Packaging and testing | Specialist firms and manufacturers package chips and test them before they are used in systems. | Advanced packaging capacity and high-end materials are among the constraints identified in Taiwan’s supply chain. |
| Components, servers and integration | Manufacturers assemble server systems and integrate hardware for customers. | This is where demand for complete AI systems can benefit firms outside chip design, while leaving them exposed to capital costs, customer demand and execution risk. |
| Cooling, edge platforms and factory integration | Taiwan’s industry includes cooling modules, edge AI platforms and factory system integration, according to Invest Taiwan. | These services and products help turn individual chips and servers into deployable infrastructure. |
The OECD’s overview of AI infrastructure and Robeco’s June 2026 analysis of Taiwan and South Korea describe different parts of this chain. The OECD report discusses design, foundries, memory, packaging and testing; Robeco’s analysis maps the wider ecosystem from chip design to server building. Neither makes every supplier interchangeable: each occupies a different position with its own supply-demand conditions, profitability and valuation.
Why Taiwan and South Korea matter—and why their roles differ
Taiwan is prominent across advanced manufacturing and packaging, high-end servers, cooling, edge AI and system integration. South Korea is especially visible in the AI hardware conversation through major semiconductor and memory companies. The countries’ firms have different exposures and financial profiles, so a rally in one supplier or layer does not establish that the entire regional chain is benefiting equally.

Invest Taiwan’s April 24, 2026 overview, attributed to the Industrial Technology Research Institute Industry Service Center Research Team, describes Taiwan’s ecosystem and identifies advanced packaging capacity and high-end materials as ongoing constraints. Those bottlenecks matter: strong demand can increase the value of scarce capacity, but constrained supply can also limit how quickly companies deliver and grow.
A Taiwan AI factory announcement is not proof of a completed project
In a May 18, 2025 announcement, NVIDIA said Foxconn, NVIDIA and Taiwan’s government were working on an AI factory supercomputer to be provided through Foxconn subsidiary Big Innovation Company. NVIDIA described a planned system featuring 10,000 Blackwell GPUs and said TSMC researchers planned to use it. These are announced plans and specifications; the announcement by itself does not establish that the system was completed, deployed or achieved particular performance.

Wistron shows how AI growth can reach a server manufacturer
Wistron illustrates how AI infrastructure demand can affect a company better known as an electronics manufacturer than as a chip designer. Fortune’s July 28, 2026 profile describes chair Simon Lin’s early partnership with NVIDIA and the company’s shift toward AI server systems. Fortune reported that Wistron had $70.2 billion in revenue in 2025, more than twice its prior-year revenue, and that servers made up 70% of sales. Those are company operating figures—not Lin’s personal wealth or a measure of how much profit Wistron earned from AI.

- ✅Enabling real-time, low latency and high-efficiency AI inferencing on the edge devices

Fortune also reported that NVIDIA had booked the capacity of Wistron’s new Zhubei server plant through 2026 at the time of publication. A reported booking is evidence of demand for that capacity, not a guarantee of future results. Building and operating capacity still requires investment, customer commitments and successful execution.
Lin told Fortune, “Even during dark times, you need to make yourself ready for any change in the future.” The profile presents that remark in the context of preparing Wistron for business shifts. It also describes Acer cofounder Stan Shih’s “smiling curve” idea: assembly and manufacturing in the middle of a supply chain can have lower margins than design and retail at its ends. That is a model, not a rule for every supplier. Wistron’s move into higher-value server systems may change its opportunity, but revenue growth alone does not show how much value it captures after costs and investment. Fortune’s profile provides the company context.

Company growth and personal wealth are different claims
Revenue measures money a company receives from sales over a period. A stock’s market capitalization is the market value of all its outstanding shares at a given time. Neither figure is the same as an executive’s net worth. Personal wealth estimates depend on a person’s ownership stake and other assets and liabilities; a rise in a company’s share price may affect the value of a stake, but it does not by itself establish its size, liquidity or an individual’s overall net worth.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFor that reason, saying that AI hardware is creating billionaire-level business opportunities is not the same as proving that AI made a particular person a billionaire. The figures available here do not provide current, comparable personal net-worth estimates or establish what portion of any individual’s wealth came from AI. They also do not substantiate the stronger causal claim that AI hardware alone made a named person a billionaire.

What market figures can—and cannot—show
Robeco reported in June 2026 that TSMC, Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix together represented around 30% of the MSCI Emerging Markets Index, using index weights for that period. This indicates the combined importance of those companies in that index at the time; it is not an estimate of their share of the entire AI market, nor a measurement of any founder’s wealth. Robeco also cautioned that the companies differ in supply-demand conditions, profitability, valuations and earnings expectations. Its June 2026 market data should not be treated as current October 2026 quotes.
Likewise, the OECD’s foundry-market estimates describe a dated measure of manufacturing contracts, not a company’s revenue, profits or personal fortunes. Each statistic answers a different question, so the underlying measure and date matter as much as the headline number.
How to judge which suppliers may benefit
AI spending can create opportunities throughout the hardware chain, but it does not guarantee that every supplier will grow profitably. A useful comparison considers:
Windows Errors? Fix Them Before They Spread
Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallCrashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minute- Value-chain role: Is the company designing chips, making memory, fabricating or packaging semiconductors, supplying components, or building and integrating systems?
- Customer and AI exposure: How concentrated are its customers, and how directly does its business depend on AI infrastructure spending?
- Capacity and bottlenecks: Can it meet demand, or are facilities, materials or specialist processes limiting output?
- Profitability and value capture: Does growth translate into earnings, or mostly into higher sales and investment requirements?
- Capital needs and execution: What must the company spend to expand, and can it deliver capacity and meet customer requirements?
- Valuation versus expectations: How does the share price compare with expected earnings, rather than with past performance alone?
These are analytical questions, not a recommendation to buy or sell a security. A strong AI narrative, large revenue figure or prominent index weight cannot replace company-specific evidence about profits, ownership and valuation.
