When a flight disruption affects Dubai, check the airline’s live status and contact the airline or ticket issuer first: those are the channels for current flight information and rebooking or refund options. At Dubai International Airport (DXB), Dubai Airports also sets minimum passenger-welfare expectations for airlines during disruptions. The precise options depend on the carrier, ticket, and itinerary; Dubai’s new aviation complaint service is a separate route for unresolved aviation consumer issues.
What to do when a Dubai flight is delayed or cancelled
Start with the airline’s official channel and Dubai Airports’ flight-status page before leaving for DXB. Dubai Airports’ lookup accepts an airline, city, or flight number, and its passenger guidance directs travelers to the airline for rebooking information.
- Check the live status: Use Dubai Airports’ flight-status page and the airline’s own app, website, or messages. Flight information can change, so check again before heading to the airport.
- Contact the right booking party: Ask the airline or, if an agent or partner airline issued the ticket, that ticket issuer what options apply. Do not assume another airline offers the same remedy.
- Keep a record: Save booking details, airline notices, and receipts for costs you incur. The applicable support and refund terms depend on the carrier, itinerary, and rules that apply to the journey.
- If you are already at DXB: Ask the airline representative for updates and assistance with rebooking, meals, or other welfare support during an extended disruption.
Dubai Airports’ passenger page is framed around the practical question, “What happens if my flight is delayed or cancelled?” Find it at Dubai Airports’ delayed or cancelled flight guidance.
What passenger support does Dubai Airports expect at DXB?
Dubai Airports’ Conditions of Use, in the October 2025 edition, set out minimum welfare expectations for airlines when disruption affects passengers at DXB. They are airport conditions, not a single refund policy for every airline or itinerary.
#1 Best Overall
- Updates: Airlines should provide regular updates every hour during delays. Disruption information should appear on airline digital channels and be sent by SMS or phone.
- On-site contact: An airline representative should be available during a disruption.
- Priority assistance: The conditions identify passengers with reduced mobility or special needs, unaccompanied children, senior citizens, and families with young children for priority.
- Rebooking and refreshments: Airlines should support rebooking and provide free meals and refreshments when a disruption exceeds three hours, reasonably related to the waiting time.
These expectations can help passengers know what to ask for while waiting at DXB. They do not establish a universal cash compensation amount, guaranteed hotel stay, or identical refund rights for all flights. See the Dubai Airports Conditions of Use for the airport’s terms.
Why the exact airline and ticket matter
Disruption remedies are not uniform. A schedule change well ahead of departure may be treated differently from a cancellation close to departure, and a ticket issued by an agent or partner airline may need to be handled by that issuer. Passengers connecting on separate tickets should not assume that one affected flight automatically changes the other booking.

Example: flydubai’s published policy
flydubai says it notifies passengers using the email address, phone number, or other contact details attached to the booking. Its published options vary by how close to departure a schedule change happens and how large the change is. In specified eligible cases, it offers free rebooking; qualifying refunds for passengers who do not travel may be issued as flydubai vouchers. If an agent or partner airline issued the ticket, flydubai tells passengers to contact that issuer. The airline also notes its policy does not remove statutory or regulatory rights that may apply to an itinerary.

Compare your options using these details
- Which airline operates the disrupted flight, and who issued the ticket?
- How soon is departure, and what schedule-change threshold does the airline’s policy use?
- Are the affected flights on one booking or separate tickets?
- Is the offered remedy a rebooking, cash refund, or voucher, and what restrictions apply?
- Does anyone on the booking need special assistance or priority support?
How disruptions affect Dubai residents, visitors, and businesses
Residents
A cancelled or delayed flight can disrupt a work trip, family visit, airport pickup, or the journey home. A change to one leg may also affect onward travel, especially when flights were booked separately. These are practical consequences of an itinerary disruption; the available official figures do not quantify individual residents’ costs.
Visitors
For arriving visitors, a delay can alter hotel arrival time, a connection, or onward transport. Check airline notices alongside Dubai’s official travel and tourism advisories when disruption affects Dubai operations. Dubai’s Department of Economy and Tourism has reported coordination with aviation and hospitality partners and flexible-booking measures by hotels during recent disruption; these are reported responses, not a universal hotel entitlement.
Businesses
Air-service interruptions can change the timing and flow of customers, staff, and cargo. Dubai’s reliance on air travel and visitor activity makes continuity relevant to companies across travel and hospitality, but the available official data do not establish losses for any particular business or quantify a disruption’s bill. Airport or visitor totals should not be treated as estimates of company revenue or household costs.

Dubai’s official figures document a sharp decline in airport traffic during regional airspace disruption, alongside the scale of the city’s aviation and visitor systems. They describe passenger volumes, not the financial impact on any particular traveler or company.
| Measure | Reported figure | What it indicates |
|---|---|---|
| DXB guests, Q1 2026 | 18.6 million, down 20.6% year over year | Quarterly airport traffic declined compared with Q1 2025. |
| DXB guests, March 2026 | 2.5 million, down 65.7% year over year | Dubai Airports attributed the decline to regional airspace disruption. |
| Dubai overnight visitors, January–August 2026 | 6.97 million | Visitor volume over the reported eight-month period. |
| DXB guests, 2025 | 95.2 million | Full-year airport traffic in 2025. |
| Dubai international overnight visitors, 2025 | 19.59 million | Full-year visitor volume in 2025. |
The 2026 figures were reported by Dubai Airports and Dubai’s Department of Economy and Tourism. The 2025 totals come from the same official reporting sources. Airport guests and overnight visitors are different measures and should not be added together as if they were a single count.

Dubai’s Department of Civil Aviation (DCAA) announced the Emirate of Dubai’s Aviation Consumer Welfare Directive in April 2026, along with an online service for aviation complaints and feedback. The service includes case tracking and DCAA mediation. The announcement describes the framework but does not set out every remedy, so it should not be read as a promise of a particular compensation amount or outcome.
For an immediate rebooking or refund request, begin with the airline or ticket issuer. For an unresolved aviation consumer issue, consult the DCAA Aviation Consumer Welfare service. Dubai Consumer Rights says airline companies are outside the jurisdiction of its general consumer complaint service, so that channel is not the appropriate route for an airline complaint. See Dubai Consumer Rights’ complaint information.
Quick Recap
Practical checklist before and during a disruption
- Check the airline’s official notices and Dubai Airports’ live status before travelling to DXB.
- Keep your booking contact details current so the airline can reach you.
- Ask the airline or ticket issuer to explain the applicable rebooking or refund terms; retain written messages and relevant receipts.
- If you are waiting at DXB, ask the airline representative about updates, rebooking, meals, and support, particularly if you or a companion needs priority assistance.
- Use DCAA’s aviation service for an unresolved aviation consumer issue; do not route an airline complaint through Dubai Consumer Rights’ general service.
