Google Ads’ AI campaign localization beta creates a separate campaign for another language or region. It translates campaign text and targeting, offers options for localized landing pages, and provides a review table with translations and English back-translations. The new campaign is published paused by default, so advertisers can check the copy, destination, settings, and compliance before enabling it.
What the localization tool changes
Google describes the beta as a way to localize an eligible Search campaign for a different language or region. It creates a new, independent campaign; Google says, “The original campaign is never modified.”
The tool translates campaign text and targeting, including headlines, descriptions, sitelinks, callouts, and keywords. For images containing text overlays, it can remove the original overlay and supply translated messaging as supplemental text assets. These changes help adapt campaign assets, but they do not establish that a product, promotion, or destination page is appropriate or available in the target market.
Choose how the landing page will be localized
The workflow offers two approaches to landing pages. They are alternatives to assess against the site and target market, not a universal ranking.
#1 Best Overall
| Approach | How it works | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Dynamic translation | A Google-provided JavaScript snippet dynamically translates landing-page text when someone clicks the ad. | Check that important page content is translated, accurate, and consistent with the ad and offer. |
| Update URLs | Change destination URLs manually or use a bulk find-and-replace rule. | Verify the replacement rule and confirm each URL reaches the intended localized page. |
In either case, inspect the destination itself. Translating ad assets does not confirm that the landing page, product availability, pricing, or offer is correct for the audience.
Review translations before launch
The review table shows the original asset, its translated version, an English back-translation, and translation notes. Advertisers can edit translated text directly in the table. The back-translation helps reveal how the translated wording reads in English, but Google’s documentation does not describe it as a substitute for review by someone familiar with the target market.
Rank #2
Work through the assets and compare each translation with the source. Pay particular attention to product and brand names, prices, promotions, qualifications, claims, and calls to action. Check terminology and image treatment for the intended language and region; seek appropriate local review when wording has legal or cultural consequences.

- Copy and claims: Confirm translated text preserves the source meaning and accurately describes the actual product and offer.
- Targeting: Review translated keywords and other targeting elements, along with campaign language and location settings.
- Destination: Test the localized URLs or replacement rule. If using dynamic translation, check that key content is translated and matches the ad.
- Budgets and bids: The tool copies these values exactly from the source campaign; it does not convert currencies or calculate exchange rates. Check that the copied amounts make sense in the destination market and currency context.
- Campaign status: The documented default is to publish the localized campaign paused. Confirm you are reviewing the intended new campaign and that its status is appropriate before launch.
- Policy and legal requirements: Google warns that generated assets are not guaranteed to be approved. Its guidance says advertisers should check accuracy, misleading content, Google Ads policies, and applicable laws before publishing. Its Performance Max policy guidance groups relevant requirements as prohibited content, prohibited practices, restricted content and features, and editorial and technical requirements.
Check language coverage and account eligibility
The Google Ads Help article lists English (US) as the supported source language. Listed target languages are Dutch, French, French (Canada), German, Italian, Polish, Portuguese (Brazil), Portuguese (Portugal/European), Spanish (Castilian/Spain), and Spanish (Latin American and Caribbean). Google says additional target languages are planned by the end of 2026. Because the feature is a beta and access may depend on eligibility and rollout, check whether it appears in your account rather than assuming it is available.
The same documentation describes support for Search campaigns and says Performance Max support starts in September 2026. As of October 4, 2026, that stated start date has passed, but the article does not establish that the feature is available to every advertiser or account; confirm campaign-type availability in the interface.
The source campaign must be active or paused. Removed, draft, experimental, and shadow campaigns are not supported. Campaigns must stay within entity-size limits, assets and keywords must use supported source language(s), and localization cannot proceed if the campaign includes unsupported languages. Election-verified customers are listed as ineligible.

Do not confuse localization with other Google Ads AI controls
AI campaign localization is a separate workflow from Performance Max generative asset creation and automated text customization.
Performance Max generative assets
In the Performance Max asset-generation workflow, Google can use a website and a product or service summary to suggest or generate headlines, descriptions, images, logos, business-name assets, and video assets. Advertisers can select, edit, or discard assets; the workflow is optional. Google says generated text is based on the language of the entered landing page, so changing that page to the desired language is currently required to change the generated assets’ language in that workflow. Google cautions that generated assets may be inaccurate or offensive and are not guaranteed to be approved. See Google’s Performance Max generative AI instructions.
Text customization and Final URL expansion
Performance Max text customization and Final URL expansion are campaign settings, not the localization flow. With Final URL expansion, Google may select a more relevant page from the site based on a user’s search and generate matching text. Advertisers remain responsible for reviewing landing-page content and dynamically generated assets for accuracy and compliance. Google documents controls to view or remove customized text assets and turn the feature off. Details are in About Performance Max campaigns and Controlling text customization in Performance Max campaigns.
Text guidelines
Google also documents beta text guidelines for Performance Max and Search campaigns with AI Max. These are campaign-level controls for refining automatically created text; they have limitations and do not replace review of published assets. See Use text guidelines with Performance Max and Search campaigns.
