Juan Hernández’s realistic take on Stitch and stylised interpretation of Samus show how one 3D artist is exploring two very different visual approaches. The Czechia-based visual development artist describes himself as passionate about both realistic and stylised art, and the four works featured in Creative Bloq and ImagineFX span original character designs as well as franchise adaptations.
Two familiar characters, two different design challenges
Hernández’s Realistic Stitch and Metroid Stylised are not presented as a direct comparison or as steps in a single production workflow. They illustrate the range he wants to explore: pushing complexity in one piece and rethinking a well-known character’s design language in another.
Realistic Stitch: a chance to push existing skills
Hernández calls Stitch one of his favourite characters and describes the project as an opportunity to tackle a complex character while building on what he had learned. In the Creative Bloq/ImagineFX feature, he says: “My take on one of my favourite characters of all time. It was also a great opportunity to make a complex character and push everything I’d learnt so far.”
Stylised Samus: exploring a more functional-looking suit
For Metroid Stylised, Hernández made a stylised adaptation of Samus. His stated aim was to explore a suit fitted to a human body, so it could look more functional. That is his design intention for this artwork, not a claim about real-world engineering or the design of Samus’s original suit.

- Figures have multiple points of articulation
- All figures are officially licensed.
He describes the idea this way: “A stylised adaptation of Samus from Metroid. I wanted to explore making a suit that fits a human body and therefore could look a bit more functional.”
Two original designs broaden the set
The feature also includes two original character concepts, making the selection more than a pair of fan-art projects.

Mermaid reimagined: combining references and recognizable cues
Hernández wanted to create his own mermaid design by mixing real-world references with elements that clearly signal the subject. As he explains: “For this, I wanted to make my own mermaid design. My approach was mixing real-world references with key elements that make up a mermaid.”
Bubbly: an animal-mixing sidekick concept
Bubbly is described as a small, crab-like creature built from a mix of animals and imagined as a sidekick for an animated feature. Hernández says: “This little guy is my own design. The idea was to mix a couple of animals and come up with a ‘sidekick-like’ character for an animated feature.”

What the projects say about Hernández’s approach
Rather than defining himself by one look, Hernández says he enjoys working across both. “I am passionate about both stylised and realistic art, so I like making stuff of all sorts,” he says in the feature. The four examples give that statement a concrete shape: an original design built from references, a creature concept aimed at a sidekick role, a stylised adaptation guided by body fit, and a realistic character study intended to challenge his skills.
The profile describes Hernández as a Czechia-based 3D visual development artist who began as a hobbyist before becoming a professional. It presents these projects as part of his effort to expand his artistic repertoire, not as evidence that he has adopted a particular production pipeline.
What is—and is not—known about the 3D workflow
The feature names Blender, ZBrush and Substance 3D Painter among Hernández’s tools. It does not state which software was used for each artwork, provide software versions or settings, or explain the projects’ modeling, sculpting, texturing or rendering steps. The tool list alone is not enough to attribute a specific image or task to a specific program.
