Hosting.com VPS can suit either a hands-on Linux administrator or someone who wants a provider-managed cPanel server, but those are meaningfully different services. The unmanaged option gives customers responsibility for server security, software, and backups; the managed option includes provider-side administration but does not offer the same root and operating-system control. Hosting.com advertises a 99.9% uptime SLA, but the available sources do not establish independently measured uptime or performance. Pricing and renewal costs also need to be confirmed for the exact plan at checkout.

What Hosting.com VPS offers

Hosting.com describes two distinct VPS approaches: unmanaged Linux VPS and managed VPS with cPanel. The choice is less about a single feature list than about who operates the server and how much control the customer needs.

Unmanaged Linux VPS

The provider advertises AMD EPYC processors, NVMe storage, redundant power and network uplinks, hardware RAID, ten global locations, and a 99.9% uptime SLA on its unmanaged Linux VPS page. Hosting.com also says its platform serves more than 3 million websites and 700,000 customers in over 180 countries. These are provider-stated figures and features, not independent performance findings. The 99.9% figure is an SLA, not a measurement showing how often servers were actually available.

Managed cPanel VPS

The managed offer is described as including provider-side patching, security updates, and server management, with cPanel access. Hosting.com says full root access and direct operating-system control are available through unmanaged or cloud options instead. These descriptions define the provider’s stated service boundary; confirm which tasks are included for the specific plan before purchase. See the managed Linux VPS page.

Managed or unmanaged: which fits?

Consideration Unmanaged Linux VPS Managed cPanel VPS
Server administration Customer handles installation, maintenance, security, firewalls, software, and backups. Provider describes patching, security updates, and server management as included.
Control Direct OS and root-level administration is aligned with the unmanaged service. cPanel access is offered; full root and direct OS control are described as available through unmanaged or cloud options instead.
Best fit Administrators able to operate and secure a Linux server, or willing to arrange that expertise. Customers who want provider involvement in routine server management and can work within the service’s control boundaries.
Backups Customer responsibility under the service terms. Backup scope, retention, and restoration arrangements are not established by the reviewed page; confirm them directly.

Hosting.com’s service terms state: “For all Unmanaged Hosting Services, you are solely responsible for providing the firewalls and software and for all installation, maintenance, security, and backup for the Unmanaged Hosting Services.” Read the applicable service terms and make sure the responsibility split matches your skills and operating plan.

How much does Hosting.com VPS cost?

A single current, generally applicable price cannot be established from the available listings. Prices may depend on plan, commitment, renewal, and add-ons, so treat third-party figures as examples rather than a checkout quote.

Source and date Published example What it establishes
HostAdvice, date not stated in the reviewed material Managed cPanel examples: 4 GB RAM, 2 cores, 100 GB space for $29; 8 GB RAM, 4 cores, 150 GB for $45; and 16 GB RAM, 8 cores, 300 GB for $70. The review says renewal prices are significantly higher and claims a 30-day money-back guarantee. These are third-party claims; current rates and refund eligibility require confirmation with Hosting.com’s checkout and terms. HostAdvice review.
BestHostLab, source check dated 2026-06-12 Self Managed Linux XS is listed at an effective $9.99 per month on a 12-month commitment, with $119.92 due at checkout. Renewal is marked “Not confirmed,” and several service or technical details are unconfirmed. This is a catalog listing, not a verified current official offer. BestHostLab catalog.

Before ordering, verify the billing term, amount due now, renewal rate, server location, included resources, and any paid additions on the final checkout screen. The provider’s terms describe Cloud VPS charges as accruing based on resources used and itemized on invoices; do not assume that billing description applies to a plan unless the product is identified as Cloud VPS. The terms also describe possible bandwidth-overage responses, including suspension, upgrade, fees, or termination. Confirm the rules that apply to the specific service and plan.

Reliability and performance: what can be concluded?

The 99.9% uptime figure on the unmanaged VPS page is an advertised service-level commitment. The reviewed sources do not provide independent uptime monitoring or a verified Hosting.com VPS speed benchmark, so they cannot establish typical availability, latency, or application performance. Review the SLA itself for exclusions and remedies; a headline percentage alone does not say what compensation or process applies after an outage.

Public complaints are individual accounts, not representative reliability data. In an August 2026 Reddit post, one customer alleged that an account became inaccessible on the invoice issue date before a stated renewal due date and said restoration and backup questions were unresolved when posting. A separate thread includes a report alleging a VPS outage lasting more than three days, alongside a different complaint about shared-hosting speed. These allegations are not independently verified, and shared-hosting experiences should not be attributed to VPS. They indicate questions worth asking about account access, incident response, and backups, but do not establish how often such problems occur or what a typical VPS customer experiences. What to verify before you commit

  • Resources: Confirm allocated CPU, RAM, storage, and bandwidth, and whether the plan’s billing is fixed or resource-based.
  • Administration: Ask which updates, security tasks, troubleshooting, and software changes are covered by managed service, and whether root access is included.
  • Backups and recovery: Establish who creates backups, how long they are retained, whether restores cost extra, and how to request a restore.
  • Location: Select a data center appropriate for your users; the provider advertises ten global locations, but the available source does not enumerate them.
  • Support: Check the plan’s support channel, coverage hours, and any response commitments rather than relying only on general support claims.
  • Contract and SLA: Confirm the initial term, renewal amount, cancellation and refund conditions, uptime exclusions, and SLA remedy.
  • Bandwidth terms: Verify any usage threshold and the consequences of exceeding it for the named product.

Verdict

Hosting.com VPS is most plausibly a fit when you can choose the right service boundary: unmanaged Linux for customers equipped to administer their own server, or managed cPanel when provider-side maintenance is more valuable than direct root and OS control. The advertised hardware and SLA are useful plan details, but they do not substitute for independent uptime evidence. Because available pricing examples are not a confirmed current checkout schedule, compare the final term and renewal cost before deciding.
