HostGator’s managed WordPress hosting bundles WordPress-focused tools, migration help, security features, and 24/7 chat and phone support. Its main drawbacks are pricing uncertainty and terms that need checking: promotional rates apply only to the initial term, the official price table’s current dollar amounts were not visible, and some features may depend on the plan. Before signing up, compare the renewal price and confirm the exact plan inclusions, backup terms, and any add-on charges.
What HostGator WordPress hosting includes
HostGator lists three managed WordPress tiers: Baby, Business, and Pro. Its feature descriptions include a free WordPress migration tool, managed WordPress updates, free Let’s Encrypt SSL, malware scanning, AI-powered malware detection and removal, a web application firewall, DDoS protection, Cloudflare CDN with Argo Routing, Yoast SEO, static and object caching, SSH and WP-CLI, and WordPress staging. HostGator also lists 24/7 chat and phone support. Because features appear across plan descriptions and comparisons, confirm availability for the tier you intend to buy on the official managed WordPress page and at checkout.
HostGator advertises 99.9% uptime on that page. This is the provider’s claim, not an independently verified measurement of how a particular site will perform.

The migration tool and managed updates are useful if you want help moving a WordPress site and prefer not to manage updates entirely on your own. The available information does not define the migration tool’s scope, such as how many sites it covers or whether every type of move qualifies. Confirm those details before relying on it.

Security, performance, and developer tools
The listed security features include SSL, malware scanning and detection, a web application firewall, and DDoS protection. Cloudflare CDN with Argo Routing and caching are also presented as performance-related features; SSH, WP-CLI, and staging may help with development and testing. These are feature listings, not evidence of a particular speed or security outcome. Check which are included in your selected tier.
Backups need clarification
HostGator describes “Courtesy website backups” and says backups run in the background. That description does not establish a specific schedule, how long backups are retained, what can be restored, or how restoration works. Ask HostGator for those terms for your plan, and maintain a separate backup arrangement if your site needs a defined recovery point and retention period.

How much does it cost, and what happens at renewal?
HostGator says limited-time promotional rates apply to the initial term only; the plan then automatically renews at the regular rate shown in the customer control panel. The current dollar amounts on the official pricing page were masked in the version accessed on October 7, 2026, so a live price cannot be established from that page here. Check the final checkout configuration and renewal terms rather than treating an advertised introductory rate as the long-term cost.

TechRadar’s review, dated November 26, 2025, gives one checked example for the basic managed WordPress plan: $3.50 per month over a three-year term, renewing at $16.49 per month. Those are figures from that review’s example, not a current universal quote. The review also cautions that domain, email, and CDN features may become paid add-ons after the first year. Confirm what is included and when charges begin for your own purchase.
Rank #3
Refund and domain terms
HostGator describes a 30-calendar-day money-back guarantee for hosting fees. It excludes renewals, monthly-term services, domain registration fees, setup fees, add-ons, and cancellations made after the 30-day window. A free-domain offer requires a qualifying 12-, 24-, or 36-month shared, WordPress, or cloud plan. The domain renews at its regular rate after the first year; if you cancel hosting during that first year but keep the domain, HostGator lists a $17.99 USD fee plus applicable taxes. Review the applicable terms before purchase on the HostGator pricing and terms page.
Pros and cons to weigh
| Potential advantages | Potential drawbacks |
|---|---|
| WordPress-oriented management, a migration tool, and managed updates are listed. | Feature availability should be checked for the selected tier; the migration tool’s exact scope is not stated in the reviewed material. |
| Security features, CDN, caching, staging, SSH, and WP-CLI are presented among the plan features. | The feature listings do not establish real-world performance or a particular security outcome. |
| HostGator lists 24/7 phone and chat support. | The reviewed material does not establish the quality or response time of support for a specific issue. |
| The provider describes background “courtesy” backups. | Backup frequency, retention, and restore scope are not specified by that description. |
| A free-domain offer is available with qualifying plans. | Eligibility, the regular renewal rate after year one, and the fee for keeping the domain after early hosting cancellation affect its value. |
| Introductory promotions may reduce the initial-term price. | Promotional pricing ends at renewal, and the current official price amounts were not visible in the page accessed for this article. |
TechRadar’s review says higher-value alternatives may compare favorably. That is the reviewer’s assessment, not a controlled comparison across every plan or workload, so use your own requirements and the full term cost to make the decision.

How to decide if it fits your WordPress site
HostGator is a plausible shortlist option if you want WordPress-focused management, migration tooling, and bundled support channels. It is less straightforward to assess if your decision depends on predictable long-term cost or clearly defined backup and restore guarantees. Compare candidate plans on equivalent terms rather than relying on a headline feature or introductory price.
- Total cost: compare the initial and renewal prices for the same term, then check whether domain, email, or CDN charges change after the first year.
- Plan scope: confirm the number of websites and resource allocation, along with which listed WordPress features apply to your tier.
- Recovery: ask for backup frequency, retention, restore process, and any limits on restores.
- Migration: verify what the free migration tool covers and whether your site qualifies.
- Support: consider whether phone and chat availability meet your needs; the listing alone does not establish expertise or response times.
- Exit terms: account for the money-back exclusions and domain renewal or retention costs.
For a live quote, use the official pricing page and inspect the checkout terms for the exact plan, term, and add-ons. TechRadar’s dated example can help illustrate why renewal math matters, but it should not substitute for that quote.
