Neither HostGator nor FastComet can be named the overall winner from the available evidence. FastComet publishes a clear shared-hosting price and storage table; HostGator advertises a longer shared-hosting refund window and daily backups. But there is no controlled head-to-head performance test or matched set of plan details here. Compare the complete initial-term charge, renewal amount, limits, backup terms, and refund eligibility for the plan you would actually buy. Prices below were captured on October 7, 2026, and can change with billing term and checkout details.

HostGator vs FastComet: what the evidence can establish

This comparison is about published claims and plan terms, not measured hosting performance. HostGator advertises a 99.9% uptime guarantee and daily automatic backups for shared hosting. FastComet publishes four shared tiers with promotional and regular rates, website limits, storage amounts, and a 30-day refund period. Those details help narrow a choice, but they do not establish that one provider delivers faster sites, more reliable service, or better support.

FastComet also has a HostGator comparison page that claims advantages including more server locations. That page is written by FastComet and hosted on a staging subdomain, so treat it as the company’s position rather than independent verification: FastComet’s HostGator comparison.

Which is cheaper after renewal?

FastComet’s pricing page listed the following shared-hosting rates on October 7, 2026. The promotional monthly rate applies to the first term; the regular rate is the published renewal rate. The actual charge depends on the billing term and checkout details, so compare the total due for the same term rather than treating monthly figures as directly equivalent.

FastComet shared plan Promotional rate Regular rate Websites NVMe storage
Starter $1.99/month $9.95/month 1 10 GB
Essential $2.99/month $12.95/month 1 20 GB
Plus $3.99/month $17.95/month Unlimited 30 GB
Extra $5.49/month $24.95/month Unlimited 40 GB

These are FastComet’s published plan limits, not a promise that sites will perform equally at those limits. See FastComet’s pricing page for the current offer and terms.

HostGator says promotional prices apply to the initial term and renewal is charged at the regular rate shown in the customer control panel. Its pricing page does not provide a verified, directly matched renewal amount for this comparison, so there is no sound basis here for declaring HostGator cheaper or more expensive after renewal. Before buying either service, check the term length, amount due today, renewal price, and any separately charged services.

How do the published refund terms compare?

HostGator advertises a 45-day money-back guarantee for shared hosting; FastComet lists a 30-day money-back guarantee on its shared plans. These are the providers’ stated windows, not a guarantee that every payment is refundable. HostGator says its guarantee covers basic hosting but excludes certain charges, including domain registration, setup, or additional services. Review the applicable contract terms for the plan and charges you select.

Does FastComet have better backups?

The available provider pages do not establish that. HostGator’s shared-hosting page promotes daily automatic backups, while its pricing page characterizes backups as a courtesy. FastComet’s comparison page claims free daily backups, and its pricing page lists a Restore Manager. Those descriptions do not show how the services compare in retention, downloadable copies, restoration fees, or recovery procedures.

Before choosing based on backups, ask each provider what is retained, for how long, whether you can download a copy, whether restoration costs extra, and how you request recovery. The published daily-backup claims alone do not verify that a backup can be restored successfully when needed.

Which host is more reliable or faster?

No performance winner is established. HostGator advertises a 99.9% uptime guarantee; that is a provider claim, not an independently measured result. FastComet markets performance features and server locations, and its comparison page claims it has more locations. That comparison is vendor-authored, and the evidence does not verify location counts across regions or show performance under matched plans and test conditions.

A meaningful comparison would require equivalent plans, configurations, test locations, and an observation period. Without that, neither an uptime guarantee nor marketing language about performance can answer which host will be faster or more reliable for a particular site.

Which host is better for a small business website?

For a small site, start with the needs you can count: number of websites, storage, budget across the full first term and renewal, and the support and recovery terms you need. FastComet’s published table makes those website and storage limits explicit. The captured HostGator pricing material does not provide a clean, matched shared-plan table for those same limits, so confirm its current plan details directly before treating the two offers as equivalent.

  • One website with a firm storage requirement: Compare that requirement against the FastComet tier limits and HostGator’s current plan specifications.
  • Several websites: FastComet lists unlimited websites on Plus and Extra; verify the provider’s full usage terms and compare HostGator’s applicable limits before deciding.
  • Business-critical recovery: Get the backup retention, restoration, and fee details in writing rather than relying on a daily-backup headline.
  • Choosing by price: Compare the same billing period, total first-term charge, renewal amount, and refund exclusions.

If the site needs more resources than shared hosting provides, compare equivalent VPS configurations and support responsibilities instead. FastComet offers managed cloud VPS, while HostGator lists several hosting types in its pricing material; the information here does not establish a like-for-like VPS price or capability comparison.

How to make the decision

  1. Choose the hosting type and minimum requirements your site needs, including how many websites and how much storage.
  2. Open each provider’s current plan and terms pages, then compare the same billing term and record the full initial charge and renewal amount.
  3. Check the refund scope, including which non-hosting charges are excluded and the deadline to request a refund.
  4. Confirm backup retention, copy access, restoration steps, and possible fees with the provider.
  5. Choose based on verified plan fit and contractual terms; do not treat promotional pricing or provider performance claims as proof of long-term value or measured speed.
