HostGator can be worth it for a beginner or small WordPress blogger who wants a WordPress-oriented setup and straightforward support. Whether it is worth the money depends mostly on what you pay after the introductory term ends, not on the teaser rate. The regular renewal price, the length of term you pay for upfront, and the features your specific plan includes decide the real cost. An independent 2025 test also recorded strong uptime and fast page rendering, but over a short window and on one test setup.

What HostGator’s regular prices cost

HostGator’s official hosting price chart, checked on 7 October 2026, lists the following regular prices in US dollars for its three WordPress plans. HostGator says you pay the full term upfront, so a three-year plan is one payment of $593.61, $791.61, or $1,068.81 depending on the plan.

Plan 1 month 1 year (total) 3 years (total) 3-year monthly equivalent
WordPress Baby $24.19 $224.27 $593.61 $16.49
WordPress Business $30.79 $290.27 $791.61 $21.99
WordPress Pro $38.49 $382.67 $1,068.81 $29.69

These are regular prices, not a guaranteed current offer. The monthly equivalent column is simply the three-year total divided by 36. A one-year Baby term at regular pricing works out to about $18.69 a month, which is a useful number to compare against any promotional figure you see.

Why the teaser rate is not your real price

HostGator says promotional rates apply to the initial term and then renew at the regular rate. Its price chart states the principle directly: “If you are on an introductory or discounted hosting plan rate, you will remain at that price until the hosting plan renews.” In practice, the discount covers the first term only. When that term ends, you pay the regular renewal amount for the plan and length you chose.

Before you pay, look at the order summary in checkout and the renewal amount shown for your account. Those figures are the ones that apply to your purchase, and they can differ from the chart above when an offer is running.

The free domain: what you must meet to qualify

The free domain offer is conditional. According to HostGator’s terms as published, it applies only when you buy an eligible 12-, 24-, or 36-month term on a Shared, WordPress, or Cloud plan. A few details matter after you sign up:

  • The domain renews at its regular rate after the first year.
  • If you cancel hosting within the first year, a non-refundable $17.99 domain fee may apply, plus any applicable taxes.
  • The offer is a first-year benefit, so a domain you intend to keep long term will cost the regular renewal rate from year two onward.

Features and trials attached to the plans

HostGator’s product pages advertise WordPress-oriented setup along with SSL, malware scanning, a content delivery network (CDN), managed updates, and support. Feature availability varies by plan, so confirm the exact list on the plan you choose rather than assuming every tier includes everything above.

The professional email add-on is handled differently. It starts as a one-month trial and then renews automatically at $2.99 per month unless you cancel before the renewal date. If you do not need business email, decline it at checkout. If you do, note the trial end date at signup.

What the 2025 performance test shows

TechRadar’s review, dated 26 November 2025, tested a site on a HostGator shared-hosting plan using a standard WordPress template. The reviewer monitored uptime with Uptime.com and page performance with GTmetrix. The reported results were:

  • Uptime: 99.63% over a 14-day test period.
  • Largest Contentful Paint (LCP): 0.551 seconds for the test site. LCP measures how long the largest visible element on a page takes to render.

These numbers are useful as one data point, but they have clear limits. Fourteen days is too short to serve as a long-term uptime estimate, so treat 99.63% as a snapshot of that window rather than a guaranteed service level. The LCP figure describes a lightly loaded template site; a blog with heavy plugins, large images, or steady traffic can perform differently. The review is also a single setup, not a controlled comparison of blogs of every kind.

How to compare HostGator with other hosts

The evidence available here does not establish how HostGator performs against other providers, so no universal winner can be named. A fair comparison should use the same criteria for each host:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Regular renewal price for the same term length, not the introductory price.
  • Included features, and the cost of any add-ons or trials.
  • Performance evidence, including how long the test ran and what kind of site was tested.
  • Support channels and how you reach them.
  • Whether you want managed WordPress convenience or a more hands-on shared-hosting setup.

Who should choose HostGator

HostGator fits a beginner or small blog owner who wants WordPress set up for them, is comfortable paying for a longer term upfront, and will read the renewal terms before checkout. It is a weaker choice if your main concern is the lowest renewal cost, if you need proof of performance over months rather than two weeks, or if you plan to add many features that may not be included in your plan tier.

Before you buy: a checklist

  1. Open HostGator’s hosting price chart and note the regular price for the plan and term you are considering.
  2. Choose the term length by comparing the total upfront cost with the monthly equivalent, keeping in mind that the regular rate applies at renewal.
  3. In checkout, confirm the renewal amount shown in the order summary.
  4. Check the plan’s feature list for SSL, malware scanning, CDN, managed updates, and support.
  5. Decline the professional email trial if you do not need it, or record its renewal date if you accept it.
  6. If you take the free domain, note the first-year cancellation date and the $17.99 fee that may apply if you cancel earlier.
  7. Recheck prices on the day you buy, because promotions and terms change.

Note: the performance figures above come from TechRadar’s November 2025 review and the prices from HostGator’s official chart checked in October 2026. Both are time-sensitive.
