The HONOR X5d s is an entry-level 4G phone whose standout feature is a small touch-enabled screen on the back. HONOR says it can help you frame selfies with the main rear camera and show some call alerts and media controls. Stuff South Africa reported a launch recommended retail price of R2,499, with nationwide availability from 7 October 2026; check local retailers for current pricing and stock.
What does the HONOR X5d s rear screen do?
The 2.01-inch secondary display has a resolution of 240 × 296. HONOR calls its functions “Rear-Display Touch Experience” and “One-Tap Selfie”: the company says you can use the rear camera to frame a selfie on the smaller screen, rather than relying on the 5MP front camera. HONOR also describes call alerts and media playback information with interaction controls.
These are manufacturer-described features, not independently tested findings. HONOR’s South Africa pages do not establish which third-party apps work with the display or how responsive it is in everyday use.

HONOR’s overview mentions a smooth refresh rate, but its headline says 90Hz while a note on the same page says support is up to 120Hz. The retrieved specifications page does not list a refresh-rate field. Because those published details do not agree, treat the refresh rate as unconfirmed for the exact South African configuration and check the live product information before relying on either figure.
Memory, storage and cameras: what the figures mean
“8GB” is not all physical RAM
The listed 8GB configuration is 4GB of physical RAM plus 4GB of RAM Turbo, HONOR’s expanded-memory feature. It is not 8GB of physical memory. The phone is listed with 64GB of internal storage, expandable by microSD up to 1TB according to HONOR; the card is sold separately.

- Network Compatibility: For USA Buyers - Only works with T-Mobile in the US, as it is not optimized for Verizon and AT&T. This means that as long as there's T-Mobile coverage, it'll work. For International Buyers - Works outside of the USA with any network provider without any restrictions
- Inner Display Specifications: 7.95 inch foldable OLED screen with 2352 x 2172 Pixels resolution and 1.07 billion colors for immersive viewing experience
- External Display Specifications: 6.52 inch OLED screen with 2420 x 1080 Pixels resolution and 1.07 billion colors for convenient access when folded
- Storage and Memory Capacity: 512GB internal storage with 16GB RAM for extensive app usage and multitasking performance
- Processor and Graphics: Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite (Gen 5) Mobile Platform with Adreno 840 GPU for high-performance computing and gaming
Camera resolution is not a quality guarantee
The rear camera is listed at 50MP and the front camera at 5MP. Those pixel counts do not, by themselves, establish how good photos will look: results can vary by camera mode and other conditions. HONOR lists 4x digital zoom and 1080p video support for the rear camera, and 1080p video recording support for the front camera.
Battery capacity and charging
HONOR lists a 6000mAh typical capacity and a 5850mAh rated capacity for the lithium-ion polymer battery, with 15W wired charging. The company notes: “This capacity is the nominal battery capacity. The actual battery capacity for each individual phone may be slightly above or below the nominal battery capacity.” A standard 15W adapter is market-dependent. These capacity figures are specifications, not a measured runtime; no independent battery test is established here.

Build, connectivity and what is in the box
The phone measures 168.3 × 78.5 × 8.72mm and weighs approximately 214g including its battery. Its IP52 rating, as listed by HONOR, is not a claim of waterproofing. Other listed hardware includes a side fingerprint sensor, USB-C 2.0, a 3.5mm headphone jack, Bluetooth 5.0, dual nano-SIM support and 4G LTE.
HONOR’s listed package includes the phone, charger, USB-C cable, quick-start guide and SIM eject pin. A TPU case and pre-applied screen film are included in the package description for some markets; box contents may vary by market. The listed standard 15W adapter is also market-dependent.

What to weigh before buying
- The rear display has a specific appeal: it may be useful if you want to frame selfies with the main camera or see the alerts and media controls HONOR describes. The manufacturer’s pages do not establish broader app support.
- Check the memory configuration carefully: 4GB is physical RAM; the other 4GB in the 8GB-equivalent figure comes from RAM Turbo.
- Plan for 4G, not a newer network generation: HONOR lists 4G LTE connectivity.
- Allow for optional storage: the phone’s listed internal storage is 64GB, and a microSD card for expansion is sold separately.
- Compare the current local price: R2,499 is reported launch recommended retail pricing, not confirmation of what a retailer charges now.
