Homey Pro mini is worth considering if your devices use Zigbee, Thread, or Matter and you can connect the hub to your router by Ethernet. It costs $249 in the US and includes Homey’s smart-home software features, but it lacks Wi-Fi, Z-Wave, Bluetooth LE, 433 MHz, and infrared. Check your device protocols before buying: some installations may need Homey Bridge or the more expensive Homey Pro (2026).
This review is based on Homey’s product, setup, pricing, and support documentation—not independent hands-on testing. Performance, reliability, and device compatibility claims below are attributed to Homey where applicable.
What Homey Pro mini supports
Homey describes Pro mini as a local-first smart-home hub. Its built-in connections are Ethernet, Zigbee 3.0, Thread border-router functionality, and Matter. Homey lists a 1.5 GHz quad-core ARMv8 processor, 1 GB of LPDDR4 RAM, and 8 GB of eMMC storage on its official product page.

Protocol labels do not guarantee that every device using that protocol will work with the hub. Check Homey’s App Store or the device maker’s compatibility details for the exact model before purchasing.

Radios it does not have
Homey’s model comparison says Pro mini does not include Wi-Fi, Z-Wave, Bluetooth LE, 433 MHz, or infrared. If a device requires one of those connections, the mini alone is not the right match. Homey Bridge is presented as an optional way to add Z-Wave, Bluetooth LE, 433 MHz, and infrared; confirm support for your region and devices before relying on it.
Does Homey Pro mini need Ethernet?
Yes. Homey’s setup guide requires a wired Ethernet connection to the router for setup and network access. It is not a Wi-Fi hub, so plan for a router port and a cable run to the location where you want to place it.

Homey lists a power adapter, USB-C to USB-C cable, Cat5e Ethernet cable, and quick-start guide in the box. Setup is completed by powering the hub and pairing it through the Homey app.

The right choice depends mainly on the protocols you use, whether you can wire the hub to your router, and whether you want to buy hardware. The table reflects Homey’s published specifications and current listed prices.

Prices for Pro mini and Pro (2026) are the current US list prices following Homey’s June 1, 2026 update; check checkout for current local pricing. Homey’s pricing notice gives regional Pro mini prices effective that date: €279 in Europe, CA$349 in Canada, £249 in the UK, NOK 2,639 in Norway excluding VAT, SEK 3,299 in Sweden, and DKK 2,249 in Denmark. Homey attributed the change to higher RAM and eMMC component and production costs.
What the memory difference means
The mini has 1 GB RAM, compared with 4 GB in Homey Pro (2026). Homey says users typically install around 14 apps and describes the mini as sufficient for most households in its worldwide availability announcement. That is a vendor-reported typical-use figure, not an independently tested maximum or a guarantee about how many apps a particular setup can run. If your installation depends on many integrations or complex automations, Homey’s published figures alone do not establish how it will perform.

When Homey Cloud may fit better
Homey Cloud avoids buying a hub and is offered as a subscription. Its current subscription terms and feature details are not stated in the cited product information, so compare those directly with Homey’s current offer before making a long-term cost comparison.
What is included—and what Homey claims
Homey lists Advanced Flow, Energy, Dashboards, Insights, remote access, the App Store, and voice-assistant integrations among the Pro mini features. Homey says the hub processes operation locally and uses cloud services only when necessary. Its product page states: “Homey Pro mini runs entirely on-premise, ensuring minimal latency and maximum reliability while using the cloud only when necessary.” This is Homey’s product claim, not an independently measured result.

Homey Support says Pro mini receives software updates through at least June 2031 under the support horizon extended to the Pro family. That is a current manufacturer support commitment; it does not promise that every future feature will be available on the mini.
Do you need Homey Bridge with Pro mini?
Not if your required devices are supported through the mini’s built-in Zigbee, Thread, or Matter connections and your network setup can use Ethernet. Consider Bridge if your devices require Z-Wave, Bluetooth LE, 433 MHz, or infrared. Before adding it, check the exact device and regional radio availability: Bridge extends the hub’s capabilities, but it adds another device and cost.
Is Homey Pro mini worth it?
- A good fit: You use supported Zigbee, Thread, or Matter devices, want a dedicated Homey hub, and can connect it to Ethernet.
- Look at Homey Pro (2026): You need its additional built-in radios, want Wi-Fi, or prefer the model with more memory.
- Check Bridge first: Your installation depends on Z-Wave, Bluetooth LE, 433 MHz, or infrared and you want to see whether an add-on suits your region and devices.
- Consider Homey Cloud: You want to avoid buying hardware and are comfortable evaluating a subscription instead.
The available product and support materials do not establish independent test results for latency, reliability, app capacity, or long-term performance. Treat those aspects as unverified rather than assuming Homey’s marketing claims apply equally to every home and setup.
