A home racing simulator setup combines the controls, game platform and mounting arrangement you use to drive from home. The core controls are a wheelbase, steering wheel and pedals; you also need a compatible PC or console and a screen to run and view the game. You can clamp the controls to a desk, use a separate wheel stand, or build around a cockpit with its own seat. The right choice depends on platform compatibility, available space, driver fit and how firmly the controls need to be mounted.
What do you need to start sim racing at home?
The essential physical controls are a wheelbase, steering wheel and pedals. Fanatec describes those three components as the minimum driving simulator setup for desk use in its setup guidance. You also need a compatible computer or console and a monitor or television to run and see the game.
- Wheelbase: the unit that provides steering input and, on supported products, force feedback.
- Steering wheel: the part you hold and turn; its compatibility can depend on the base and platform.
- Pedals: the accelerator and brake, with a clutch available on some setups.
- Game platform and display: a compatible PC or console, plus a monitor or television.
A shifter, handbrake or upgraded pedals are optional additions, useful only if your games and preferred driving styles call for them. Logitech G’s driving products page shows examples of configurable controls and accessories; it does not establish a universal parts list or all-in budget.

The mounting choice determines how the wheel and pedals relate to your seat, how readily you can store the setup, and how solid the driving position feels. There is no universally best format.
#1 Best Overall
- 【Adjustable】The height of the steering wheel stand is fully adjustable. It fits the height of any user. The shifter can be mounted on the left or right side, the height can be adjusted so you can easily choose according to your driving habits. The shifter can also be adjusted back and forth, and there are four holes for distance adjustment. The back angle of the chair can be adjusted
- 【Stable】There are eight rubber feet at the bottom of the steering wheel stand to firmly grip the floor, which can protect the floor and the steering wheel stand is more stable. Under the intense action, there will be no big shake. The racing sim stand is made of carbon steel, which is a stable rigid frame that can be easily assembled by anyone
- 【Features】Each adjustment point is protected from wear and tear. The surface of the steering wheel stand is made of thick protective paint, which is very smooth and not easy to rust and lose color. It is also very easy to clean and can be wiped directly with a damp rag
- 【Compatible 】Our racing sim cockpit fits most major brands of steering wheels, pedals and shifters, fit for Logitech G25 G27 g920 g923, for Fanatec, for Thrustmaster T300rs TX f458 T500rs. Can support drilling installation without affecting the use
- 【 Note】Wheels, shifter, and pedals are not included. There are two packages of our seat and stand, which may not be delivered at the same time
| Format | Best suited to | Main consideration |
|---|---|---|
| Desk clamp | Starting with limited space and using an existing desk and chair. | Compact and easy to put away, but the desk, chair and pedal position may make for a less consistent driving posture than an integrated cockpit. Fanatec setup guidance describes desk use. |
| Wheel stand | Using a separate, purpose-built wheel-and-pedal mount that can be stored when not in use. | You still use a separate chair; verify the stand’s fit and stability with your specific controls. The cited guidance establishes it as an option but gives no comparative measurements. Fanatec setup guidance. |
| Compact or foldable cockpit | Needing a seat and mounted controls in a small or shared room. | Storage is a priority, so check the model’s support and stability for your wheelbase rather than assuming every foldable frame suits every setup. Playseat cockpit guidance. |
| Dedicated cockpit | Having room to leave a rig assembled and wanting an integrated seat and adjustable control positions. | A fixed rig can provide a more consistent position, but footprint, driver fit, hardware compatibility and adjustment still matter. Fanatec setup guidance and Playseat cockpit guidance. |
How do you check wheel and console compatibility?
Choose the target platform first: PC, PlayStation or Xbox. Do not infer console support from a manufacturer’s name alone. Fanatec says PC compatibility across its range is broad, while console compatibility depends on licensed bases, wheels and their specific combination. Check the platform labels for the exact products and combination you intend to use in Fanatec’s compatibility guidance.
Then confirm that your wheelbase, wheel and pedals work together as a set on that platform. A component may physically connect without providing the platform support or functionality you expect, so verify the individual model details rather than relying on a general brand-level claim.

How do you choose a cockpit that fits?
Check fit at three levels: physical mounting, ergonomic positioning and stability during use. A mounting-hole match alone does not establish that the rig will feel planted when steering or braking.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- Verify mounting: confirm that the cockpit accepts the specific wheelbase and pedal hardware.
- Check driving position: make sure the seat-to-wheel and seat-to-pedal distances adjust to your body. If more than one person will use the rig, check that each can reposition it comfortably.
- Match frame stiffness to the wheelbase: consult guidance for the exact cockpit model and intended hardware. Playseat says it does not recommend Direct Drive setups on its Challenge models; this is model-specific guidance, not a rating of all folding rigs. See Playseat compatibility information.
- Plan for accessories and space: check for mounts if you need a shifter or handbrake, then measure the assembled footprint and storage space.
Playseat’s cockpit guidance discusses fit and stability considerations. Apply the advice to the named model rather than treating it as a universal comparison of cockpit designs.

What should you settle before buying?
- Which platform you will use, and whether the exact wheelbase-and-wheel combination is labeled compatible.
- Whether you want to use a desk and chair, store a stand, fold a cockpit, or leave a dedicated rig assembled.
- Whether your chosen mount can hold your wheelbase and pedals steadily during steering and braking.
- Whether the seat, wheel and pedals can be adjusted for your height and any other drivers.
- Whether you need accessory mounts for the games you play.
Prices and availability vary by region and change over time. A configurable product page is not a reliable basis for a universal setup budget, so check current local listings and confirm what each bundle includes.
