On the published specifications alone, the Lowe’s Haunted Living 15-foot Watcher is the taller decoration, and the Home Depot 12-foot Skelly is the one with more documented app control, sound, and eye options. Neither product can be declared the better yard piece from listing details alone. Whether the extra three feet justifies the setup and storage burden depends on your yard and your storage space, and the points below help you test that for yourself.
This comparison draws on the two retailers’ product pages, Home Depot’s 2026 collection announcement, and the box-size and comparison details visible in a Tom’s Guide yard-test summary dated October 8, 2026. Tom’s Guide’s full hands-on verdict is not reproduced here, so check its complete article before treating any winner as settled.
Side-by-side specifications
The two products take different approaches. The Skelly is built around app control and a face that talks back. The Watcher is built around height and a scanning head with lit eyes.

Height versus footprint
Fifteen feet is 25 percent taller than twelve. That difference matters most in a yard with tall trees, a two-storey façade, or a sightline from the street. It matters less in a narrow front bed, where the base footprint and the wind load on the head are the limiting factors rather than the top-end height.

The storage picture is the less obvious trade-off. Tom’s Guide’s summary reports the Home Depot box at 40 × 44 × 27 inches and says the Lowe’s box is about two-thirds that size. Those are box dimensions, not assembled dimensions, so they tell you what has to fit in a garage or shed, not how much ground the figure occupies when it stands. Measure the storage spot you have before you buy, and remember that a box that fits in one season’s shed may still need a dry, upright place to keep the electronics from being crushed or damp.
Animation, sound and lighting
The Skelly has the more documented interactivity. Its app controls the motion, its LCD eyes cycle through 20 variations, and its 30 recorded sounds can be combined with a live voice-changing mode, which lets someone talk through the figure in real time. That feature is a real yard-party draw, but it also depends on a phone and a working connection.

The Watcher’s effects are simpler on paper: a side-to-side turn, LED eyes with a sweeping effect, and phrases and spooky sounds. Its activation options are also more flexible in a practical sense. Because motion or sound can trigger it, it can respond to trick-or-treaters without a phone. If you want that trigger, plan on buying the footpad or button separately.

The Watcher ships with a 5.9V 3A DC adapter, so it must sit within reach of an outdoor outlet or a cord run you have planned. The Home Depot listing details reviewed here do not state the power requirements for the Skelly, so read the manual before you buy. Do not assume that either product is weatherproof for a storm simply because it is sold for outdoor use. The retailer’s “outdoor-rated” language is not evidence of performance in wind or rain.

Price: what is and is not established
The Home Depot product listing shows the Skelly at $379. The Home Depot 2026 collection announcement says customers can find the original Skelly in stores at $299. Those figures conflict, and the evidence does not show which model the announcement means. Confirm the exact model and the price at your store or online before comparing costs. No Lowe’s price for the Watcher was recorded in the page content reviewed, so check the current listing directly. Prices and stock change quickly during the Halloween season.
Setup and anchoring: what to check yourself
Hands-on setup time, helper needs, and anchoring stability are the points that most affect whether a giant skeleton is pleasant to own, and they are not established by the listing pages. If you are weighing the two, test these points against your own situation:
- Count the people you need for assembly and check whether the instructions call for a second person to raise the figure.
- Measure the base footprint against your planting bed or porch, and leave clearance for the head to move.
- Plan how you will anchor the figure against gusts, using stakes, weights, or a guy-line, and check that the anchor points are accessible in your yard.
- For the Watcher, plan the cord route from the adapter to the outlet and keep the connections off wet ground.
- For the Skelly, confirm the phone or app setup works where you plan to place it, since its motion and voice features depend on it.
- Plan storage in advance: keep the electronics dry, store the head and limbs in their original packaging if possible, and remember that the box is larger for the Skelly.
Which one to choose
Choose the Watcher if you have a tall yard or a strong sightline, want a figure that reacts to trick-or-treaters without a phone, and can handle the adapter and a possible footpad purchase. Choose the Skelly if you want the most documented controls, the widest range of eye and sound options, and live voice-changing, and if you have room for a larger box and a reliable phone connection. Whichever you pick, buy after you have confirmed the price, measured the storage space, and read the power and anchoring instructions in the product documentation.
