Home Assistant 2026.10 is reported to add Matter controls for leak-sensor alarms and a smart-lock keypad preference, plus frequency and power-factor readings for devices that expose those measurements. These controls are conditional: Matter compatibility alone does not guarantee they will appear for a particular device. The detailed feature account describes a beta, not a confirmed stable release.

What changes in Home Assistant 2026.10?

A beta report published October 1, 2026, describes several new Matter-related settings and readings. Home Assistant’s stable 2026.10 release was expected on October 7, but that date is not confirmation that the release occurred or that the beta details remained unchanged. The report warns that features could change or be removed before stable release. See the Matter Alpha beta report for its feature account.

Device or feature What the beta report describes Important qualification
Matter leak sensors Separate settings for audible and visual alarms The report names IKEA KLIPPBOK and Shelly Flood as tested examples; it does not establish universal compatibility.
Matter smart locks A setting for whether one keypad touch can lock the door No tested lock model or complete compatibility list is provided.
Electrical measurements Frequency and power factor readings These appear only for devices that expose the relevant measurements.

What the leak-sensor controls do

On supported Matter leak sensors, the reported settings let you configure audible and visual alarm behavior independently. They are configuration controls, not buttons for manually sounding an alarm. The report identifies IKEA KLIPPBOK and Shelly Flood as examples its author tested, not as a complete list of compatible sensors.

Before relying on either setting, check whether your exact sensor exposes it in the Home Assistant version you run. Also consider how that sensor joins your existing Matter network; the report does not compare connection methods, reliability, or individual models.

Aqara Water Leak Sensor 3 Pack, Zigbee Water Leak Detector for Alarm System
  • [Notes] An Aqara Hub is required and sold separately. Not compatible with hubs from other brands. Requires a secure 2.4GHz Wi-Fi connection for Hub M2, M1S, E1, M1S Gen2, G2H Pro, and G2H; or 2.4/5GHz Wi-Fi for Camera Hub G3. (Hub M2 also supports wired Ethernet via RJ45.). Pair the Zigbee Water Leak Sensor with an Aqara Hub before connecting to Apple HomeKit, Google Home, or Alexa. For a stable Zigbee connection, ensure the sensor is placed within 10 meters(33 ft) of the Aqara Hub.
  • [Proximity] To ensure a stable connection, keep the Aqara Water Leak Sensor within 400 inches (approximately 10 meters) of the Aqara Zigbee Hub, and place the hub within the same range of your Wi-Fi router. Ensure both are connected to the same local area network (LAN). Zigbee2MQTT and comparable third-party USB dongles are not officially supported by Aqara. Full product functionality may be limited or unavailable.
  • [Drip and Leak Detection] Equipped with highly sensitive probes that detect water levels as low as 0.5 mm (approximately 0.02 inch), this water leak detector instantly sends alerts to your phone and triggers the local alarm on the Aqara Hub whenever a leak is detected.
  • [Home automation] The water leak detectors for home can control and trigger other Aqara devices when water is detected, allowing you to take prompt action to keep your home safe. ***Requires Aqara Hub, not third-party hub.
  • [Wireless & Compact Design] No wiring or screws are required. The small, sleek design allows you to place the Zigbee leak sensor on any flat surface in your kitchen, basement, laundry room, or any area you want to monitor. Recommended placements include near or under toilets, water heaters, washing machines, dishwashers, sinks, fish tanks, sump pumps, or any area prone to leaks.

What the smart-lock setting does—and what is unknown

The reported lock change is a preference for whether a single keypad touch locks the door. It is not evidence that every Matter lock will show the setting, nor does the report identify a tested lock model or provide a compatibility list. Confirm that your exact lock supports Matter and exposes this preference in the final Home Assistant release before depending on it.

When frequency and power factor appear

Home Assistant 2026.10 is reported to add frequency and power factor readings for Matter devices that make those electrical measurements available. No specific device model is named. If these values matter for your monitoring setup, verify that the device reports them through Matter rather than assuming they are available because it is Matter-compatible.

THIRDREALITY Smart Water Leak Sensor KM1, Matter Over WiFi, 1 KM1-controller with 100dB Alarm & 3 Water Detectors, 3-Year Battery Life, No Batteries, Work with Apple Home, Alexa, Home Assistant, Homey
  • Matter Certified Compatibility: THIRDREALITY's Smart Water Leak Sensor KM1 has been certified by the Matter protocol. Utilize Wi-Fi Matter to seamlessly connect with your local Matter Controller, such as Home Assistant(ZHA&Z2M), Homey, Apple Home, or Echo devices. This ensures seamless connection and simplifies the setup process, eliminating compatibility issues. Note: 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi and Matter Controller Required
  • Plug-and-Play, Quick Deployment: The controller unit comes standard with a Type-C power cable (5V) and is pre-bound to 3 sensors at the factory (supports up to ten water leak sensors). Once the controller is paired, the three pre-installed sensors will become operational immediately. Users can also set up automated notifications via the mobile app to receive real-time alerts, ensuring dual protection both locally and remotely
  • Loud Alarm with Mute: When a sensor detects water leakage, the controller triggers a powerful 100dB local alarm—loud enough to be clearly heard even in distant or enclosed spaces like basements. If needed, you can easily silence the alarm by sliding the controller switch to the right, instantly muting the sound without interrupting detection
  • Great Range & Long Battery Life: The controller features a powerful signal with a range of up to 328 ft (100 m) in open areas. Each water leak sensor is powered by two AAA 1.5V alkaline batteries, which can last up to 3 years under typical usage, eliminating the need for frequent replacements. The battery compartment is also designed for easy access (Batteries not included)

Other changes mentioned in the beta report

The report also describes a People, Devices, and Zones overview for the Map dashboard, trigger selection within a “Triggered by” condition in the automation editor, and fixes related to Matter setup and device information. These are separate from the device controls and electrical readings above.

How to check whether the controls apply to your device

  1. Identify the exact model of your leak sensor, lock, or electrical-monitoring device; category-level Matter support is not enough to establish that a particular control is available.
  2. Check Home Assistant’s final 2026.10 release notes and your device’s exposed Matter controls after updating. The feature details cited here come from a beta account and may not match the stable release.
  3. For a leak sensor, look for separate audible- and visual-alarm settings. For a lock, check for the one-touch keypad-locking preference. For electrical monitoring, confirm that frequency or power factor is actually reported.
  4. If a control is absent, do not infer that your device is faulty: the beta report makes availability dependent on what the device supports and exposes.

What the available evidence does not establish

  • A complete list of compatible leak sensors or smart locks.
  • Model-by-model comparisons, independent reliability results, or prices.
  • That every device in a Matter product category will expose the new settings or readings.

For context only, Home Assistant’s official 2026.6 release notes describe Matter as an open-source standard for controlling smart-home devices and document earlier Matter setup improvements and Matter siren entities. Those earlier notes do not verify the 2026.10 beta features.
