It launched in the US in 2024 with Android 14 and 4G connectivity. Verizon currently lists the 128GB unlocked model at an estimated $149.99.

What the $150 phone does well
A smoother-than-basic display
The 90Hz refresh rate makes scrolling and animations look more fluid than on a typical 60Hz budget handset. The trade-off is resolution: this is an HD+ panel rather than a sharper Full HD+ display, and WIRED described it as dim.
Enough performance for everyday use
Its Snapdragon 680 and 6GB of RAM are aimed at routine tasks such as messaging, web browsing, streaming and light apps. WIRED reported that the phone felt fairly smooth after setup, while rating it 5/10 overall. There is no independent benchmark or battery-test result established for this model here.
Practical hardware extras
A 3.5mm headphone jack lets you use wired headphones without an adapter, and the microSD slot gives the 128GB phone more room for photos, music and downloads. USB-C is used for charging and data.

Where the compromises show
No 5G, NFC or fingerprint reader
The Vibe is a 4G phone, so it cannot use 5G networks. It also omits NFC, ruling out contactless payments, and has no fingerprint sensor; unlocking relies on other Android methods such as a PIN or face-based option if enabled.
Basic cameras and charging
The 13MP rear camera, 2MP depth sensor and 5MP selfie camera are entry-level hardware. Expect basic snapshots rather than strong low-light, motion or video results. The 10W wired charging rate is modest, so charging is slower than on many newer phones.

- Turns heads with its refined lines and cutting-edge design
- 50 MP on both rear and front cameras? Perfectly balanced, as all things should be
- Taking selfies has never been easier with the selfie gesture function
- Relax. You've got plenty of time between charges with up to 59 hours
- International version. Unlocked for use with your chosen carrier. Please confirm compatibility with your carrier.
Shorter software runway
HMD shipped the Vibe with Android 14 but did not promise Android OS version updates. WIRED reported two years of security updates. That policy matters more than the launch price if you plan to keep the phone for several years or need the latest Android features.
Is the HMD Vibe worth $150?
It can be worth $150 when the priorities are low upfront cost, a 90Hz screen, a headphone jack and expandable storage. It is a poor fit if 5G, contactless payments, fingerprint unlocking, camera quality or multi-year Android upgrades are essential.

Price and availability
US launch coverage in 2024 put the HMD Vibe at about $149-$150, with availability through HMD, Best Buy and Amazon. Verizon’s current product page lists an unlocked 128GB version at an estimated $149.99 (listing accessed in 2026). Amazon was named as a launch retailer, but its current seller, stock and price were not verified, so check those details before ordering. Search for the HMD Vibe unlocked or HMD Vibe 128GB listing and confirm that it is the unlocked US model, the storage capacity you want and the retailer’s warranty and return terms.
Key checks before buying
- Confirm that your carrier supports the Vibe’s 4G LTE bands and that you do not require 5G.
- Verify the listing says unlocked and identifies the 128GB US version.
- Check the current seller, inventory, return window and warranty, especially on marketplace listings.
- Make sure the lack of NFC and a fingerprint sensor will not disrupt your payment or unlocking routine.
- Plan for the stated security-update window, since no Android OS upgrades were promised.
Bottom line
The HMD Vibe delivers a 90Hz display, Snapdragon 680 performance, 128GB storage with reported microSD expansion and useful wired-audio support at a very low price. Its 4G-only modem, dim HD+ screen, basic cameras, missing NFC and fingerprint reader, slow 10W charging and limited update commitment define the trade-off. At $149.99, it is best treated as an inexpensive everyday phone, not a future-proof upgrade.
