The Hitachi HRBN6340EXAU is a 600mm-wide Pearl Steel bottom-mount refrigerator with three freezer drawers, a dedicated dairy chiller and a manufacturer-listed capacity of 323L. Its published specifications look useful for shoppers seeking a relatively narrow fridge, but the available review evidence does not establish how well it performs in independent testing: CHOICE says it tested the model in 2025, while its detailed results are restricted to members.

Capacity and interior layout
The main capacity caveat is that the two published totals do not match: Hitachi states 323L, while CHOICE reports 321L. Both sources list 233L for the fridge and 90L for the freezer, and the available information does not explain the two-litre discrepancy. Treat capacity as a claimed specification rather than a settled, independently reconciled measurement.
Inside, Hitachi lists four refrigerator shelves, three of them height-adjustable, plus a humidity-controlled Max Fresh crisper and a slide-out dairy compartment specified for 0°C–5°C. The freezer has three drawers. A movable ice box/tray and double-twist ice maker provide manual ice storage and production rather than a listed automatic dispenser.

Cooling features and controls
Hitachi describes dual cooling as separate systems for the refrigerator and freezer. The company says this maintains airflow and temperatures in both compartments; that is manufacturer feature wording, not an independent finding about food preservation. Other listed features include an active odour filter, mould-free door gasket and side-wall LED lighting.

The cabinet measures 600mm wide, 670mm deep and 1720mm high. Those figures describe the listed product dimensions, not the full space needed for installation. The September 2024 specification sheet includes suggested clearance labels and illustrates a 130-degree door-opening arc; use the current manual and installation guidance to verify the actual clearance requirements for your site.

- Measure the available width, depth and height, and allow the clearances required by the current installation instructions.
- Check that the door can open through the needed arc without striking a wall, island or nearby appliance, and that shelves and drawers remain usable when it is open.
- Measure the route from delivery access to the kitchen, including doorways, turns and stairs. The listed product weight is 66kg net and 70kg gross.

Energy use and noise: what the figures mean
Hitachi publishes an energy rating of 3.5 stars, annual consumption of 321kWh at 32°C and noise of 40dBA. These are manufacturer specifications, not measurements made for this article. CHOICE’s visible model page also lists a 3.5-star rating and 321kWh/year, but the detailed test results are not available on the page without membership.
When comparing models, compare energy ratings and annual consumption on the same basis, and consider how the fridge’s stated dimensions and layout fit your needs. The published noise figure alone does not establish how noticeable the appliance will sound in a particular kitchen.

CHOICE labels the HRBN6340EXAU as tested in 2025. Its accessible page does not show detailed performance scores, such as temperature results, noise-test outcomes, or reliability and satisfaction scores, so the visible information is not enough to say that CHOICE recommends the model or to rank it against alternatives. It does report 321L total volume, which differs from Hitachi’s 323L listing.

The model is worth considering if you need a bottom-mount refrigerator with a listed width of 600mm and prefer three freezer drawers and a dedicated chiller compartment. Whether its capacity is sufficient depends on your household and storage habits; the available evidence does not support a specific household-size recommendation.
