The Hisense PX3-PRO is a 4K ultra-short-throw projector that can put a very large image close to a wall, but its best results still depend on room lighting, careful placement and a suitable screen. Independent reviewers found it capable with both movies and games; its key trade-offs are a less automated setup, no VRR, and bright scenes that look flatter than dark ones.
This review distinguishes Hisense’s published specifications from findings reported by RTINGS and What Hi-Fi?. Prices and stock vary by market and date, so check local terms before buying.
What the Hisense PX3-PRO offers
Hisense announced the PX3-PRO in April 2024 as part of its laser projector lineup. It is a 4K UHD ultra-short-throw (UST) projector: rather than sit across a room, it is positioned close to the projection surface. Hisense lists an 80–150-inch image range and a 0.22 throw ratio, and says it can project an image up to 150 inches from a few inches away. These are manufacturer specifications, not a guarantee that every room or placement will produce the same result. Hisense product page; Hisense US store listing.

How it performs for movies and everyday viewing
Room light and brightness
RTINGS describes the PX3-PRO as bright enough for a 100-inch screen in a living room with some ambient light, while noting that a dim or dark room produces the best results. That is a more useful expectation than treating the 3,000-lumen manufacturer rating as a promise of a strong image in any lighting. RTINGS also says the Epson LS800 is brighter and better suited to rooms without light control, while the PX3-PRO has better contrast and color volume in that comparison. These are the reviewer’s comparative findings, not universal rankings. RTINGS review.
Contrast, color and motion
RTINGS found that dark scenes have depth, while bright scenes look flatter. If you mainly watch dark films in a room where you can control light, that balance may suit you; if bright, high-impact scenes are your priority, consider how they look on this projector in your intended setup. RTINGS reports generally smooth motion for most content, with an exception for 25p video played from some older streaming devices or cable boxes. RTINGS review.

What Hi-Fi?’s October 2024 review judged the PX3-Pro strong for both games and movies and said its testing found it an upgrade over earlier Hisense UST models. That is the publication’s review verdict, rather than a claim that every viewer will prefer it. What Hi-Fi? review.
Gaming: strong refresh-rate claims, but no VRR
Hisense announced Designed for Xbox Limited Series certification for the PX3-PRO in July 2024. RTINGS lists support up to 240Hz at 1080p and 60Hz at 4K through the projector’s HDMI 2.1 connections. Those are resolution-specific claims: check that your console or PC, cable and chosen output mode support the resolution and refresh rate you intend to use. Hisense certification announcement; RTINGS review.
RTINGS’ comparison notes that the PX3-PRO lacks variable refresh rate (VRR), which the newer PX4-PRO adds. If VRR is important to your gaming setup, that difference matters more than the Xbox certification alone. RTINGS review.

Installation: short throw does not mean no setup
UST placement can deliver a large picture without a ceiling mount, but the projector still needs accurate positioning relative to the screen. Hisense lists an 80–150-inch image range; choose a target size and surface before settling on the unit’s position. RTINGS characterizes the PX3-PRO as large and heavy, without a carrying handle, and says its setup process is less flexible and not automated. That makes it a better candidate for a considered home installation than for casual outdoor use or frequent moving.
Hisense says image quality is superior with its separately sold ambient-light-rejecting (ALR) screen. The screen is not included as a standard part of the projector listing, so include the cost and fit of a suitable screen in your system budget rather than assuming a bare wall will deliver the same result. Hisense US store listing.
For 3D movies, Hisense says active 3D glasses are required separately. The sources cited here do not establish a specific compatible glasses model, so confirm compatibility in the manual or with Hisense support before purchasing. Hisense US store listing.

PX3-PRO versus PX2-PRO and PX4-PRO
RTINGS’ comparison identifies practical differences among these models. It lists the PX3-PRO with higher brightness and a more powerful speaker system than the PX2-PRO, plus HDR10+ support that the PX2-PRO lacks. Against the newer PX4-PRO, the cited comparison highlights VRR on the PX4-PRO, while the PX3-PRO may appeal to buyers who prefer its Google TV platform to the PX4-PRO’s VIDAA system. Check current local availability and pricing for both models before deciding.
| Model | Brightness listed by RTINGS | Speaker system listed by RTINGS | Notable point in the cited comparison |
|---|---|---|---|
| PX2-PRO | 2,400 lumens | 30W | HDR10+ not listed as supported relative to the PX3-PRO |
| PX3-PRO | 3,000 lumens | 50W | HDR10+ support; no VRR according to RTINGS’ comparison with the PX4-PRO |
| PX4-PRO | Not stated in the cited RTINGS comparison details | Not stated in the cited RTINGS comparison details | Adds VRR; uses VIDAA rather than Google TV |

Price and availability depend on when and where you buy
There is no single current price that applies across markets. What Hi-Fi?’s October 2024 review listed £2,499, US$3,499 and AU$4,499. The Hisense US store page accessed for this review showed a US$2,499.99 sale price against a US$3,499.99 regular price, and marked the model sold out. ProjectorCentral showed a US street price of US$2,498 and an MSRP of US$3,499 on its accessed page. Who should consider the PX3-PRO?
- Consider it if you want a large 4K image from a close-to-wall projector position, can control room light for movie viewing, and value Google TV and the stated gaming refresh-rate options.
- Compare alternatives first if your room is usually bright, VRR is a gaming requirement, you need an easy-to-move projector, or you want a system price that includes a purpose-made UST screen.
- Plan the installation by deciding on screen size and surface, confirming the projector’s position, and accounting for separately purchased screen or 3D accessories if you need them.
Hisense describes the product as enabling movies, TV and games on a “max 150" screen without sacrificing space at home.” That is manufacturer promotional language; actual image size and installation depend on the room and placement. Hisense product page.
