No. Hisense and Toshiba are separate corporate groups. Hisense acquired a 95% stake in Toshiba Visual Solutions Corporation (TVS), the Toshiba business that made and sold visual products, including televisions. Toshiba continued licensing its brand for TVS products, and TVS later became TVS REGZA Corporation. The deal did not transfer all of Toshiba Corporation to Hisense, nor does it prove every Toshiba-branded TV is identical to a Hisense model.
What did Hisense acquire from Toshiba?
In November 2017, Toshiba announced an agreement to transfer 95% of Toshiba Visual Solutions Corporation to Hisense Electric Co., Ltd. Toshiba said TVS would leave the Toshiba Group once the transaction was completed. The agreement concerned TVS and its visual-products business—not Toshiba Corporation as a whole. Toshiba’s November 14, 2017 announcement described the transaction and its planned brand-licensing arrangement.
Toshiba said it would continue to license its brand for TVS visual products, including home-use televisions manufactured and sold by TVS. That licensing arrangement explains how Toshiba-branded televisions could continue after the business changed ownership: the product business and the brand owner were not necessarily the same entity.

- November 14, 2017: Toshiba announced the agreement to transfer 95% of TVS to Hisense.
- February 28, 2018: Toshiba announced that the share transfer was complete and described TVS’s visual-products business as part of Hisense Group. Toshiba’s completion announcement confirms the transaction.
- March 1, 2021: Toshiba’s television support information says Toshiba Visual Solutions Corporation changed its name to TVS REGZA Corporation.
Toshiba’s 2024 annual report corporate history records the visual-solutions transfer. Toshiba’s audiovisual information page now directs people seeking visual products and services to TVS REGZA.

Does Hisense own Toshiba, or make every Toshiba TV?
No. The transaction covered a controlling stake in TVS, not Toshiba Corporation or all of its businesses. It also does not establish that every Toshiba-branded television sold worldwide is made by Hisense, uses the same components or software as a Hisense TV, or shares a particular model’s design. Those questions depend on the specific model and market; the corporate transaction alone cannot answer them.
How should you check a Toshiba TV?
For a particular television, use its exact model number and country of sale when checking manufacturer details, specifications, operating system, warranty, or support. Toshiba’s US television support page separates support according to model age and directs owners of 2021-or-later models to a different Toshiba TV support destination. Toshiba’s support routing is therefore not a universal instruction for every country or model.

- Compare the exact model’s specifications and operating system rather than assuming products match because of ownership history.
- Check the warranty and local support channel for the country where the set was purchased.
- Do not infer that a Toshiba TV is a rebadged Hisense set unless a source identifies that specific model and market.
Hisense’s company history provides its corporate background, while Toshiba’s announcements and support pages document the TVS transaction, the continued brand licensing, and subsequent support routing.
