Hindustan Zinc reported higher mined metal, refined metal and silver production for the quarter ended September 30, 2026, while Vedanta Power reported a year-over-year rise in electricity sales. The figures put the two businesses on investors’ radar ahead of Monday, October 5, according to an October 4 report; they do not show how either share actually traded that day.

What Hindustan Zinc reported for Q2 FY27

Hindustan Zinc’s operating figures, as reported by Upstox with PTI inputs on October 4, are company-reported metrics relayed by the news report, not independently audited figures in that source.

Measure Q2 FY27 Year-over-year change Reported explanation
Mined metal production 271 kilotonnes Up 5% from 258 kilotonnes Higher ore production
Refined metal production 264 kilotonnes Up 7% from 246 kilotonnes Debottlenecking at Chanderiya and Dariba, the 160 ktpa roaster at Debari, and plant availability
Saleable silver production 173 metric tonnes Up 20% Not stated in the report
Wind generation 155 million units Up 17% from 132 million units Not stated in the report

The production and generation figures describe different activities: mined and refined metal and saleable silver are production measures, while wind generation is electricity output. The figures do not, by themselves, establish revenue, profit, or the effect of commodity prices.

What Vedanta Power reported

Vedanta Power recorded Q2 power sales of 5,593 million units, up 26% year over year from 4,433 million units, according to the same Upstox report. First-half FY27 sales were 10,817 million units, up 32% year over year.

The company’s stated operating drivers included stronger plant performance and availability, a turnaround at Jharsuguda Thermal Plant, and increased sales from Meenakshi Energy. Meenakshi Energy’s Q2 sales rose 111% to 1,470 million units; its H1 sales rose 160% to 2,820 million units. These are sales volumes, not power-production figures.

Other Vedanta group figures in the updates

The October 4 coverage also included updates from Vedanta Limited, Hindustan Zinc, Vedanta Power, Vedanta Iron and Steel, Vedanta Aluminium Metal, and Vedanta Oil and Gas. Two additional figures provide group context but are not Hindustan Zinc or Vedanta Power results:

  • Vedanta Aluminium Metal reported quarterly aluminium production of 649 kilotonnes, described as a record.
  • Vedanta Oil and Gas reported average daily gross operated production of 72.2 thousand barrels of oil equivalent per day, down 19% year over year.

Upstox’s report gave Vedanta Iron and Steel saleable ore output as 5.2 million dry metric tonnes, down 13% year over year, but also cited a year-ago comparison of 1.75 million. Those numbers do not reconcile mathematically. Mint separately reported that a 49% decline in Karnataka ore production weighed on overall saleable ore, but did not confirm that comparison base. The year-ago figure should therefore not be treated as settled without checking the company’s original filing.

Why the updates put the shares in focus—and what they do not show

Investors may use operating updates to assess production, sales and plant availability before the full financial results provide a broader view. The reported increases offer a snapshot of volumes; they do not establish whether margins, costs, cash flow or earnings improved, nor do they determine a share’s value.

Mint’s October 4 article included analysts’ preferences and price-level views. Those are attributed opinions, not company-reported operating facts or verified forecasts. The updates provide no basis for asserting October 5 share-price performance: the Upstox framing was published before that trading session and supplies no realized market data.

Vedanta Power’s June 2026 demerger announcement described giving distinct businesses greater management focus and allowing investors to choose businesses with different investment characteristics as part of the rationale. It also disclosed risks including standalone operating history, coal dependence, capital intensity, debt funding, liquidity and related-party transactions. Those considerations are relevant context, but the Q2 volume update alone does not resolve them.
