Hideo Kojima says the quiet around OD is deliberate. On the October 5, 2026 season premiere of his radio show KOJI10, he said he wants to keep quiet and release the game, a break from his usual habit of putting out teaser after teaser. The silence is a communications choice, not a sign that development has stopped. There is still no release date or preorder.
What Kojima actually said about the secrecy
According to GamesRadar’s report of the October 5 broadcast, Kojima described OD as “still a mystery.” The English lines GamesRadar reproduces include:
- “I want to keep quiet and release it.”
- “I normally put out teaser after teaser. This time I don’t want to reveal much.”
- “this doesn’t mean we haven’t made the game.”
These quotes come from the secondary report. Check the linked episode and its English subtitles if you need exact wording. AUTOMATON WEST also covered the premiere. It frames the teaser gap as intentional and quotes him as saying “It’s not that it isn’t finished.” That line does not mean the game is complete, as the production details below show.

This schedule comes from Kojima’s radio comments as relayed by the press. It is not independently verified production data.
The September Xbox update
In September, Kojima appeared in Xbox’s Tokyo Game Show 2026 broadcast and gave updates on OD, as Xbox Wire’s September 17 recap confirms. GamesRadar reports that he said performance capture and ADR, paused during the SAG strike, had resumed this year and that production was on schedule. He called the game “a completely new kind of game that tests the thresholds of fear.” He also said it is taking shape through experimentation and iteration. Xbox Wire’s recap itself gives the schedule and progress language no further detail and no release window.

What is still unknown
- Release date: none announced. “On schedule” is Kojima’s description and does not say when the game will ship.
- Preorders: none announced in the cited sources.
- Gameplay: no full explanation of the mechanics has been given beyond the fear-focused framing above.
With filming running to the end of 2026 and ADR into 2027, a near-term launch looks unlikely. That is an inference from the reported schedule, not something Kojima has said.
