Heritage Auctions was reported to have offered six unused Kenner Star Wars card backs tied to the abandoned “Revenge of the Jedi” title, without the action figures. The reported group includes five character designs and one blank card back, with grades of AFA 80 or AFA 85. The lot’s final price, auction date, lot number and current availability have not been verified.
What was reportedly in the Heritage offering?
ComicBook.com reported on October 3, 2026, that Heritage Auctions had listed six unused Kenner Star Wars card backs. Five were identified as cards for IG-88, Zuckuss, Han Solo in Hoth battle gear, FX-7 and Hammerhead; the sixth was blank. The article reported two cards graded AFA 80 and four graded AFA 85. These details come from the article’s account, not an independently confirmed examination of the auction lot. ComicBook.com’s report
The same report says the card backs carry a Nien Nunb mail-in promotion sticker requiring five proofs of purchase. It describes the backs as unused, but accessible Heritage material did not independently establish their provenance. The featured lot’s official lot number, closing date, sale result and present availability remain unresolved.
Why does “Revenge of the Jedi” matter?
The early title is the reason these pieces stand apart from ordinary vintage packaging. As ComicBook.com explains, Lucasfilm changed the third film’s title from “Revenge of the Jedi” to “Return of the Jedi,” and Kenner replaced packaging that used the earlier wording. A card back is packaging rather than a complete action figure, but that does not make it interchangeable with every other Star Wars collectible. The design, printed title, promotion, condition and whether it is an unused card back or a proof card all matter when identifying an item.
What does a related Heritage sale tell collectors?
