The Herington High & Soft Low Allergy Gusseted Pillow is a polyester pillow filled with ExcelFibre, wrapped in a piped, gusseted cotton cover, and sold with a Sensitive Choice approval and a three-year warranty. CHOICE lists it as Australian-origin and describes its firmness as soft to medium. What public sources do not provide is independent performance data: CHOICE’s expert rating, test results, pros and cons are member-only, so this review reports the listed specifications, care requirements and claims, and separates them from anything that has been tested.
Which model this review covers
Several Herington pillows share similar names, and the listings do not all use the same title. The CHOICE page is titled “Herington High & Soft Low Allergy Gusseted Pillow” and is the reference for the specifications below. A Straylian listing for the Herington High & Soft Gusseted Pillow describes the same High & Soft construction but drops “Low Allergy” from its title, and a Harvey Norman listing uses yet another name. Before buying, compare the product label with the listing and confirm the words “High & Soft” appear on it.
The High & Soft model is a different product from the Low & Soft model. Sensitive Choice’s feature on Herington’s asthma- and allergy-friendly bedroom products describes a Low & Soft pillow with 500 g of ExcelFibre. That figure belongs to the Low & Soft pillow only and should not be applied to the High & Soft.

Fill and firmness
The pillow is filled with ExcelFibre, a polyester fibre that the Straylian listing describes in promotional terms: “Filled with 700grams of low allergy ExcelFibre® – specially enhanced polyester fibres promoting good health and restful sleep.” That wording is the manufacturer’s marketing language. It describes what the fibre is intended to do; it is not clinical evidence that the pillow improves health or sleep.
Firmness is described as soft to medium. CHOICE lists this as a claim about the model, and the sources reviewed do not include a published firmness measurement or a rating from a firmness test. If you sleep on your side or prefer a firmer surface, the claim is the only firmness information available here, and it is worth testing in a store or checking the return conditions before you buy.

What the low-allergy and Sensitive Choice claims mean
The title and listings use “low allergy” and “Sensitive Choice approval.” Sensitive Choice is linked to the National Asthma Council Australia, and its news page presents Herington products as suitable for people with asthma and allergies. The sources reviewed do not set out the criteria Sensitive Choice uses to grant its approval, nor do they include allergy test results for this pillow.
In practice, the endorsement tells you the product carries a third-party approval from that program. It does not tell you how much the pillow reduces dust mite or allergen exposure, how it compares with other pillows, or whether it will suit a particular person’s sensitivity. For those questions, check the criteria on the Sensitive Choice site and consider speaking to a clinician if you have a diagnosed allergy or asthma.
Rank #3
- Natural Sleep: Our feather down pillow's cover is made from 100% premium organic cotton, grown without exposure to heavy metals or other pollutants. The black cotton seed shells naturally present on the cover demonstrate its natural origin. Important Note: Our fabric is made of 100% organic cotton. Due to regulatory requirements for product labeling, we are only permitted to mark it as "100% Cotton" on the label. This is simply another way of referring to the exact same fabric. Please rest assured that there is no cause for concern.
- More Support with Gusseted Design: This firm pillow is suitable for side and back sleepers, the 2-inch gusseted edge provides enhanced support in the space between your neck and the mattress, ensuring proper alignment of your head, neck, and spine.
- Premium Feather Fill: Our goose feathers deliver cloud-like softness while maintaining impressive support, naturally adapting to your head and neck contours without collapsing, delivering a fluffier, longer-lasting loft.
- Dual Feather-proof Layer: To prevent down leakage, a double-layer design is employed to make sure feathers remain contained and locked. No feather leakage, no bedside cleanup, just pure uninterrupted comfort.
- Hypo-allergenic and Odorless: The bed pillow's goose feather, sourced ethically and sustainably, is washed and disinfected throroughly to eliminate allergens and keep clean.
Washing and drying
CHOICE and the Straylian listing give compatible but not identical care instructions. Follow the label on your own pillow first. If the label is missing, use this sequence:
- Check the care label on the pillow. If it differs from the steps below, follow the label.
- Wash by warm hand wash or gentle machine wash. CHOICE gives a limit of up to 60°C.
- Rinse thoroughly until no soap remains.
- Spin dry, as the Straylian listing recommends.
- Reshape the pillow by hand so the fill spreads evenly.
- Lay flat to dry. Do not tumble dry or dry clean, according to the Straylian listing.
Because the fill is polyester, a thorough dry matters: a pillow that stays damp inside can feel lumpy and may develop odour. Allow enough time for the centre to dry before returning it to its case.

Warranty
Both the CHOICE page and the Straylian listing give a three-year warranty. The sources do not describe what the warranty covers, how a claim is made, or whether it depends on proof of purchase or on washing according to the care label. Keep the receipt and any warranty card, and check the retailer’s warranty terms before you rely on the cover.

CHOICE publishes an expert rating, test results, pros and cons for many products, but on the page for this model those items are member-only. No score, ranking or test figure for the Herington High & Soft is available in public sources reviewed here, and this article does not report one. Treat any claim of a score or comparison win that does not cite a named, accessible test result with caution.

Checklist before you buy
- Confirm that the label reads “High & Soft,” not “Low & Soft,” and check the fill amount on the label or listing.
- Compare the dimensions with your bed and pillowcase. The CHOICE figure is 16 × 60 × 36 cm.
- Check stock and the exact variant with the retailer, since the Low Allergy name appears on some listings but not others.
- Read the warranty terms and keep proof of purchase.
- Follow the label’s washing instructions from the first wash.
Listings and endorsements can change. Confirm current details on the CHOICE page and with the seller before purchase.
A pillow protector or pillowcase may help keep the pillow clean, but none of the sources identifies a specific compatible item or says one is needed.
