HealthLeap says it has raised more than $38 million in total to build AI software that screens adult hospital patients for nutrition risk. The figure comes from the company’s careers page; it does not identify a newly closed $38 million round, its date, terms, or investors. The company’s current product reviews inpatient records daily and adds a risk score to the hospital’s electronic health record (EHR) so clinicians can decide who needs further assessment.
Does the $38 million refer to a new funding round?
Not on the available evidence. HealthLeap’s careers page says the company has raised “more than $38 million,” but gives no date, round name, terms, or participants. Its press archive lists a $1.1 million pre-seed round reported in January 2022, along with company releases through June 2026; it does not announce a current $38 million round. What does HealthLeap’s AI do?
HealthLeap says it reviews adult inpatients’ charts each day, estimates nutrition risk, and writes a score into the EHR flowsheet each morning. Dietitians and care teams can use the prioritized list to decide which patients to assess. The software is intended to surface people for clinical review—not to diagnose or treat them autonomously—and the company positions it ahead of clinical documentation and coding workflows. What evidence does HealthLeap cite for malnutrition screening?
HealthLeap’s homepage summarizes a peer-reviewed study by Bernstein and colleagues in Applied Clinical Informatics. The company says the study covered more than 166,000 admissions over 3.75 years and found 88% higher sensitivity than nurse-administered malnutrition screening, identification four days earlier, and AUROC values of 0.95 during the stay and 0.92 on day one. These are figures reported by HealthLeap from the study; they do not, by themselves, establish that the same performance will hold at every hospital. HealthLeap also lists other conditions its platform may address: delirium or toxic metabolic encephalopathy, aspiration pneumonia, heart-failure readmissions, and pressure injuries. The company page does not establish that each condition has the same level of peer-reviewed validation or deployment as malnutrition screening.
Where is the platform deployed, and what outcomes are known?
HealthLeap names Cedars-Sinai, Emory, Houston Methodist, Intermountain, Northeast Georgia, Penn Medicine, and UMass Memorial as partners. It says the platform was developed with leaders from Cedars-Sinai, Johns Hopkins, and Stanford, and in partnership with the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. Houston Methodist
In a June 25, 2026 announcement, HealthLeap said its platform had launched across the Houston Methodist system. The release said the parties would evaluate clinical, operational, and financial measures, including length of stay and consistency in identifying and documenting patients who may benefit from nutrition-related care. Penn Medicine and Cedars-Sinai figures
HealthLeap’s homepage reports an annualized $23.8 million financial impact and 8,632 annualized bed-days saved at Penn Medicine. For Cedars-Sinai, it reports $11 million in annual impact and 39% more diagnoses at the same staffing. These are company-reported, site-specific figures, not independently established results for all customers. The homepage also says each 1,000 additional reimbursable malnutrition cases captured represents roughly $5 million in incremental reimbursement; that is a company estimate, not a guaranteed return. The funding figure indicates the scale of capital HealthLeap says it has raised, but the company page does not reveal a new round’s backers or terms. The product has a defined clinical workflow and a company-reported summary of peer-reviewed screening evidence, while customer outcome claims need to be read in their specific site context. For a hospital evaluating the software, relevant questions include the validation population and comparator, performance at that hospital, EHR integration and staff workload, human review and governance, which conditions are actually deployed, and how clinical or financial outcomes are measured.
