Renato Moicano said he might call out Ilia Topuria if he beat Tom Nolan at UFC Vegas 123, pitching himself as a possible comeback opponent. The matchup was not announced or booked: Moicano said he did not know whether the UFC would make it happen.
What did Moicano say about fighting Topuria?
In an interview published October 2, 2026, by MMA Fighting, Moicano said he had several names in mind for a post-fight callout if he won against Tom Nolan in the main event of UFC Vegas 123. Topuria was one possibility.
Moicano framed the idea around Topuria returning after a reported knockout loss to Justin Gaethje. “He needs an easy fight, right?” he said, suggesting a confidence-building matchup might help. That was Moicano’s opinion, not verified information about Topuria’s state of mind.

Did Moicano call Topuria an easy opponent?
No. Moicano’s “easy fight” remark referred to what he thought Topuria might need, not to how Moicano viewed the matchup. In the same interview, he called a fight with Topuria “a fucking tough fight.” He also said: “I think that fight would make sense. I don’t know if the UFC will make it happen.”

Is Moicano vs. Topuria official?
No booking or UFC approval was reported in the October 2 interview. MMA Fighting said Topuria had yet to book a UFC fight at that time, and Moicano himself said he did not know whether the promotion would make the matchup. The interview also mentioned Paddy Pimblett as a possible opponent for Topuria, but confirmed neither option.
What was the context for the callout?
Moicano was preparing to face Nolan at UFC Vegas 123 after being pulled from UFC 331. MMA Fighting reported that Moicano’s original opponent, Brian Ortega, withdrew because of a cut. The Topuria suggestion was conditional on Moicano winning his fight with Nolan.
