Treat the hike as unconfirmed unless a subsequent RBI announcement establishes the outcome. Mint’s October 7 pre-decision coverage and the RBI website are useful starting points, but the latter page does not settle the decision.
What does HDFC Bank’s reported 16% loan growth mean?
DSIJ Intelligence reported on October 5 that HDFC Bank’s gross advances rose 16.3% year over year to about ₹32.20 lakh crore in the September quarter. This is a secondary-reported figure for gross advances, not an official company confirmation or a forecast. The bank’s own June-quarter results provide an earlier official comparison, not verification of September numbers.

The same DSIJ report put September-quarter deposits at about ₹33.28 lakh crore, up 18.8% year over year. It reported time deposits up 22.8% and CASA deposits up 10.8%. Faster deposit growth than advances can support funding, but the mix may matter: stronger time-deposit growth could raise funding costs relative to a greater contribution from current and savings accounts. That is a possible margin pressure, not a confirmed realized impact.

For the official baseline, HDFC Bank’s quarter ended June 30, 2026, reported gross advances of ₹30,608 billion, up 15.4% year over year, and average advances under management growth of 10.8%. How could a repo-rate hike affect HDFC Bank shares?
A rate increase does not translate mechanically into a gain or loss for a bank’s shares. The effect depends on how quickly and fully lending yields reprice compared with deposit costs, how much deposit competition intensifies, and how those changes affect net interest margin and profit. Loan and deposit growth, asset quality, and capital also shape investors’ assessment.

HDFC Bank’s June-quarter results reported net interest income of ₹335.3 billion, up 6.7% year over year. Net interest margin was 3.26% on total assets and 3.40% on interest-earning assets. These figures describe the quarter ended June 30; they do not show the impact of an October policy decision or establish how the bank’s September-quarter assets and liabilities repriced.
Accordingly, the reported loan growth is a useful indicator of lending momentum, but by itself it cannot determine whether a rate hike is positive for HDFC Bank shares. The deposit mix and any change in funding costs matter alongside growth, margins, asset quality, and capital.
