In its 2020 results announcement, Habib Bank Limited (HBL) said it was then the only bank in Pakistan enabling customers to avail a credit card and personal loan through its app. That supports a narrower, attributed version of the “first” claim: HBL described an app-based credit-card application offering at the time, but the announcement does not independently verify which bank was first. It also does not establish whether customers can apply through HBL Mobile today.
What HBL announced in 2020
HBL’s announcement, HBL’s 2020 Profit Doubles to Rs. 31 Billion with a Focus on Digitalization and Financial Inclusion, said customers could avail a credit card and personal loan through the bank’s app. HBL also described itself at that time as the only bank in Pakistan enabling both services through its app.
That is evidence of HBL’s own description of its digital offering, not an independently verified industry-wide chronology. The announcement does not establish whether another Pakistani bank had offered credit-card applications through an app earlier.
The loan figure was not credit-card-specific
HBL reported that Rs. 3.2 billion worth of loans were disbursed using its digital channels in 2020. The figure covers loans as reported by the bank; the announcement does not break it out to show how much, if any, was credit-card lending.

Can you apply through HBL Mobile now?
The 2020 announcement does not confirm current application availability. It also does not give application instructions, eligibility criteria, approval standards, fees, or card terms. Confirm those details directly with HBL before starting an application.
Google Wallet is a separate feature
HBL’s news archive records a Google Wallet announcement dated 19 February 2025. It says eligible HBL Visa and Mastercard credit and debit cards could be added to Google Wallet on Android and Wear OS. That announcement concerns adding an existing eligible card to a digital wallet; it is separate from applying for a new card through HBL Mobile. See HBL News and Media.
